The stock lower intercooler pipe pops off my Big T28 Killer when it starts to boost. Why? Do I need a hard pipe? Well i'm leaking coolant and have to go tighten this bolt down. Please give some advice Im stumped.

Bead your IC pipes and you wont have much more problems

How do you bead your pipes if they are not. Mine are all beaded, but if I wanted to do some custom work how would you bead them. Is there a tool you can buy to do it?

I believe it's called a welder

I just took a pliar on my aluminum pipes and made and bent a beed all around. It almost looks like it came like that besides the scratches ofcourse.

right now I have all my wrenches, sockets, ratchets, 2 torque wrenches (ft/lbs and in/lbs), a 2 lb mallet, a ball-peen hammer, and other misc. tools... I know its overkill but I'm 2 hours away from home and plan on going another 2 hours away on the weekend.

LOL

Does the original poster have beads on his pipes? I can't figure out why anyone would use pipes with no beads. You're just asking for shit like this to happen. If they're beaded, you're not tightening your clamps down enough or you're using the wrong size couplers or something. Get some heavy duty clamps from RRE or go t-bolt.

yep, beaded pipes and t-bolt clamps, i had been performing boost leak tests earlier in the day i think the coupler was on but i think i had alot of it on one pipe and not enough on another combined with beat motor mounts = me in the rain....LOL

Haha tell me about the I/C piping popping off. I made custom piping for my Evo8 FMIC and have been using unbeaded pipes all this time. Everytime I would hit 12+ PSI, BOOM! PSHHHH!... I hated whenever it popped off right underneath the exhaust manifold! Burned myself about 3 times already, but now I finally welded a bead around the pipes and used tbolt clamps. I havent ran more than 10 PSI because im so damn scared of having to pull over and burn myself again :(.

I know what this is like. The i/c pipes blowing off has been there to haunt me ever since I went with a front mount. I got t-bolt clamps, and these seem to help out a lot, or so I thought. I was driving my car around on the first night I started my new motor up. I was letting one of my buddies ride along. I gradually made it up to 10 lbs, and then like a switch was hit as sson as it hit 10, BOOM, and I saw out of the corner of my eye a blue flame shot out of my intercooler. Then yeaterday I was giving my girlfreind a ride in the car with the new motor and I blew the same pipe off at about 7lbs. One day when I can keep these pipes from blowing off, my car might actually be fun to drive. LOL

P.S. Your right about being scared to hit it now. I always am watching that guage whenever I drive around. I am afraid to hit around 10 and hear that pipe blow off. SUCKS!!!

Have you got a bead welded around your pipes yet? That makes me a little more confident that it wont pop off. :thumb:

I just looked it up in the yellow pages and theres at least 8 different welding places in your city alone,

i'd buy a 20$ toolkit special with all the basic tools you need in a compact package and keep it in your car for situations like this. ;)

So you're saying get some JB weld, mold a ring around the end of the pipe, let it harden. Then use hairspay around the other side of the ring for insurance? Too easy if true...makes sense too.

Careful with the jb weld make sure you scuff up the surface first so the jb has something to hold onto. otherwise you might get jb in the intake.

basicly a socket set of 8-17mm and two screwdrivers can save you alot of hassle
the only sockets a dsm'er needs are the following:

8mm,
10mm,
12mm,
14mm,
17mm,
19mm,
21mm,
24mm,
32mm

with those sockets, you can unbolt any bolt on a dsm. Although I don't know why you would carry the 32mm around, as taking off the castle nut normally involves changing the axle, which requires new tranny fluid, a jack, jackstands, and a breaker bar. If you carry those around with your car at all times, your in some serious trouble.

As a DSM owner you should know that you should carry basic wrenches and sockets at all times :)

Been there, done that. Laying under your car on the side of the highway in a downpour sucks :)
