Installed my evo 8 front mount [Merged 7-8] ic intercooler fmic

If anyone out there has tried this; How hard is it to fit an EVO V Intercoler, and how much of a difference did it make?

Thanks tofast82. here's the photo you asked for. As you can see the fmic is a little off center due to the bracket on the fmic being off center. If i was anal about i would cut of the bracket re weld in the center and redo the pipes. But it's not that serious to me plus come next season i'll be buying a spearco core and making my own end tanks and new piping for my new set up.

Well, I've never liked the Evo FMIC mounted like you have it, but in your case it doesn't much matter due to the 2Ga bumper. Reminds me a bit of this install. I was mostly ragging on you 'cause you brought this back, but at least you did it with pix. The lower IC pipe (between the FMIC and turbo) did look a bit cocked, but hopefully the final install will prove its true placement. I must say the weld on the J-pipe looks very clean. Not bad at all.

Also it looks like crap even though its free its going to look funny after you get it in. I would just go with the ssac since they are direct bolt ons.

Is the ssac a direct bolt on now? About a year ago it wasn't- you had to cut the front end, trim piping, and make your own mount points. There are other direct bolt on ic's like the punishment racing one.

tougher install on 1g. you have to eliminate latch and go to hood pins if I am not mistaken.

great IC for the money. easy supports 400whp and more

Not sure why you would have to do that. Gonna do this soon on my 1g

Well after getting an Evo 8 fmic from my buddy who was off-loading parts, i FINALLY got everything together to install! After 12 hours of mocking up piping and cutting and piecing everything together, here it is! No leaks and i def. feel a stronger pull in 3rd and 4th gear!!

Looks good! I am looking to do the same in my 2g. I was wondering did you order a universal pipe kit off ebay or did you custom fab the pipes yourself?

Yes sir. Good 'ol ebay universal!! Had to cut a few of the pipes since they come just one standard length but, with patience and some more patience, it all worked out.

Okay. Which universal kit did you buy because I have seen kits with U pipes and kits without U pipes. What j-pipe do you have and what is the clearance like by the fans?

A slim fan is a must!!! The kit i purchased didn't have any "u" pipes although one would have come in handy. Lol. Here is a pic of the kit i purchased.

Ive been thinking of doing this for the time being if it comes out good and is a little cheaper!

Overall, what is the est. cost of the work?
what turbo you using and at what psi, how does it feel?

I will post more pics tomorrow after work. Just got home and it's a little dark out! I'm running the Evo III 16g and i actually went under the radiator support to run the drivers' side. For the time being. Just till Friday when i get my new j-pipe.

Got my hard piping on and the Evo 8 front mount and my hard piping kit. It needs lined up a little more but I felt a nice increase from this mod and was very happy with it. I didn't want a HUGE IC cause its not needed for my set up so I picked this up for 80 bucks .

Good job. It seems a lot of the DSM crowd picks these up from Evo owners but never does anything with them because of the hassle of getting the pipes to work. I too would like to see a shot of the pipe routing if you wouldn't mind?

You paid $80 for the core, how much did it cost for the rest of the install and were you able to re-use any of the factory IC pipes?

Yes I would also like to see how the original piping was used I have one but it is not on the car yet.
