I can't be the first person that has done this. I busted out both honeycombs in my MAF. Does anybody sell replacements ? Or have an idea about what I should do. The car is idleing very rough now and misses whenever I am not accelerating.

check out VFAQ.com theres all kinds of stuff on it there, under free mods. on a 2g there's more than one honeycomb...on the 1g there's 1 on the 2g you should only remove a certain one, doing otherwise will make it run like donkey doo.

What would happen if both of the honeycombs were removed from the MAF? Would that cause any problems?? I know you can remove the smaller one but what would happen if you removed both of them?? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

-This mod was good b4 the availability of the MAF Translator.:thumb:

I remember reading the webpage on how to do this, but when i looked at my honeycombs, i didnt know what to do with them. AM i supposed to saw them off? break them? Need help.

if you want to keep the honeycomb for some reason, you can take a flat head screw driver and pry up on the little tabes that hold it in place, then back out that screw on the botom covered in silicone.

DON"T take off the big honeycomb. the small one below it is fine to remove(though some people have encountered problems with this). The large honeycomb straightes the air flow out for the MAS to read proporly, without the honeycomb the air will be turbulant and create problems because the MAS gets a false reading.

This newbie removed both . How bad is this mistake ? Do I get another or upgrade to _________ what ? Sorry it is a 90 tsi .

Not some guy , me . Why is this so bad ? What do I need to upgrade ? I can not do this post where I say a friend of mine and not admit my own dumba__ mistakes . :D So help a newb out OMG .

ok the honeycombs straighten out airflow entering the turbo, if they arent there, the air is just swirling around every which way and could lead to turbo problems, and i think u will run really lean w/o them.

somebody correct me if im wrong:cool:

Running lean:confused: ? Would that cause bad idle ? Car likes to stall after it is warmed up . All other times runs fine ( aside from weird jerking at wot or full boost ) .

Anyone got pics of or use a gm maf and translator on a 1g . I have a 90 tsi . Would like to see install pics if possible . Also what are drawbacks , if any ?

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to remove the honey comb mesh on the mas, would it help the flow of air? it seems kind of restrictive and would it mess anything up by removing it?

Don't remove either bro. This is considered a "free mod" but on the 2g's I don't see it talked very often removing it.

:(

1st gens most of the time do it. But I wouldnt on a 2g. :)

I have the side honeycombs removed on mine, in an attempt to fix an overly rich condition before I got DSMlink. I didn't really experience any problems running it like that, apart from a lumpy idle occasionally (almost like cams :D ). And now that I have DSMlink, I'm probably going to remove the bottom honeycomb because there's actually a MAF compensation screen in DSMlink where you can adjust the settings to compensate for a hacked MAS so your idle is just like stock. Removing all the honeycombs is supposed to improve airflow 18%, I think is the number. Just be careful doing it if you don't know your A/F ratio because it will make you run slightly leaner.

Here she is, my MAS. I've heard of removing parts of the honycomb, or all of it to improve airflow... But I want to be absolutely sure before I do anything.

How much of both honycombs do I remove?
