THIS WILL BE RESERVED FOR BEGINNER E85 QUESTIONS, FOR TUNERS THAT HAVE NEVER HEARD OF RUNNING IT OR HAVEN'T RESEARCHED IT YET. THE ADVANCED E85 THREAD IS HERE FOR THE MORE ADVANCED QUESTIONS ---> http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/newbie-forum/372386-alternative-fuel-e85-ethanol-corn-gas-e70-advanced-merged.html

HOPEFULLY THIS WILL MAKE THE BASIC E85 INFORMATION MORE CENTRALIZED AND EASIER TO FIND FOR THE DSM'rs WHO ARE JUST GETTING THEIR NOSE WET AND ARE UNSURE OF WHAT E85 IS.

THANKS,

GOFER

Has anyone tryed running E85 in their dsm? Their is a station in my area that sells it and it's not much more than regular gas. It is 85% ethanol and 15% gas and is 110 octane . It could be a cheap alternative to race gas.

I make way more power on e85 but my gas mileage goes to crap on it. All in all I won't have it any other way, my car is set up with dual maps to go back to 91 but I can't imagine doing it unless forced.

are you DD'ing it? is it a drastic drop or what? I have my mind set on going to e85 just getting a peace of mind what i'm getting into. I'll have a blazer to daily around instead of the dizum

I am not running E85 yet, but i will be very soon :)

Pump gas loves knock

E85+ tune= no knock :)

so i've heard. just needa good tuner. Not going to HTP for this one....maybe

Yeah, I daily drive my car. There is one station within 7 miles of my house that has e85 so it is only a little inconvenient to always get gas there. Usually when coming home from the other way and I have to drive past my house to get gas before coming home.

And my mpg goes from 23 on 91 octane to 16 on e85. But my 91 tune made about 350 AWHP and my e85 tune makes 442 AWHP.

Same situation here! Only E85 station arouind is 8 miles away! what setup do you have with ## E85 now?

I have a re-wired 255, -6 from tank to rail with a fuel lab filter, RC 1200 injectors, and V3 to tune.

The dyno numbers I have and milage I got were with a PTE-5031. I have not tuned in my HX-35 yet but I will as soon as I get my engine back from the machine shop. All else in my profile is current.

Gotcha! Buddy of mine has a HX35 with 1600cc inj. 255 wally, ebay FMIC and ebay exhaust manifold....and tuned himself and put down 508 on e85! All give me high hopes LOL

I am building my 420a megasquirt/turbo to run e-85. I live in South Dakota, we have e-85 at nearly every gas pump and ethanol plants all over the state because of our massive corn supply. Dynotune USA in watertown, SD are huge into ethanol conversions and build some seriously crazy GM LS e-85 cars. But just 45 miles away is CNC performance machine in brookings where i live and the owner there refuses to have anything to do with e-85. I told him i plan on going e-85 whether he is gona help or not and he said his reasoning is that e-85 is a very inconsistent fuel. By that he means that from pump to pump the quality or ratio of ethanol/gasoline can be very different. The pump may say e-85 but you may only be getting 65% ethanol. This means that it is hard to get a correct tune. Has anybody else heard of this??

I havent heard this but it sure does make me think! :(

The ethanol % varies between 70%, and 85%. There is a chart that shows mix by date, and location. It is less alcohol up north to help cold starts in winter months. Here in phoenix, it goes to e78 from late october to march.

I've heard of different pumps having different percentage of ethanol. Nothing i would worry about it though. If you tune to the raged edge then i might see a problem but most people don't tune to the raged edge and tuners always leave you some room to play with. After switching to e-85 my car ran better and just feel's smoother. In my eye's the only con's to it are it lowers your MPG and the initial start up could be pricey.

Here is the link that show's the ethanol percentage from state to state and season.
E85 Mustangs.com - Regional Fuel Chart by state

I also have the zeitrinix ethanol content analyzer in my car so I always know the percentage of ethanol in my fuel. It gives me peace of mind that I won't blow it up.

I too have to fill up my tank at about 240 all the time. I'm not too worried on the gas supply really seeing i won't be daily'ing this. I've read a few other forums on e85. Some say goo gathers up on the injectors but some say that's just a regional thing. I've talked to a few people from STL running e85 and they say that is correct. but it's always best to run a few tanks of e85 then run a tank of pump gas.

I'm good friends with the guys at CNC. They won't touch anything DSM related (or anything not domestic V8 related really ROFL).

For an E-85 tune, go to Excessive motorsports in Sioux Falls. They've done some crazy work with E-85 on DSM's and Evos.

I run e85 in my car and basically dd it with no issues. I only pay like 2.20 a gallon here. I get about 19mpg city and 25mpg highway.. Never knocks. Runs awesome and smells delish :p
