I didn't buy parts.......I bought WHOLE cars. They "were" dirt cheap when I came into this platform and all of my parts cars came to me via a phone call or message to see if I WANTED them and of course I bought them ($300-$700 for complete cars). I still have one on the hook that I would like to get out of a treeline, a 1992 White Talon, 6/4 Auto car with a Red interior. I hope it doesn't rust into the ground before the man finally gets the time to cut a few trees so I can get it out.

So saying you don't love the cars wasn't the right way to state that and I shouldn't have started out with saying you don't love your car. I'm sure you do. And you do make a good point about sticking with it even though you don't have any back-up parts and could be down indefinitely.

But my main point was just that most of us who have a lot of extra parts did not get them by screwing the rest of the community out of them. 90% of our part came from cars that were headed to the crusher in short order and we pulled the parts from the vehicle shortly before it was crushed. It is really irritating that people who don't have spare parts are upset at the people out there that saved parts and have them to keep our cars going. If we hadn't gotten the parts we did most of them would have been crushed and melted down. We have not deprived the community of any parts and we aren't obligated to sell what we have.
And I don't mean to infer that those with lots of parts got so by screwing the community. There are a few select people that are willing, just due to the volume they have, share with the community whilst being fairly compensated. What absolutely pisses me off are those are trying to take advantage of the increasing desperation of those that love this platform to death. Basically, they're acting like scalpers. We're also apparently losing our local Canadian vendor because they've been in the game so long and it's a small shop. I'm not harping on donnie, but a large part of it is jealously and "c'mon, spread the wealth" .. his post just seemed elitist and "f*ck you i got mine", even though I know he's a stand up guy .. at least, I'm pretty sure ;)

I've been in love with this car for 20 years, much longer than I've had it. Now that I've finally got my chance, and I had to travel a long distance just to get it, everything is drying up at a light speed pace. We never had a huge market in Canada for any of them, much less mid/late 90s versions, and we can only watch them die now. It's frustrating and disheartening. Your post just inflamed that feeling and made me feel that because I live in a place that was pretty dry to begin with, with only one in a wrecker a year or less, and didn't have my 2G since new and was able to amass parts at a breakneck and wreckless speed, I didn't love my car or this platform. You got lots of parts because they were plentiful in your area, so you deserve the car and we don't? That didn't sit well.

If that's the sentiment of the community, well, then it is the architect of its own fate.

There's a HIGHLY gray area there. A lot of people who actually HAVE those parts that you're saying are "scalpers" didn't come by them without the investment, and at no cost. I'm sure there are SOME people that have taken advantage of the situation, but unless they did it in some nefarious fashion, a lot of other people *COULD* have, but chose not to. That's not being a scalper--that's taking a risky step of investing in something and having it pay off. *THEY* took the time and money to obtain the parts, *THEY* paid the costs of the storage over the years, *THEY* sat that money into those parts as opposed to spending it on other investments/pleasures in life, so why is it "bad" to profit from it? Hell, you can park money in some low-risk index fund and average an 11% average return with *no* work.

I can't tell you how many thousands of square feet of storage I've paid for over the years to store parts, have stored crap that have ended up in dumpsters. Not only that, but then have thrown those parts away only to have some of them become worth VERY good money a couple of years later.

I guess I'm missing who these "scalpers" actually are, and what they did to become considered such.

Trust me, I'm not offended by it, I often sell discontinued parts for much less than I could have if I were taking advantage of the actual market, but I've never understood this mindset.

ugh, it just sucks, man.
Turned 41 very recently, it's been.. rough.
😘 all around
I've got 8 years on you in 3 more days.

Trust me when I say it only gets worse---and at an increasingly rapid pace. :-/

Which is probably why I still have them. 🙃

Send me an email to [email protected] if you want one.

I need to finally get to going through Trans parts numbers/availability and put them on the site. I just finished spending hours going through t-case parts and adding/removing/changing everything so that it's up to date---which will last until 10...9...8... with the way Mitsu operates. :-/

I’m not trying to get into any back and forth with ANYONE but I see where the elitist vibe came from.

I have spares. Will they last the rest of my life? Man I sure hope so, I love my car and always will. In 10 more years I see pricing for drivetrain parts being higher than what I paid for my entire car. Unfortunately I will pay for what I need from whoever has it if it’s the difference of my car being broken or running.

Seeing conversations like this make me sad for what the future holds for these cars and the community in general.

If you speak up---the back and forth happens.

That said, I've been through this same situation (or at least knew how it ended up) with a plethora of cars, much older than ours. There's nothing "new" here. The cycle repeats itself, and has done so MANY MANY times before.

I own cars that go back through the 1940s. There are people who own NOS parts for those cars as well, and they make damn good money off of the fact that they bought and stored them for over half of a century. The one I own from the 50's---holy crap! Even in the early 1990s, a BARE steering wheel (no horn, etc.) would run you 1/10th of what most of the cars were worth in the 80's. If you want a core head for it, be prepared to shell out $5K+ --if you can find one, and then the serial numbers won't match anyway...

Point is---the car market has been like this (rinse and repeat) before you, I, and most everyone else on this board has been breathing air. You can fight it and feel "sad" or you can just accept how it works, and if it's worthwhile to you (emotionally/financially) learn it and prepare for it.

Don't get me wrong, *EACH* car you talk about in this regard will be slightly different. It's like playing the stock market, but you can't Monday Morning Quarterback it like someone who's mad that they didn't buy Apple stock in the 90's, Bitcoin in 2015, etc.

Blame it on Mitsu for being who they are. Blame it on cheap owners who self-rightouesly refused to spend "X" on a custom exhaust from one of the many U.S. businesses who catered to these cars because they could buy "a cheap SS catback" from Megan racing and we're willing to "spend 1/2 of the price they paid for their $1500 DSM" back in 2008. Blame it on the knock-off companies who tried to build a part 88% as good as an OEM one when they saw people buying them en masse, killed the OEM Market for Mitsu, then when sales started falling off, they discontinued those parts as well. Blame it on....the list goes on and on, but it's "blame" game instead of "here's where we are in the game--accept it or move along".

Does it suck for those of us who still love these old bricks? Yes.

But you can't place the blame on a handful of people who have a part someone needs/wants but aren't willing to pay for. It's historically/logically just not how it works.

I’m not blaming/mad at anyone for anything they have done or how many parts they have. I’m a parts hoarder myself. I understand sometimes it’s hard to tell someones tone through text though. Just felt like someone was being rode for having the worry of keeping their car own the road.

I can say I do worry about parts being available. Just seems some platforms have more support than others.

I didn’t get into to dsm’s because they were expensive LOL. I just loved the 90’s rice burners and knew I could make some decent power for only a little bit of money.

Once again I’m not into the whole back and forth gotcha thing. I don’t have Facebook or any other social media platforms. This is the only place I communicate with people on the internet.

At the end of the day we are all here because we all have one thing in common. We love our dsm’s. As I said I just wanted to input my opinion and that I could see why he felt that way is all.

Good luck to anyone and everyone with their parts sourcing. I’m going to unwatch this thread though.

Yeah, I get it. It just feels... personal, you know? We all have blood, sweat, and tears in these. The callous, casual brutality of what's going on is just gut wrenching. I blame myself, for getting so deep into something as stupidly simple as a car.
But it's more than that, it's a community. I can't believe it but I've been here for 15 years.. (yes, I know many others are much longer, including DSSA)

I know old parts can't be produced forever but it just doesn't feel like it's reach its time yet. Unfortunately, Mitsu has its head firmly entrenched up its own ass and, with any hope, they'll go completely bankrupt after they cut off production of the last parts. Serves them right. Boo.

Unfortunately, Mitsu has its head firmly entrenched up its own ass
The other reasons I stated above still stand, but yes, this is the BIGGEST reason.

I've said time and time again, that (at least financially) I should have gotten into a different brand of car.

You've summed it up

I really don't understand the global supply system of these. The MD726235 showed as discontinued worldwide from all suppliers for a good amount of time - both domestic and abroad. It ran out on Amayama, saying "production stopped, no longer available". Koyo says it's no longer in production, as per the email above from JTEKT. I just checked and now Amayama is showing 50 MD726235 available in UAE. And for MD732314, they also showed as "production stopped, no longer available" on Amayama and locally, but PartSouq said they were available, so I placed an order for one. The day after I ordered on PartSouq, 8 showed up as available in the UAE on Amayama, then 7 as soon as my order was processed through PartSouq. I genuinely don't know how the UAE warehouse is getting access to these, but it's good to see.

I blame myself for buying too much house at an early age and having to wait 23 years to finally be able to start blowing money on parts for a car I’ve been dreaming about driving again just as long. I just hope I get this thing built and enjoy some years with her again before the world runs out of parts for me to finish it. Money will be no object to get her on the road at this point, I will gladly pay someone’s investment return to get her there if need be.

The people with the hoards are the ones who really love these cars. When these cars were popping up all over in wrecking yards 10 years ago and being parted out dirt cheap we were the ones who went out and spent our hard earned money and time to pull and get these parts knowing we would probably need them in the future. The parts we have today we got because nobody else thought they were worth the time money or effort to get back then. So if there's only 5 of us left in the world that can run them then we deserve to be the ones running them. If it been left up to the people who didn't "hoard" DSM parts there would be even less parts since most of them would have been turned into refrigerator and chandeliers.
This.
I have stacks of 6 bolt cranks I pulled myself out of junk cars, for $35 each. When transmissions were $85 at pull a part I pulled as many as I could find.

I plan on having a Dsm in my collection for the rest of my life. I have literally lived and breathed these things for decades. Not to mention I’ve sold over 100 engines I’ve built and a couple records on the wall.

But hey, anyone that has more, or different than you is bad. That’s the current state of affairs.

Right donnie? I literally just bought 10 awd corpses for less than $100/ea a couple weeks ago.

It's so nice to be told that since I never had the abundance of parts available to be over the past 15 years due to the comparable rarity of the vehicle in my country, and even less availability in my geographic area (there have been less than 10 that hit the wreckers in this time, some of those 420As, and only one or two AWDs of varying years), I don't deserve to have my car. I would hardly believe that's the elitist view of the community as a whole but if that really is where it's going, what a way to end. I applaud those that have the luck to be where they are, I'm not surprised based on where the cars came from. But to say that because they were so easily obtainable and advantage was taken, that anyone else doesn't love the platform as much is just assinine.
I've done a cylinder head pull in the dead of winter at -35C with a windchill pushing -40 in a yard. By that very act I say I love them more.

I don't think you get it... I've drove hours outside of my geographic area, I've spent my last dollar, I've chose buying parts over other needs. It's simple, the parts are out there still. If you don't have them it's cause you don't want them bad enough.

Do you know how many bad ass built engines and trans's have been sold out of hoards like mine and donnies?

No, I guess I don't get it. Spending $2500 on airfare, hotel, and a rental just to see the car I purchased, and then another $1200 to get it home isn't "loving the platform" as much.
Being well in the five figures on just maintenance to keep them running and an upgrade here or there whilst providing representation in this dry bed of activity where I live, also not sufficient love. I'm just a casual observer who stumbled in.

I understand the saving parts from their doom and, better yet, willingness to pass them on. That's fantastic. What's insulting is to say because we aren't down in Iowa, Illinois, or every other state every weekend for thousands of miles of travel per month, that we don't deserve the car or love the platform. That would be like saying everyone who didn't spend the dime on a billet block doesn't love the platform as much as someone who did.

Perhaps, regardless of our individual states of personal inventory or self-aggrandizing, we all love the platform a lot because we choose to spend time here and at gatherings and lots of money on them how we can, and we all deserve to have them. Otherwise, it's going to be two people at some point with all the parts and nobody else will even know or give a damn about what a DSM is.

What would be truly awesome is a global shipping program through tuners like eBay. Nobody is willing to ship up here, so we are stuck with quite often border runs

You can start by looking up Dsm, 4g63, eclipse gsx, talon tsi, w5m33, and various other tags on eBay every day and reading every search result for decades. Then you can drive 1,500 miles to meet with somebody on Craigslist only to find out the parts are junk.

Nobody deserves anything. But hard work, sacrifice, and time increase the odds of getting what you want.

The amount of free brackets, rockers, lifters, synchro springs, I’ve just “tossed in” over the years…..

Seems like the other thread with all the equivalent bearings info was deleted from vendor announcements. Need to add that important info here. Should be a sticky.

Weird, all of JNZ's threads are gone in the vendor section.

Anyway, here's the problematic input/intermediate bearings these days:

MD726235 - gone from Mitsubishi, no longer made by original manufacturer KOYO. Replacement made by TIMKEN.
MD726236 - gone from Mitsubishi, possibly no longer made by original manufacturer KOYO. Replacement still available from KOYO dealers - HI-CAP303/28RLFT - if a trans guru can confirm it's equivalent to 303/28-N.
MD736638 - appears to be gone from Mitsubishi
MD732314 - seems to be okay for now
MD737652 - needle bearing (2 required) - on 1+ month backorder from Mitsubishi

MD700207 = NSK B25-139C3 (This is most popular bearing which dies first in Mitsu Galant M/T FWD.
MD724118 = NSK R30-10
MD718028 = KOYO 30306J-N = SKF 30306J2/Q
MD710663 = KOYO 57428-N
MD718030 = NTN TMB306B = 6306 ETN9
MB393957 = NSK HR30207J = 30207J2/Q
MD707506 = NSK HR30206J = 30206J2/Q
MD723327 = KOYO ST2857-N
MD726235 = KOYO 26118YRI-N & 26283-N (discontinued by KOYO) and TIMKEN X30306M
MD719318 = KOYO C00778
MD729948 = KOYO DG256318
MD727861 = NSK R31Z-11g
MD747740 = NSK 30TMOS = 6306 N
MD717670 = NSK TM206U1 = 6206 ETN9
MD703856 = NSK 62/28 = 62/28
MD717511 = NSK LM6704B = LM67048/010/Q
MD724117 = NSK R28-9A (supersedes to MD736638)
MD736638 = NSK TF R28-9Ag

MD720623 = KOYO LM300849
MD718322 = KOYO 32009JR = 32009XQ
MD732314 = NSK TF R25-19g (More strong = HR32205)
MD727860 = NSK R41-1g
MD726236 = KOYO 303/28-N (possibly discontinued by KOYO may be readily available under KOYO HI-CAP303/28-RLFT - KOYO 303/28-C appears to be different)
MD706566 = KOYO 6207R
MD737652 = ???

So my solution for now is:
MD726235 - TIMKEN X30306M - a few options online
MD726236 - KOYO 303/28RLFT - https://www.ebay.com/itm/11583193422 for Americans, https://www.ebay.com/itm/274017345304 for everyone else
MD736638 - NSK R28-9A/9Ag - a few options online
MD732314 - Mitsubishi
MD737652 - Mitsubishi and enjoy the wait

troppo loungo, I think you mentioned you bought bearings from eBay (I suspect from automotomarine_store) - they list a lot of stuff that is totally obsolete and they can't deliver, so beware.

Trust me when I say this, you’re never going to get anywhere arguing with that particular fence post. It’s like playing chess with a pigeon. It’s just going to knock over all the pieces, s**t all over the board and you, then strut around like it won.

I agree with you btw, just saying. It’s like beating your head against a wall.

Yeah, this isn't just a simple market anymore. If you need a part, you've got to be committed to buying overseas or from very obscure places. I've bought transmission parts used from Japan, Latvia, Germany, France, UK, and lots of other parts from Australia, New Zealand, Malaysia, the list goes on. I've bought hyper-rare Dodge Neon parts in Germany (!!), and I was seriously considering buying an unobtanium Neon emblem from black hole Venezuela before I dug up an alternate part number and found one buried in a dealer warehouse in the US, which had clearly been forgotten. Back in 2008, I found a brand new Evo 1 bumper in Atlanta by picking up the phone and calling the Mitsubishi warehouse. I found a 420A racing cylinder head in a U-pick junkyard in the middle of winter than was better than I ever could've found online or from a dealer. This is not an easy game anymore, it's hard-ass work. Searching for parts requires part numbers, constant scouring of Google, eBay, local classifieds, and other foreign equivalents. If you don't have ASA/CAPS, a lot of time to waste, and very sharp Google skills (or an extremely deep wallet), someone's going to beat you to what you need.

Oh if I had a crystal ball and could go back 20 years. Let’s just say my priorities would be positioned differently. I’ve spent a LOT of money over the years on stuff I could always buy, thinking I had plenty of time to get what I needed for this girl. Stoopid me! :banghead:
Hopefully SOME people have sympathy in the future.
And not everyone had the ability to scavenge parts over the years gentlemen (and ladies). Everyone’s life story is different.
