I'll add my opinion as well.... now that I've gotten back in the game, I feel I'm from the time frame of forums being "hot" and fb/social media just starting to kick up. When you needed advice you'd google it with "dsmtuners" attached and find the treasure trove of responses and it was/still is amazing. But now that the next generation has gotten a hold of these cars, they no long seek knowledge but rather answers (instant ones too), not just fixes but rather anything for an answer and that is where I struggle with social media garbage. They get 15 thousand possible resolutions with maybe a 5% chance of a correct resolution. There is also the negative keyboard warriors that love to toss negative shade on those that instead of throwing out these possible resolutions, we toss out the, "have you checked DSMTuners?" There is no longer a drive or desire to understand and gain knowledge and experience in life not just DSM's. I've met plenty of youngin's (under 30 yrs old) that are just clueless on much of their cars layout. hell even joked about "crank walk" and I got the blank cross eyed stare... not sure he even knew what a crank was at that point let alone a valve cover. So, in closing, not only is it "killing or hurting" the forums, its also ruining the "scene" as these same kids are the ones doing "take overs" numb to the consequences, and numb to fixing their car.

PS: I will admit, I wish I was able to make it possible to visit the forum more than I do, but no matter what I still pull it up once a day mainly for the classifieds. ha ha But I also know, I have A LOT to learn still with these cars.

100% truth, man. People on social media start shit just for starting shit's sake. They make trolling, a-hole comments just to try to be "edgy" and get "likes", and will NEVER admit when they're wrong.

I don't have time for it honestly. Even the marketplace/parts scene is garbage. I find 99.9% of the things I buy DSM wise, are almost all either 1) on the forums 2) from friends I made on the forums. I buy stuff off of FB parts groups legitimately one out of ten purchases, because it's so toxic. And NO ONE can read. Every SINGLE time I put up an ad and give instructions like "send me a PM with pictures of the actual item you have for sale WITH price including shipping" I get a million messages of "LOL I got one bruh" with no pictures, no details, no price, nothing.

Don't even get me started on the axe-wounds who go around and high-ball people selling stuff at a fair price, just to screw everyone else. "Oh bro you selling a transmission for $500? That's way too low, bump it up to $1500 firm".

I will buy a cake and legit have a party the day social media dies. And it will.
 
It’s disheartening to see all of the same questions about some of the same exact topics that have been discussed so many times here get asked over in the DSM groups on FB on a daily basis. It’s as if an organized, searchable resource doesn’t already exist. Like there’s an alternate reality where Google is inaccessible. Or as if “newer” responses will be “better” somehow. It’s amazing how much disregard there is for readily available existing information from DSMers who have been around a while. 😔 🤪

I almost started typing up a reply with a link to a relevant thread but then decided not to waste my time. Not sure why so many others waste theirs. It’s just disheartening.

The continuous reinvention of the wheel on Groundhog Day will start again at midnight on FecesBook. If you experience deja vu you might just be in the matrix.

You always see comments on FB that mention that they browsed the forum but are looking for "current" info, as the threads they found were 10 years old. In many cases, the "old" info they found in the forum is still relevant. And chances are, there are newer posts that they didn't come across in their first search. Regardless, it just highlights a common misconception that asking a question on FB will result in "better" information than locating threads where the topic was already discussed, in-depth, because fresh new answers are automatically "better".

An unfortunate trend you see daily is DSMers searching for the info and then asking follow up questions on FB... God forbid they ---- gasp ---- post the follow-up question here in the forum, maybe even in a relevant thread where the ensuing answers can also get cataloged, so that others can benefit from that interaction later. 🤯 What a concept!

What people fail to understand or give a shit about, is that posting questions on FB creates a situation where newer (or related) information doesn't get cataloged. All those questions that get answered with useful information fall into the abyss and nobody else will be able to benefit from the information exchange like they do here. I know, I'm reiterating the same points again and again. It's just sad to watch people do it, not caring about the consequences of their actions. It's like the people who do take-overs - they don't really care about the damage they do to car culture. So long as they're having fun, that's all that matters. What's really sad is I see more and more long-time forum members doing it too.

And unfortunately, there are plenty of knowledgeable old school DSMers who choose to spend all their time over there. Tossing their knowledge and their contributions to the DSM community into the abyss. On a social media platform that gives zero f***s about the DSM community. 😞
 
Super good reason for me to say I have never ONCE stepped a foot into FB. Didn't need it when I have such A SUPER RESOURCE CALLED DSMTUNERS.COM!
🖕Excuse me, but that is what I think about sharing ANY KIND OF INFORMATION over there. Cars, personal stuff, bullshit, hearsay, etc.
Boy am I glad I've never experienced it and I am still digging up old cars (surprises await). :cool:

Think of it this way - we have some really great fabricators and vendors who build and sell quality parts for the DSM platform, some of which are supporting vendors and freelancers here on this site, as they purposely choose to support our ongoing efforts in the DSM world. Yet if the majority of DSM owners continue to buy the Chinese knock-off parts, or as my daughters call them, dupes, then the skilled fabricators and vendors who build and sell those quality parts will eventually disappear from this market. You're supporting garbage when you spend your money on garbage, or buy only from the cheapest source you can find.

Buying the cheap knock-off parts on eBay and Amazon instead of the stuff from @EC17PSE, @MorrisonFab, @99gst_racer and all the vendors listed at the bottom of this site who support our community means you're not only NOT supporting these awesome vendors and skilled fabricators, you're actively hurting their efforts and driving them away from our community with your spending habits. And eventually that will work against all DSMers when the only new parts left to buy for these cars are the shitty knock-off parts. And eventually, those knock-off copycat fly-by-night operations won't have anyone to copy.

It's the same basic scenario with people using FB to discuss DSM topics, instead of using a dedicated forum like DSMtuners. If you choose to share your DSM updates over on FB, ask/answer DSM questions over on FB, organize DSM meets over on FB, post stuff for sale or WTB, and interact with other DSMers over on FB about DSM topics, instead of doing all of that stuff here in the forum on a daily or weekly basis - or however often you would typically do it on FB, all you're doing is supporting FB (Team Zuck) and throwing all your content away on that platform. Not only are you NOT showing your support for DSMtuners, quite the contrary, you're doing a detriment to this resource at the same time, since we rely on content contributions and participation from DSMers to remain a valuable resource.

Where you choose to participate and post content online matters. Just like where you spend your money on parts matters. Proclaiming your support for DSMtuners in a FB post and then proceeding to interact with other DSMers over on FB daily instead of here is like slapping a Forced Performance sticker on your DSM and wearing their t-shirts, and telling everyone you love their turbos and appreciate what they do for the DSM world, only to turn around and go spend your money on a Chinese eBay turbo, and then buying another eBay turbo when that one fails. I'm sure FP and @Robert Young really appreciate the "support". 😖 Not only is it an empty proclamation, some might even say it's contradictory and hypocritical. Who needs enemies when you have "supporters" like that?

Some won't give a shit about any of this, but if you do, you might want to consider changing your content posting habits. 😉 Or keep investing your time and content in Zuck's FecesBook social experiment. Think about this the next time you plan to post an update about your car, or photos from this weekend's Shootout. Where are you going to share that content? Will you do it in Zuck's playground or in a forum like ours? We appreciate all those who "get it".

Every post is meaningful to someone Curt. Even the seemingly simply ones. ;) Just replying and participating in the Hangout, or offering moral support in a build thread is impactful.

I do appreciate the sentiment.

I grabbed my DSM off here after going back and forth a few years. I didn't have Facebook and thought it would open a world of part access... Truth is no one wants to ship anything, local pickup in BFE.

So after a month or so with Facebook I just deleted it as mentioned by many before. Asking insane prices cause they can or were told to. Have no clue what they have and can't answer simple questions.

Social media needs to die in a fire 99.999% of it is trash.

I will support this community as I can. I seem to have no shortage on spending just trying to finding parts has become hard since I had my last one in 2012.

Older and wiser and now I value OEM parts even at the cost.

Posting something for sale? Prepare for a hundred trolling asshole comments from people never interested and that were never gonna buy anything from you.

Try to help someone with an answer? Be prepared to have someone reply to you with the most asshole comment ever despite you not being wrong.

Oh yeah, trolls and assholes love FB. It's entertaining for them. And the platform breeds more of that behavior daily, since it's pretty much totally unmoderated - well, except for their completely awkward attempts to try and moderate it using their algorithms. It's a cesspool for the most part. For keeping up with old friends and family, it's great. I do use it for that. But I purposely try and not use it for car-related stuff if I can help it, instead searching out the best forums for whatever application I'm focused on.

Honestly even for keeping up with family and old friends I’m beginning to doubt its feasibility. FB makes me hate people I otherwise liked in person.

Yup. It's become a very corrosive platform over the years, that's for sure. People have a tendency to say stuff on FB that they normally wouldn't say in real life, even to friends, family members, coworkers, etc. No matter how insulting or degrading. Again, back to the absence of moderation, but mostly due to the toxic behavior it promotes - that trolling mob mentality. And that's precisely what draws some people to it.

Spending too much time in facebook communities is just destroying the real relationships. And you would be obsessed with the idea that you have to follow what people are speaking in there. That's actually the huge stress.
 
I sure am glad I have never seen what that place is about. My life seems less stressful already!
YOU do a GREAT JOB CHRIS, so let me take a moment out if my BUSY (now retired) day to reiterate how much I appreciate YOUR forum. It makes me think, that in some small way, I make a difference for what we all seem to love, our cars! Thanks for keeping the site alive and well! What else would I do with myself???:thumb:
 
I won't beat a dead horse talking about FB. But I will say. I've taken permanent leave from that platform. I haven't done so with this one. Enough said.
