I can't be the first person that has done this. I busted out both honeycombs in my MAF. Does anybody sell replacements ? Or have an idea about what I should do. The car is idleing very rough now and misses whenever I am not accelerating.

As I mentioned before, LSx guys take this out with no ill effects. This is one of their free mods and they don't do any tuning for it. Their cars don't go lean.

the honey comb straightens the air flow to make it run across the
heated sensors consistently. gets rid of the swirl effect if any. i do
not think it should be removed.

The maf screens increase accuraccy of the sensor, it straightens out air if there is any turbulance, simple as that.

Can most get away with it? Most likely, as it only cures a small amount of turbulence as it is. I have put a few turbo's on LS1s here at the shop, and I had to make a custom maf "housing" sorta for them, to give plenty of straight tube before and after the sensor, the accuracy of a screened maf was more consistent under boost, with less jumping around.

I am interested to see what sort of readings you get with a "de-finned" maf, as I have considered doing that with my turbo setup.

I have a 90 galant gs nonturbo 2.0 dohc. Just replaced my engine due to a timing belt that jump time an trashed my other one. After replacing the engine the new one ran rough like really rough. So after troubleshooting i found that the lower honeycomb portion of the mas had melted an there was pieces of it everywhere in the air intake. I know the mas honeycomb being damaged or missing will make it run rough. My question is what damage has likely been done to the new engine by all the little pieces of honeycomb in there?
