THIS WILL BE RESERVED FOR BEGINNER E85 QUESTIONS, FOR TUNERS THAT HAVE NEVER HEARD OF RUNNING IT OR HAVEN'T RESEARCHED IT YET. THE ADVANCED E85 THREAD IS HERE FOR THE MORE ADVANCED QUESTIONS ---> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/372386-alternative-fuel-e85-ethanol-corn-gas-e70-advanced-merged.html

HOPEFULLY THIS WILL MAKE THE BASIC E85 INFORMATION MORE CENTRALIZED AND EASIER TO FIND FOR THE DSM'rs WHO ARE JUST GETTING THEIR NOSE WET AND ARE UNSURE OF WHAT E85 IS.

THANKS,

GOFER

Has anyone tryed running E85 in their dsm? Their is a station in my area that sells it and it's not much more than regular gas. It is 85% ethanol and 15% gas and is 110 octane . It could be a cheap alternative to race gas.

Um...No. Go ahead and wreck your engine then. If all you tune for is knock, why the heck does anyone ever tune on a dyno? You tune for power, torque, and reliability, not knock alone. At some point, you'll add enough timing to start losing power. IMO a knock sensor is useless on E85. It's possible on many cars to run basically any amount of timing, and any AFR without showing knock. 1g's can be a bit different IMO just because the knock sensing is finicky and overly sensitive on some cars.

Just the way you said it made me think you don't even look at knock. Yes I have tuned my car and ran a 12.028 on a 16g. So i do know what to look for. Just the way you said it may have giving other people the wrong idea. But yea I have seen some 1gs have thier sensor go bad. But when it does it usually show a ton of knock.

Getting a little OT here, but a ton as in? 30+ counts? I haven't done ANYTHING to diagnose my knock yet as I'm still fixing things on the car, but having it out the other day for a test run I would be fine holding a steady RPM, but accel/decel was showing 10+ knock (42 peak). :hellyeah:

Edit: Nevermind. Went and did a search and hopefully figured out my problem. Move along, nothing to see here.

Not going to HTP for this one....maybe

HTP=Heartland Park? Are you drag racing or road racing? If you are road racing I wouldn't use Ethanol unless you have a big budget. You will have to bring so much spare gas for a track day, and plus for the money you would spend on a fuel system setup that will provide enough fuel, you could work on decent suspension setup. The only place where power is going to do you any good is on the front straight. Other then the back straights which aren't that long, Heartland road course is mostly turns. Lotus Elise's are, for the most part, the fastest cars during the car track days. From the looks of your setup, you've got plenty of power to get there. Trust me, suspension will benefit you way more at Heartland they power will. Case and point, I run the bike track days during the summer and the fastest bike out there is Hector St. John's 250 race bike. He will run away from every grand or busa out there and he's about a quarter of the displacement then most other bikes up there.
If you aren't talking about Heartland and I completely misunderstood what you meant by HTP then feel free to completely ignore everything I just said LOL. Sleep deprivation doesn't make for a very smart person.

Btw, how far out from the Kansas border are you? I'm in OP and I also plan on running Ethanol. It will be a while before I get back to working on my dsm though, since I just became a dad.

Back on subject. IMO if you are going to put that much money and effort into a fuel system that will benefit you that much, why wouldn't you replace all the lines with bigger and better lines? I plan on running a Bosch 044 in-line with my re-wired wally 255, my 1200cc injectors, a FIC fuel rail, and -8an lines from the pump to the rail. Oh and as far as filters needing to be replaced, StreetTunned Motorsports has a steel filter that goes into their fuel lab fuel filters that is actually designed to better withstand Ethanol.

PEOPLE READ The first post in this thread!
This is for anyone running e85.

How do you like it over pump? Pros? cons?

I stared to read this the other day an thought I should post some info but didn't have the time.

Now...:rolleyes:It's just a shit storm of people saying I think do this or do that... .
from people that have never run E85 then people debating with the people that have.

If you don't have first hand experience with e85 just don't post people...

Do everyone a favor if your not contributing to the thread edit your post to say

......

So that everyone wanting real info doesn't have to sift thru a bunch of BS

HTP means Hi-tuned performance. LOL they'relocated in imperial, mo. that's who has tuned my car for quite some time now. I'm about 5 hours away from the border.

im lookin to do e85 in my gsx im lookin to push 400hp for the track what kind of injectors should i be lookin for also a secoundary fuel pump what kind and what kind of -8 fuel lines??????????????

Get 1250cc fic blue max injectors. You dont need to run bigger fuel lines stock one are good. A walbro 255 with a rewire will work plenty for 400hp. Make sure you have a dsmlink or ostrich to tune for E85. Safc will not work with injectors that big. 650cc are the cut off i believe with a safc.

The Air Flow Converter takes the pulse (frequency) from the Mass Air Flow meter and either speeds it up or slows it down at different RPM points to make the ECU run the injectors either richer or leaner. All by itself, it can only give you a little more bottom end power by leaning out the mix some. If you try to richen the top end you will just hit fuel cut (100% fuel inj. pulse) sooner.

Your fine then with your setup. Just get bigger fuel injectors and make sure your tuning with a dsmlink or ostrich. If you dont have your fuel pump rewired do it.

1150's would be more then enough. But if you just want to buy once i would just get the 1450's. People have made 650 on e85 with them. Your single walbro will be good to about 500 on e85. As other's have said stock lines are fine.

Seriously Does anyone even try to seach around here anymore?
Click here to start If that doesn't work for you... . Click here

As said above the Stock lines will work fine... If you have a Walbro 255 Make sure its a 255HP(High Presure) another option would be One of the larger drop in pumps Like this one click Here or This one Clicky

If you Know/understand what kind of Airflow your turbo can support airflow wise in Lbs/min I'll save you some trouble serching for part of what you need to read up on Click here

i did read up a lot on stuff i found the book called how to build a max performance 4g63t theres everythin in there im just askin if there is any perticular brand or if there is an eaiser way to do the rewiring it told me in the book that it sould be at 14v but bc of the wiring and connecters it drops it to 12v i know more then it looks like so dont b hatein to much

IMO, if you have a 35R on the car and are going to change injectors you are better off getting injectores that can support 600hp since the turbo is capable of it easily. You will eventually want to turn up the boost, why have to buy injectors again? That is if you have a engine management capable of handling controlling them. That you cannot do with a SAFC, my car my money I would get ECMlink and then injectors closer to 1600cc.

yea i allready have ecmlink v3 in my car and one of my friends told me to get 1550s or 1650s so thats prob what im gonna end up doin but as far as a metal filter?? is that a replacement of the oem?

It's fine, so are your lines. You'll need to replace your filter a few times with a decent one and you may want to clean your injectors when you replace the filter.
