Saskatoon,
:laser:i was just wondering about BOV's and was wondering which type was better, the type that recirculates the air pressure, or the one that vents the built up pressure into the atmosphere. also i was wondering, if adding them would add anysort of horsepower, or really do anything performance wise for my car, i dont plan to upgrade my turbo, because to be honest i like the td05h,it has less turbo lag:)...anywho what do you guys think?

Before someone gets this thread closed, a recirculating valve is always the best bet. A aftermarket BOV will do nothing performance wise, but depending on what you buy will hold boost better. A 1g bov is the first choice for many shortly followed by the greddy type S and then the ssqv.

It wont do anything to your car. The stock 1g bov is just fine and Ive ran 25psi on them with no issues. If you want to get one that vents you would have to go with a maf translator setup.

There are many different types of tdo5 turbos, thats just the housing. You have a 14b, and to be honest you can get a way better turbo with minimal lag.

use the search option, there's a lot of info on this already :thumb: the only way a vent to atmosphere would be any good is if you have an auto b/c they do not vent between shifting

true, but then it just vents, as it shifts gears, it acts just like a recirculating one. i have a vent to atmosphere on my 2ga talon tsi awd (a/t) and i have no probs at all, in fact, it holds boost much better now

A MAF Translator will help this though anyways if you're venting.

Our cars weren;t meant to vent ;) so that's why they made MAF translators. Anyways recirculating is the way to go unless you have the money for a MAF.

, a recirculating valve is always the best bet. .

And thats where you would be wrong if a recirculating BOV is the best why do they make MAF translators, and you see people buting GM MAF sensors on thease cars.

thanks i was just curious as to which aftermarket BOV was the better, i figured that the recirculating would be better, but just wanted to be sure. also i belive my BOV has been "crushed", i know the reason, but im not quite sure what its supposed to add? something like its helps so that it doesnt leak at higher PSI?

You would be correct. I've seen a crushed 1g BOV hold 22 psi with no dificulty. If your not planning on upgradeing your turbo id stay with the 1g. If you want your bov louder buy a GM MAF or MAF translator. I'm pirtty sure there are write up's on both somewhere on here all you gota do is search.

....because you upgraded from that weak stock plastic 2G BOV. I could sneeze into one and it would leak.
