The stock lower intercooler pipe pops off my Big T28 Killer when it starts to boost. Why? Do I need a hard pipe? Well i'm leaking coolant and have to go tighten this bolt down. Please give some advice Im stumped.

Depending on the material you could take a punch and hit the crap out of it in four locations that will make little bumps. Use T-Bolts and you should never have a problem.

Agreed. I run 20 psi, with unbeaded IC piping. No problems with couplers blowing off. I used hairspray and t-bolt clamps.

Just take a cresent wrench and clamp it down on the opening edge of the pipe and bend the lip out just a bit and work the wrench arounfd the whole perimeter of the pipe.
Cheap, simple, and works. Instead of just friction holding the pipe on, you now have a small lip for the clamps to push against. Don't bend it out so much that you cant get the connector on.
Good Luck,

I've heard that some people use superglue to glue the silicone on the pipe. Lingerfelter used it on his 8 sec Vette and it worked fine. Never tried it, just heard it.

Go to www.hightempsilicone.com tell Jim Jesse sent you. I use the're 4-ply aramid polyester reinforced good for 500 degrees and 90 psi couplers and transitions with their 150psi tight t-bolts on non beaded pipes w/o any adhesive. Works awsome. Spend the money, anybody whos had a coupler blow off at night knows its money well spent. :thumb:

A cheap and easy fix I've heard of is to spray hair spray on the pipe, then slide the rubber coupling.
That worked great for me. I didn't really believe it when I heard of doing this, but my i/c pipe blew off twice at the road race course, then I used the ol' can of hair spray and it hasn't come loose since.

I use regular hose clamps and unbeaded pipes. Ran 30 psi a couple of times on races gas and never blown off an intercooler pipe. Then again look at my gallery the pipes have no where to blow off to. :D

My friend told me that you can use a rubberband and wrap it around the pipe, if the coupler tries to move after you've clamped it down, the rubberband will act as a wedge between the pipe and the clamp - creating a tight seal.

My top ic pipe blows off but only if Ihold it at 5 psi in 4th or 5th gear for anylength of time. My car peaks over 20 psi (that is as high as my boost guage goes) and used to hold that with no problem but just had head rebuilt and this crap started.

I just went and got a new longer hose. My IC pipes are made of exhaust pipe with no bead or flare at the end so I got a hose long enough where it doesn't have room to blow off. Cost me 12 dollars at Napa. Downfall: It was a bi*** to get on. Hasn't come off yet and i ran a Acura Integra GSR V-tec tonight, held at a constant 15psi.

i like to use ULTRA HOLD GEL with my equipment. right after a good shower make sure your hair is still wet then apply.

It helps if you tighten the clamps. Drive the car around until it's nice and hot under the hood and do another round of tightening. You'll find you can get one or two more turns on the clams when they're hot.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I got my pipes to stop blowing off by beading my pipes and using the good ol' hairspray trick!

Alright, I had an intercooler coupling blow off on me tonght. Get this though, the car came with t-bolt clamps throughout the entire path, but a bunch of them were leaking when I did an pressure test. Tightening them did no good, in fact seemed to make them leak worse, since they were poking up where the two sides come together, if that makes any sense. So I replaced many of the faulty 2.5" couplers with regular worm gear clamps and it all sealed fine. I left the two t-bolt clamps in place that where they connect to the gm maf, since I didn't have any regular clamps on hand that size and they didn't look distorted like the other ones, plus they weren't leaking during my pressure test. Well, one of those remaining t-bolts is what popped off. How tight should a person tighten a t bolt clamp? I noticed some of the regular intercooler pipes were physically ovalled a bit from the force of the t bolt clamps. I'd like to try and use these t-bolt clamps on the gm maf, but I'm afraid I'll tighten them too much and crack the maf. Is that possible? I'm just trying to figure out why t-bolt clamps work great in everone else's garge, but in mine, they just seem to be worse than worm gear clamps.

Man I've blown my turbo to stock side mount couplers on both ends 3 times in the last 2 weeks OMG

Maybe my side mount is clogged ?

All stock Except 3" extreme catback+free mods all hard pipes type s bov.

I'm so annoyed and afraid to wear anything nice since I may have to get on the ground everytime I go somewhere LOL

Clean it out, and check it. If you are replacing the couplings anyways, mind as well save yourself some time and money and do it right. It's not hard at all.

BTW forgot to mention that the pipe is such a tight fit that in order to get the couplers on I had to lube the hard pipe ends with dialectric grease and slide the cuplers on the pipe then fit the pipe and slide the couplers over the joints and clamp them.

So the grease is making them slippery but the turbo side clamp keeps poping off cause the hard pipe is flexing upwards under boost I guess

twice in 24 hours now the turbo side clamp has poped off the coupler.
Its not damaged and the coupler which is radiator hose actually is not greasy on the outside so I'm confused why it keeps poping off WTF

There's your trouble. Get all that off with brakleen, and switch to hairspray.
