Intercooler Cleaning IC [Merged 11-7] clean smic fmic

I have read a lot about cleaning your intercooler... I was just wondering if any of you guys have done it, and can you feel a differance? I took a look at mine this morning and it does look pretty nasty...........

Yeah, you can use degreaser, though some of them say they aren't recommended for use on aluminum. Even with a catch can, you may have a light film of oil in the IC piping, especially if you have that catch can recirculated.

You may want to try aluminum polish to clean up your IC instead.

ok, i just picked up a swapped fwd laser. The turbo is blown. I started taking the intercooler and all the piping out to get all the oil out of it. I'm throwing on a big 16g and tossing the 14b. There is oil EVERYWHERE. I turned the intercooler and almost a quart came out of the damn thing. I was told that gas would be good for cleaning the intercooler and all the piping out. would brake kleen or carb/tb cleaner work too? My biggest question is do i have to pull the manifold and everything out to clean it too? would i be ok just hitting it it with tb cleaner and getting it best i can without pulling it?

I pour diesel fuel into my intercoolers and just swish it around until it comes out clean. Kerosene works well also. Personally, I'd take off all your intercooler piping and clean it, as well as the throttle body. I doubt there's enough to worry about in your intake manifold - most of it likely ended up in your engine.

Or take it and presser wash it? $2.00 cost is a cheap clean fix.

I always use diesel fuel for the clean then an acid bath but I don't know how many people have one so... Go with the diesel fuel.

I use carb cleaner, any of the things mentioned will work.

The diesel fuel seems to be very popular. I was also curious about this and helps out a lot.
