THIS WILL BE RESERVED FOR BEGINNER E85 QUESTIONS, FOR TUNERS THAT HAVE NEVER HEARD OF RUNNING IT OR HAVEN'T RESEARCHED IT YET. THE ADVANCED E85 THREAD IS HERE FOR THE MORE ADVANCED QUESTIONS ---> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/372386-alternative-fuel-e85-ethanol-corn-gas-e70-advanced-merged.html

HOPEFULLY THIS WILL MAKE THE BASIC E85 INFORMATION MORE CENTRALIZED AND EASIER TO FIND FOR THE DSM'rs WHO ARE JUST GETTING THEIR NOSE WET AND ARE UNSURE OF WHAT E85 IS.

THANKS,

GOFER

Has anyone tryed running E85 in their dsm? Their is a station in my area that sells it and it's not much more than regular gas. It is 85% ethanol and 15% gas and is 110 octane . It could be a cheap alternative to race gas.

Any good E85 tuning at home threads? I am wanting to do this once I get a leak fixed in my new system.

All it really is, is setting the injector adjustments for e85 (its on DSMLink's website for how to do it with DSMLink, not sure where exactly).

Just do the math to see what size injectors you have for e85, because 1000cc injectors are probably more like 500-600cc for E85.

Then once you have the injectors dialed in, just tune it like you would normally. Just make sure you know how to read your wideband for E85 if it doesn't have dual setups you can configurate.

I think this is where you tell steevo to come into play...

Its damn near impossible!

I was reading this earlier today! Something about the Global?

Global on pump gas is -55
Global on E85 is -33

This correct?

Thats kind of close to what i run. I think my pump is 53.X and my e85 is like 32 ish. I have made a table to do all of the calculations for me. I would up load it but for some reason it wont let me.

E85 FTW, Best mod i have ever done. Made it run more smoothly and less knock. However its running 2.69 here so ef that. Ill get good gas millage for the time being. I seen 13-17 on e85 and i usually get 23-26 on 93. Just depends if i have a heavy foot that fill up :hellyeah:

So when I swap in my 1000cc injectors while I still have pump gas in, I need to get on dsmlink and set my global to -55? What happens when I got to fill up with E85?...do i need to hurry up and set my global to -33? and start tuning?

Run the tank down to below 1/4 then put 5+ gallons in from a jug and then tune on that to the gas station where you will fill it all the way

What i did, i waited till i was on Empty so i could just tune for the e85 using the global settings. After that i tune the fuel almost every time i fill up. Thats because the concentrate of ethanol can change. Keep a good eye on your afr's.

How would you guys go about cleaning up the system when it "clogs up" ? Is it true the fuel filter must be replaced somewhat often ?
And it is a must to replace the old fuel lines with new bigger lines ?
This is an interesting subject, i'm pretty interested.

I was also wondering if you have to replace the entire fuel line with larger lines?

Bah, Im on stock lines, stock filter, and stock fpr. And I ran a 12.028. Its said, that it is corrosive to the lines so a lot of people upgrade them. As for it clogging the lines, it may, most of the time it builds up around your injectors. If you run regular gas through it regularly every 4 tanks or so you'll be ok.

As for the afr's, you are looking for the "sweet spot". I found out that in my situation my car likes it when im running 12.0-12.2 anything leaner i start to see a little knock. And anything richer I notice it.

Their re obviously not E-85 pump's everywhere, also can clog injectors. The fuel DOES make great power and tons of people are running it and having great success.

injector clogging is just a region issue. Many people in MO are running it and not having any problems. It's been said that people in michigan and all that up top are having clogging issues with goo at the tips but haven't heard anything else from down here.. anyone care to correct me?

As for fuel set up. There are a lot of people that run stock fuel systems. I have a single 255 pinched and rewired and F.I.C 1150's that's it everything else is stock including the FPR and i am having no problem. As for injectors clogging i just think that it's normal for it to happen since e85 is such a cleaner fuel that it's removing all the gunk in your tank. Just to be on the safe side you can take them out every so often and cheek. If they are clogging up just clean them with some gasoline. You also might want to change your fuel filter after a few tanks of e85 cause i'm sure all the gunk from the tank is building up in there.

And remember not to really tune with by the knock sensor, cause it's easy to get the timing way too high and still not see knock (you'll see a blown head gasket though, or worse).

That doesn't make since at all. Unless your suggesting their knock sensor is bad. That's how you know how much timing to throw at it. You can still knock with e85. It's not like it eliminates it all together.

Um...No. Go ahead and wreck your engine then. If all you tune for is knock, why the heck does anyone ever tune on a dyno? You tune for power, torque, and reliability, not knock alone. At some point, you'll add enough timing to start losing power. IMO a knock sensor is useless on E85. It's possible on many cars to run basically any amount of timing, and any AFR without showing knock. 1g's can be a bit different IMO just because the knock sensing is finicky and overly sensitive on some cars.
