Which of these two fmic's are better?

PR's 1g kit has some major fitment issues that they refuse to address, and will blow you off if you bring it up after you buy. The kit basically forces you to get an intake and upgrade your maf, it won't work with OEM. Plan on ordering $40 worth of real tbolt clamps as they ones that come with it are pure garbage. I had fitment problems with my PR kit, they told me "too bad...other people buy/fab stuff and make it work, guess you will too, because we are sick of revising it". For a "bolt on" kit, "compatible with OEM"... once everything was said and done I could have had an ETS kit for what I spent making the PR kit work and fit with the filter/airbox. (MAFT and translator + PR kit = ETS kit :-/)

I've heard from people who have them that the VR kit is an easier install

I run the VRSF front mount and was very happy with the fitment and performance up to a point. I am now pushing 30 - 32 lbs through a Holset HX-35 and I see my intake temps rise 40* over the course of a 1/4 mile pass. This is not ideal by any means. I would say that if you are running something a little more moderate that the VRSF is a great choice and has a great bang for the buck value over the other two.

I dont like my PR kit. My throttle body pipe pointed up. It caused my gm maf to hit the hood. If I would have known i was going to have so many fitment issues i would have assembled my own kit.

That god speed, pr and vsrf are all the same ebay kit. Buy it off of ebay and save the hassle and mark up. I promise you.

The ets kit is how much? About 900 bucks... my ebay kit, same exact core size and pipe size was 350. and they have the same cooling efficiency, same route, and same look. the only thing you pay for is the name. I am very happy with my ebay kit, that I purchased from PR.

How did i know this would end up being a punishment vs VRSF thread................ VRSF is short route, punishment is not, enough said. godspeed sucks donky dik.... and ETS is your best bet.

How is Punishment a long route kit?

While PR and Godspeed are both "Ebay" companies, they are very different kits. And Ebay sells the PR kits for $30-50 more than punishment themselves.

Im just gonna stay out of this, nobody is taking the advise anymore. You just gotta take a day off from the world and look up as many fmic kits as you can find and you decide which is the best one. I always do that with all of my parts and have not been disappointed.

i didnt say anything about punishment being an ebay company, i said god speed was. Its a long route because it has more piping length then the shortest route possible althugh looking at that pic, that PR FMIC kit does not look the same as the other 2g kits i have seen around here. Maybe they have somethin new out, but their kits used to have two U pipes on either side of the core and from the U pipe would have to go to the TB, not much longer then VRSF but still longer. Mine is shorter then that one. The greddy kits tend to be the longest route with miles of pipe.

you are very incorrect, VRSF and punishment both have their own design to their front mounts, and im sure both could chime in here. godspeed on the other hand, and CX racing are both the same ebay kit.

wow as i continue reading your post, the more i realize you are uninformed. ETS is the best company and you are paying for a quality custom made piece with custom design made IN HOUSE IN WASHINGTON STATE they are by far NOT the same efficiency as other fmics of lower cost. get it right man... if what you said was true we would all weld our own FMIC cores...

Edit: why do you think FMIC's are flow tested and have different thicknesses and dementions. probably for EFFICIENCY!!!!!!! as well as the CFM raiting.. its all BS right dsmrollerz90?

If you get the ETS ULTRA 12" race intercooler. you may be throwing down 900 bucks up front, but it will be the last FMIC you ever buy. im on VRSF currently and need something for my HX40 that will keep the IATs down more.

Edit again: WES yours is punishment? is it a new or old version cause the only punishment kits ive seen look like this http://www.punishment-racing.com/punishment-racing-fmic-kit-1995-99-eclipse-talon/ yours looks more like VRSF type core for the 1g.

I never said you said they were Ebay kits. I quoted someone else. But it's still short route if it doesn't use the stock SMIC hole, regardless of length. Some shorter than others, but the route is the same.

I dont have an IAT, so i cant give accurate evaluation, but the fitment and quality of the PR kit is very good. The t bolt clamps are not "shit" by any means, they work great. I barely had to modify anything to make it fit. That said, your a 1g, so fitment issues may come up.

Oh, and ETS isnt charging for the name. The big HP guys use them for a reason... The PR kit and ETS are way way different in as far as how efficient they are.

I dont plan on running any more then 15 lbs of boost. Will the VRSF be an okay choice for me. Does anybody know how the routing is on the VRSF?

And might i add, i dont have 900$ to spend on a fmic right now. Its unnecessary. I'm only 17 and working with a mcdonalds paycheck, the 3 to 400$ range is much more friendly.

HEY!!!!! I'm like 99.9999% sure that is my car ^^^^ Wes. LOL !!!!!

Where did you find that picture at because it was the original owner that installed that GReddy/Trust FMIC and it has been good for about 10 years now but I am in need of a new intercooler now because that one gets heat soaked after a few runs when running 20+ PSI.

I have a similar question guys. Over the next 1-2 years I plan on building an engine/car to make between 350-500whp (I hope). Those are the goals. My question is will this kit with the VRSF FMIC be sufficient enough for a 500whp build? Also is the fitment good and installation guide straight forward?

This is what I am looking at.

The vrsf is a short route. And i think its a perfect choice for your set up and most street cars. Most dsm's period to be honest.

I've installed and helped install 3 vrsf kits. Two 2g's and 1 1g. They fit great. One was speed density and another had the gm maf. So thats about as wide a range as it gets haha. The fit was perfect on all of them. I was really impressed. One of the 2g set ups we replaced a damaged ets kit and honestly it fit even better then the ets kit did. It was a really old kit but regardless i personally love the vrspeed kits.

^^^ Yes Mitsubishiown if your goals are 350-500 MAX, the VRSF kit will be MORE than enough to support those power levels and 30+ PSI with no problems if you have the other supporting mods.

Really? That's awesome! So is the install pretty straight forward or what?

Edit: Just seen the post 2 above! Awesome I can't wait to order it although it won't go on for a long time.

Can anyone guess what a shop would charge me to install one of these? Or is the kit something i could figure out with some time?

It's something you can do yourself. No point in getting a shop to do that, not to mention you learn more about your car the more you tinker with it.

there are two types of intercoolers, ---bar and plate---, and ---tube and fin---,

tube and fin sucks. now intercooler piping is intercooler piping so it doesnt matter.

c-clamps, important piece worth getting good ones.

intercooler couplings, buy ONLY silicone ones, with atleast 4 ply.

done.
