So I know e85 like takes like 33% more fuel but daily driving does anyone have some ruff estimates on mpg I should exspect? Or what kind of mpg you guys are getting on E85? Going to run 1000cc and evo3 16g.

Yes sir...I have the free edition shift box..

I love it..Saves gas, and lets me shift when I want...

But there is a cooler one that's not that pricey..And on that one you can hook up paddle shifters..

FWIW - I can usually get around 29-31 mpg highway on straight gas, and around 23-25 with E85, if I drive conservatively.

In case anyone missed the key words there. :)

I rarely drive conservatively in an effort to save fuel for any great length of time, so I don't "normally" get those nice numbers; I can, but usually don't. I actually log every fill-up, along with the price, type of fuel, mileage, etc. in a handy phone app...but haven't analyzed it in some time.

While DD'ing my car and playing with on-ramps, etc...I'm probably closer to 24-26 highway on pump, and 21-22 on E85.

These are about the same Mpgs I have got over the years on E85/gas depending on my driving habits Not sure what I get hwy on Gas with 1450cc I have now But on my old Pte880s I could almost always get 28-30 mpg if I stayed out of boost....

Im sure aside from the Tune I would assume that the better atomization of the fuel from our larger injectors help being that the Stock 450's are either a single Pintle our dual vs 6-8 of most aftermarket Injectors

Also like The math shows above the end cost depending on prices is aboit the same as long as the price stays in the same $0.90-$1.10 gap it always has been When I fill up $20 I get more fuel but It gets me about the same distance

But in the End who cares Even if it cost more your getting Basically Race Gas for the same end cost of Pump 91-93... .

Even if all the subsidies end an the price goes up its still worth it In my eyes

I have been running E85 for the last couple months in my 2.4 auto. Commuting to/from work 16 miles each way (which can take between 40-45 minutes), I get about 12mpg with some spirited driving when possible. On a long highway trip I got 21mpg.

E85 cost just as much as regular gas here so there is no cost advantage. I was using ~100 gallons per month, at $3.80 per gallon.

I switched back to pump gas a couple days ago so no comparisons yet but it will obviously be better. With winter rain/cold E85 power levels would just get me into trouble. :) So far at 21psi I have no knock on pump..
I use to keep fairly good track of all the stations prices for awhile in the Pnw but havent kept up on it in awhile

But where are you getting your E85? Its only $3.25 here in Longview

Maybe someone could chime in, but would tuning your setup for torque help with the gas mileage? Also on that note more torque would keep you out boost and essentially keep motor pushing better for gas mileage.Correct me if I am wrong.

How are you guys getting such horrible gas mileage... Tune it lean! i was getting 38mpg on 93 and 32 mpg on e85... I was running around 15.7-16.2 afr on my aluminum rod 9:1 engine. 3300 miles on it with these tunes.

Ill be the first to call BS

Sorry,
but please enlighten me on how your achieving this....

Only way I see someone achieving those mpgs in any turbo car close to ours is with some of the newer Direct port cylinder fuel injection systems or GDI..... IE NOT A 4G63

You should always tune for best torque, except for areas where you need to keep some in reserve for instantaneous demands (i.e. idle - to compensate for A/C, PS pump, etc.) and at WOT, where you are knock-limited.

I find 38mpg on gas a bit hard to believe, unless it was a really flat, long road. While running a lean mix does help some, you get to a point fairly quickly where you actually hurt mileage due to lower power output, not to mention nitrogen emissions rapidly start to increase.

And since E85 has less potential energy per unit than gasoline, running at leaner mixtures where octane isn't a factor doesn't gain as much as one would expect. As torque drops off, the natural tendency is to give more throttle input, causing fuel usage to increase.

That or a nice nice long downhill grade they measure the mpg driving only down hill on

Reminds me of a claim some auto manufacture tried awhile back say they made some unbelievable mpg then it turned out the drive was from like Flagstaff Az down to phoenix

it says i live in pa... do you think all the roads are flat and straight? because i havent seen maybe that are flat or straight.

I just told you, build an engine that makes some power and never has to see boost... the car weighed nothing. i daily drove it, it was my only car. No heat/no ac/ no wipers or wiper assembly/motor... the car weighed 2350 easy... it had 2 seats and a steering wheel.

car made 324awhp on the 14b at 27psi spiking 31 on the stock sidemount... 371 tq

This isnt news, its all in the 14b thread..

Hmmmm

Dont know about anyone else but If my Awd 1g weighed in at any where under 2500lbs I would be measuring my gallons fuel used per 1320 feet LOL

In the mean time Ill just enjoy the comforts of another 7-800 lbs ? gets me an take my mpg as it is...

Anyway back on topic :)

I'm really surprised on how many members run E85.
I use the 10% ethanol (89 octane) in my Expedition since it's cheaper than the regular gas (87 octane). Use 91 octane for the cars.

38 mpg in a 1991 Talon TsiAWD? I could rip off a 1000 pounds from my Talon and I would still not get that much of an improvement from my current 24 mpg.

On January 14, 2008, General Motors announced a partnership with Coskata, Inc. The goal is to produce cellulosic ethanol cheaply, with an eventual goal of US$1 per US gallon for the fuel. The partnership plans to begin producing the fuel in large quantity by the end of 2008. In June 2009, this goal is still ahead of the firm. By 2011 a full-scale plant will come on line, capable of producing 50 million US gallons to 100 million US gallons of ethanol a year.
I think we as a country are way ahead of that.

Ethanol as a fuel reduces harmful tailpipe emissions of carbon monoxide, particulate matter, oxides of nitrogen, and other ozone-forming pollutants
E85 ethanol blend, and that using cellulosic ethanol lowers emissions 64%.
That is a great news.

My best fuel mileage was this year going to shootout. Added some cruising timing and was running 16afr's. With the extended 5th gear at 75mph I got 27mpg on the way to shootout.

My average all city e85 is only around 15mpg which really isn't any worse then the 16-17 I get with gas.
