The stock lower intercooler pipe pops off my Big T28 Killer when it starts to boost. Why? Do I need a hard pipe? Well i'm leaking coolant and have to go tighten this bolt down. Please give some advice Im stumped.

If all else fails, get some long couplers so you have more of the pipe inside of the coupler. I was using small couplers and kept blowing them off. I went down to Napa and got a few feet of truck radiator hose and ended up using like 6" peices of couplers to hold them on. I haven't had any trouble since. :thumb:

Or you can just spay hairspray on the ic pipes before installing the couplers. Be liberal with it and then tighten them down. Once the hairspray is dry, it takes an army to get the coupler back off.

But it would be best to bead the pipes.

I'd do it everything they said above man, maybe try the hair spray last though, in case you wanna take that off someday. I suggested all kinds of shit when I was talking to Adam on the phone. Good luck man.

my car is set at stock boost but i keep blowing off my upper intercooler pipe. my MAF is set up between the intake manifold and upper intercooler pipe and is connected w/ a rubber reducer(3" to 2"). this reducer keeps popping off at about 4k rpm at WOT. i haven't tried replacing the rubber piece but that's on my list to do tomorrow. any other ideas?

Not a smart idea. :notgood:

Get longer coupler and go from there. what kind of material the intercooler pipe made of? Steel?

Is it popping off from the 3" MAF side or the pipe side? I had a similar problem with my lower pipe. What I did was drilled a few small holes close to the edge of the pipe and then Screwed in a few 1/4" long sheet metal screws to create a bead. Be sure to use screws with a round head so you don't tear the coupler. Hasn't popped off since and I'm running 21lbs.

pipe is hard plastic

it's popping off of the 3' MAF side

Thats odd. My MAF couplers were a PITA to get on. I had to stretch the crap out of them and lube them to even get them on. I would suggest maybe some t-bolt clamps and tighten the hell out of them.

My lower IC pipe blew off and I found out I wasn't running stock boost. I didn't notice an aftermarket boost gauge in your profile but that would verify your boost level. I was pushing over twenty lbs with my stock turbo because my BCS was hosed. I ended up running the compressor housing nipple straight to the WG (and adding a quality gauge) and now I'm at 14/15. Just something to consider before you hammer down on the clamps and so on. Not that it is a bad idea, but if you are going off your stock gauge, you could have another issue causing your problem and burn something up.

Sorry Tripper I haven't updated my profile. I do have an aftermarket guage to confirm that i am running stock boost. I'm going out tomorrow to pick up a t-bolt clamp. While I'm at it I'm gonna siceclipse's idea of using hairspray to help hold it on. Can't hurt to try.
Thanks again for all the replies.

Before you go buy new clamps - I'm sure you're just not tightening the ones on there enough. Instead of using a screwdriver, use an 8mm socket. Gets it a lot tighter.

I was using a socket to tighten my clamps down.
I went out this morning and got a new coupler to use. I put it on and it worked for about 3 gears, then on 4th gear right at about 4500 rpm, the coupler blew off again.
could my MAF be blocked up somehow that it's not letting the air pass through? This has me totally stumped.
