If anyone out there has tried this; How hard is it to fit an EVO V Intercoler, and how much of a difference did it make?

I would go with the front mount, the supra is mounted on the side correct. A front mount is going to allow the air to cool better plus the upgraded piping. I am not sure why the others posted that it would not do any good with the 14b but if your ever planning on upgrading then the intercooler system is ready to go. depending on you current piping and if you go with a hard pipe vs stock hose you will be able to hear the turbo 10x better and will give you a chance to replace the TB elbow.

Why would the front mount not do any good with a 14b.... can there be no performence to be gained by this at all

The 14b can flow 34-35lbs/min. . . With the proper support that any other 35 lb/min turbo deserves. The location of a supra sidemount and the fact that the plates are more stacked on each other vs spread out for more cool air to reach the fins means that it is not as good as a decently sized FMIC like the evo unit.

f you had a turbo that can flow enough for 320+whp, would you settle for a sidemound that is thich and not "sprawling" to catch the most cold air PLUS poorly located? The 14b DESERVES a FMIC. It is terribly underrated (One who's seen 380hp trap speeds with it in 2700lb car) . . . perhaps because noone uses frontmounts with them anymore:| .

You can gain performance I guess, but it's not really necessary for a 14b. You can use the stocker, or a 2g one or the supra side mount and have it cool very well. People can get into 11s on supra side mounts. If you going for looks and going to upgrade your turbo later on, by all means go for it.

Ditch the Supra intercooler and fab up some pipes for the EVO intercooler. The supra intercooler doesn't get much flow compared to a front mount. If you're like most of us you will get tired of the 14b sooner or later and the EVO intercooler will work with bigger turbos too.

I mounted the center bracket on the fmic to the 2g radiator/bumper support bracket (make sure to use a lock washer)

Stock Evo intercooler piping works the best, Just have to modify it a little (lower piping only 20G turbo)

I'm mounting mine next Friday upside down from how the EVOs have them installed. IMHO the way they look on the EVOs (and if installed the same way on 2Gs) just doesn't appeal to my taste. If you would like for me to post up pix when it's completed, just say so. :)

And yes, the end tank pipes will be rotated, just so everyone's clear.

EDIT: Jordon, I hope you don't mind. This is brainlessher0's 2G.

If you'll notice, his piping hangs a bit low. Hopefully I'll be able to avoid resorting to this. I will be using a universal piping kit I got off eBay for ~75 (not including shipping). As some of you may be able to guess, this type of offer is from our good friends over at CXRacing. Anyways, for that kind of cash, and having the kit include couplers and SS T-bolt clamps, I couldn't go wrong.

Here is another thread where you'll find a picture.

I dont mind, Thats a good idea! That was temporary piping on a t-25 turbo. We have upgraded the cars piping sense then.. I owe dsmunkown some pics so ill do my best to snap them tonight and post them on the forum ;)

For even a more direct route, here are some photos I'm borrowing from other members.

BTW, I've been asking Jordon to send me pictures for weeks now. :p

My T25 will also be very temporary. 14B awaiting a WG actuator in good condition.

Yeah I wouldn't go with the stock Evo piping, you mise well buy a piping kit if you are upgrading to a fmic. All hard pipes are better for both performance and sound.

I disagree, The evo piping is the shortest route available. (lower intercooler piping)

Most people that go with an evo fmic are doing it because they picked one up cheap.

I did not use the lowering piping from the evo that connects to the j pipe, Ill take a pic of the piece I used tonight.

I just bought some piping from ebay, and cut it up till it fit; only took 3 hours or so. Here is a pic of my old GST with a Evo fmic.

It's called custom piping, Hard pipes are always better. My roomate couldn't even run high boost with stock piping on his Evo because it kept blowing off. It doesn't make sense to me to go through the process of a fmic install and use anything less than hard pipes.

The evo intercooler piping is hardpiping and 9 times out of 10 you can get it for FREE WTF

You do not utilize the same evo setup, Only pieces ... The uper intercooler piping can be made with 2 45* couplers 1 90* Coupler and 3 ft of tubing. ($20 if you cut the stock evo couplers)

Currently running 20lb with a 20g turbo...

No it's not all hardpiping, and it does increase power to upgrade to hard pipes, or they wouldn't sell piping kits for Evo's. I'm sorry but 20psi isn't that much. I have 2 buddies running 30+ psi on their Evo's and both of them had to upgrade intercooler piping.

Evo intercoolers are only rated for 25psi... efficiently so im told

You only use the hard pipes ;) The soft pipes can be cut and used for couplers

One of our shop Evos runs 32 lb, He needed to update his whole setup to handle that level of boost. If you can afford to run 30+ lb of boost your not looking for a used evo fmic.

And 20 psi with a ported and clipped 20g with bullseye housing is a more then sufficient setup on a stock evo fmic (We plan on upgrading when we install meth and cams next month)

Either way you will be okay, Utilize some of the evo piping and save your self some money or have someone weld up custom piping for you. Evo intercooler is a great route for anyone under or around 300hp, That seems to be the magic number the evo guys upgrade there intercoolers at.

so i can buy one of those evo fmic kits off of ebay and put it on my 2g with little modifications. The evo fmic and piping kits are 100 cheaper than the ssac kit.

yeah i found the intercooler online for 75 off craigslist.. and the piping issue is solved im getting it from dejon powerhouse... the only thing is the one pipe runs to the hole in the fender and the other obviously to the turbo but the one from the TB that i'll have to buy goes straight down as is it were a short route i dont really know what im gunna do about that yet
