Which of these two fmic's are better?

so for those of you curious. would you want to be in my position spending 1600 bucks when i could have spent an initial 900 and called it a day up to 8 second 1/4 miles?

The problem with this statement is the fact that those cores are massive. Far too large for anyone with a bolt on turbo, or someone with a dd/ww.

You cant just twist the wick on a small frame turbo already running past its efficiency. That pressure drop is power potential lost.

I particularly disappointed that a member from 04 is recommending sweatshop crap.

I assume that you are referring to me because i am the only one that joined on 04. I used to spend a lot of money on high dollar intercoolers, but the 800 dollar buschur racing intercooler i bought was the bigger pos i have ever owned so i started buying cheaper ones and realized that they were in ways better than some of the more expensive ones. There used to be a company called etd on ebay that sold one of the best intercoolers i've ever had. It was around 250 for the intercooler without piping (i make all my own piping) and the end tanks were at least 3 times thicker with an exact core design to the buschur intercooler. The dimensions were near identical also. They sell a brand now called cx racing, i have yet to run one of them but it looks real similar. I ran that intercooler for 5 years before selling my 1g and never had one problem with cracked welds, leaks, or high intake temp's. The best part is that it fit under the crash bar and fit the car well. I scrapped the buschur because it was in such bad condition when i got done with it. I don't go out and buy the cheapest intercooler that there is, but i will never buy a high end intercooler ever again from my experience.

I have also installed ets cores in the past. I was not as impressed with the newer intercoolers as i was their older ones. The older ones used a stamped end tank and was built like a tank. The newer ones that i've installed used a welded end tank with thinner than i prefer metal. The core itself seemed to be designed pretty well though.

On a positive note, ETS 1g cores work with PR short rough 1g piping. Literally a half hour swap. I was told straight up by English Racing that I wouldn't be able to hit 400hp on my build because of my PR intercooler, and he's tuned plenty of cars with them. He didn't tell me to go out and buy any particular replacement, he just told me those numbers aren't feasible with pump gas and my setup unless I swapped to a thicker/bigger/more efficient core.

Look at TalonDave's experience with the Buschur core. The Buschur core sucks. It is not a good example of an "expensive" core, as it seems to offer little more than added expense over other cores. It is also a lot older of a design than most of whats available today. Like the Greddy design that everyone acknowledges was nice at the time because it was available, but has been surpassed.

i got the opportunity to help a friend install a CXracing FMIC kit.

a month or two later, i put on an ETS street core, which the CXracing kit is copying.

honestly, i wish i had put his CXracing one on, then the ETS, and logged the two for IAT's to tell a difference. same everything, boost level, tune, etc, just different intercoolers. the ETS one next to the CXracing one looks like a work of art. CXracing got the shape and close to the same dimension, but if you saw the welds, core construction, and the way the mounting tabs and thread bosses were done better too. the CXracing ones weren't level. the mounting brackets they included bent, and had to be drilled out to fit. the CXracing welds look like they would burst over 20 psi. the ETS kit has very nice, beefy welds. it took 33 psi every day, never had any problems.

needless to say, i began another 1g project a month or so ago, and got another ETS core for it. it worked very well even for my 3052 setup. now it will practically retire, working with a 16g ROFL

thats why they have more options like i said then just the massive race fmic, they have plenty of street options, why dont you go to their site and check it out before sayin stuff like that.

Well, they make a number of custom Turbo kits and maifolds as well :)

But, they have expanded more over the years, also worth noting they have a large assortment of cars of different makes to Dyno test all their product in house... .

I made my recommendation and all I am going to add at this point is why buy things twice... ?

True this is but as most the parts they sell compared to how many people buy them is more or less why the price is that high if that makes sence. So u sell a ETS 40r how many people are actually going to buy them? Due to drivability funds to run a race car for that turbo. So if adding all the math like how many people to how many parts they sell equals a high price due to not alot of sales. Now if more people bought ets kits I mean it could vary for price but you got to remember all the other factors like time and quality go into there products so you are paying for all that. Exspensive yes but totally worth it if you have the funds. Ets has been growing as non of the other so called "ebay" ones are the same thing year after year.

I bought a VRSF front mount. The routing is short and simple. I am happy with it now, only problems is that FedEx dented my core and I got compensation money plus my o2 sensor for my wideband AEM gauge is in the way. Gotta rework the piping in the hot side of the intercooler. I am also running a holset hx35

Much of that had to do with us feeding 72 lb/min of airflow through a core that was designed for a 20G....however, the DeJon race FMIC that was on the car prior to the Buschur had a bigger core on it but was also almost an inch thinner. I figured they would perform nearly identically being that the majority of the DeJon core was behind the bumper anyway, but it was far superior to the Buschur at actually cooling the air.

I'd like to see a heads-up test between the Buschur Street core and a Punishment/CXRacing core. The Buschur is 1/2" thinner and has three more rows of bar/plate within it, but is otherwise identical.

I don't see a reason for this thread to remain open- we're not even talking about the two intercoolers the O.P. asked about anymore, it's just turned into another "eBay vs. everyone else" discussion. If he wants results, he'll search. The information is out there- you don't need to start a new thread every time you have a question people. To the Graveyard.
