I can't be the first person that has done this. I busted out both honeycombs in my MAF. Does anybody sell replacements ? Or have an idea about what I should do. The car is idleing very rough now and misses whenever I am not accelerating.

Thanks a million. Has anyone noticed any gains with this? And, has anyone noticed anything detrimental after removing the lower honeycomb?

I just got my 91 TSI AWD and have done the free mods minus the lower honeycomb removal.

My car is stock and I heard it will wreck your idle.

Is this True??

DONT TAKE IT OUT!i bought my car not knowing it was already gone and i can never get it 2 idle right and now im stuck buyin new one...

Lission to these guys, the only reasion to do this mod is if your an idiot, and you did something like install 550cc injectors with NO MEANS of controling them or a higher flow and pressure fuel pump, this will help get the A/F mix CLOSER to what it should be, but still rich.

So by doing this to a stock car, it will make it run leaner. Which may give you a bit more power at stock boost, but turn it up and it spells knock/detonation.

Ripper is pretty much right... There really is no reason to do the mod in question to a stock car. However, when you are able to correctly add more fuel(fuel pump, AFPR, larger injectors, fuel pressure gauge)and safely turn up your boost; this is a good modification to free up a little extra airflow. Read the VFAQ, it can answer most of your initial questions all at one time. Good Luck!

does some one drive with the honeycomb removed?
can you notice the difference?
thanks.

my honeycomb has banged up so I removed it, I haven't had any problems.

I went to remove the lower honeycomb on the mass off my 90 GSX. I had read on the vfaq that you had to grind off some rivets and remove some the small retainers on the lower honeycomb...well on my car the honeycomb pretty much just came out. All I did was wiggle the honeycomb around a little and it came right out. It took about 5 seconds. My question is do I need to remove the rivets and small retainers? You can see them in the pic below.

I also turned out the screw beneath the lower honeycomb so it was not blocking air flow. Thanks for the help.

Is the MAS on a 4g64 the same as the 2G 4g63? The adapter plate is the same but I just don't know. Can't you remove a honeycomb deal from the MAS? I looked in the VFAQ and it says for a 1G only. Just curious in looking for little HP here and there. BTW Turbo 4g64 Hybrid almost done!!!

With DSMs there are the infamous free mods and one of the most popular is the removal of the honeycomb in the MAF. Some people say that it's safe and some don't. I was just wanted to know if we could settle this once and for all. Is removing your honeycomb a safe and effective free mod? :talon:

that link is for a 1g.. if you have a 2g, there's only one way to find out. take out the side honey combs and see how she runs.. and remember.. dont FUDGE them up when taking them out, because you might need to put them back in.

btw, the BCS removal mod is way more worth the time than this honeycomb thing

I just took out lower and side honey combs and now the car idles like it's got 272's, but it hasn't stalled so I think i will leave it. to forwarn you it was terrible the first two times I drove it, I had to give it gas when I stop to keep it from stalling, but then the third time I drove it it idled fine on it's own. I think the computer adjusted for the idle.
