I know I’ve commented before on my e85 switch, and I’ll say it again, it’s a night and day difference. I was on an evo 3 16g and the car was a blast LOL. I went from a safe 20psi on pump to maybe 30-32ish maybe on e85, but I threw gobs of timing at it while still on a 2g maf and the car loved it, it was a whole different animal:hellyeah:

How much timing? Yes.

Lol seriously, I put 42 psi through one of those gaskets and it didn't push that much.

I put 51 psi on a 67mm through my OEM composite gasket quite a few times. And it went but not anything near that either.

I am nowhere near yalls level but even on the internet I don’t think I’ve seen a HG blown so badly. I am amazed the HG let go instead of these stock non turbo pistons. I am gonna try to get the hg off in mostly one piece and hang it up on my wall. LOL

The PO said it has a built bottom end? I guess someone actually believed that and SENT IT.

Yeah. I’m not sure he knew any better. He never had the car actually run. He bought it from a friend who wanted to junk yard the car. So he was just repeating what he was told.

I do believe the guy who had the car 100% believed it and sent it though. Lol.

Only thing I've seen worse than that are dropped valves and broken rods. This takes the absolute cake as far as just blown head gaskets go for sure.

My walking germ sponge(daughter) has spread her viral love(sickness) to my wife and I so not much progress is gonna be made.

However, I did pull the wiper arms off the parts talon and discovered it had a mint gas cap on it with the anchor still intact. So I cleaned it up and hit it with some VRP. Turned out awesome.

I’ll clean the gas cap area soon don’t worry, but man it looks good there.

Also: this car is a parts gold mine. The hatch is leak free and completely rust free. I’ll be swapping the two hatches soon. I want that wiper assembly and rust free hatch.

But yeah. That’s all for now. I work fri-Sun this week and Saturday’s my birthday. So not sure when I’ll have time or weather permitting any work on the car. But when I do, y’all will know. :) Appreciate all of ya.

It’s my birthday today. 🎉 yay. I’m working and still sick but have a good feeling about this weekend coming up getting the car back on the road. Got my tie rod tool in today along with the boots.

Really could use some extra cash too so peep my for sale ads or if you think of any 90 specific parts you might need hit me up.

Congrats on another successful trip around the sun 🥳🥳🥳

Happy Birthday Cory. 🎂
Today is my oldest sons birthday too! He turned 32, LOL.

Thanks fellas, it means a lot. I actually ended up being surprised by my job with a paid day off today, so that was pretty spectacular. I adore this new county I'm working for.

Happy Birthday Cory. 🎂

That is hilarious. I'm 36 today officially, so I could feasibly be your son.

So uh, pops...can I inherit one of your auto 1Gs? :D

Ya never know 🤔😁

Alright. Don't feel like I'm dying quite as bad so I got my butt in gear and did some work today.

First up: the dreaded inner tie rods and front suspension basically.

IMG_7627.jpeg

It's so tight and new, man. Huge improvement. I measured the old complete tie-rod assembly and made these identical. The castle nut thing on the outer tie rod completely throws me off though. It's nowhere near that castle nut, and the parts car I have doesn't have a washer or any way to space it up. I marked it and I'm gonna keep an eye on it. If I have to, I'll stack washers under it until it reaches. Anyway!

After that, which was a struggle because I don't have a lift and I have a barrel chest so crawling under the car is a pain. However, I got the new boots on and got everything torqued to spec. Time for the calipers and the rotors, let's make this a complete rolling chassis again!

IMG_7629.jpeg

That's more like it. Also: peep the washer behind the axle nut spacing it out perfectly! At this point, I decided to pivot, and do something I've been needing and wanting to do for months now. I've had the box, but just never got around to installing it. So, I did. :D

IMG_7632.jpeg

Sound deadening mat, baby! This process wasn't bad at all, but man that floor was dirty. I had to vacuum it, wipe it down, spray it with soapy water, wipe it down again, and then finally it was acceptable. Laying the mat down was easy, and I used the end of a screwdriver as a make shift ghetto roller. Cutting out the hole for the sending unit was fun but arduous, but now officially every hole in the rear floor is covered, and the trunk floor is solidly 80% covered. It already makes a huge difference just tapping around the floor.

At this point I was tired, and needed to nap so I could preserve my night shift sleep schedule. But, I was determined. Day or night, I'm test driving this car today. So after a solid few hours of sleep, I got up and did work.

IMG_7635.jpeg

Boom. Tires on, lugs torqued, car lowered down, battery hooked back up (there's a slow drain, so I've been unhooking it, and if the car sits for more than a day, I keep a battery tender on it) and ready to start.

Turn the key...she fired right up. She's tired of sitting too. Let it get up to operating temp, and man...I can already feel a difference. I might be crazy but I swear I feel the rolling resistance from the new front wheel bearings, but more so I feel how tight the steering and handling is now. It's so stable while cornering now where before it liked to wander. I swear it seems less bouncy on bumps too. The loud howling is gone. I still hear some differential noise when accelerating or decelerating, but it's always been this way. I have two spare diffs so if this one blows up, oh well. :p

Overall, extremely happy. I hated having the car down this long, but this has all needed to happen for so long. Next step will be to get an alignment done on the car, but man I'd really like the volk adjustable rear control arms before I do that so it can be fully dialed in. But either way...stoked! Back to the rips and the tuning. Still needs some tweaks there.

Appreciate everybody.

Now I'm back to my former predicament. Wanting to drive the car, but not knowing where to go. I'm not good at "cruising" aimlessly. Lol.

So like...what do you guys do when you go cruising? Do you legitimately just aimlessly drive all over town, or is there a destination and goal in mind? I am incapable of just hopping in the car and driving somewhere with no goal in mind.

Tie rod boots came today. I work until Friday and this weekend is busy but hopefully I can still knock out the work.

List is:

Paint front + rear calipers
Swap rear calipers to new ones.
Assemble rear brakes + bleed brakes
Install front tie rods(inner and outer, both sides)
Recheck torque specs.
Assemble front brakes
Install washer behind CV axle nuts. Torque to spec.
Reinstall wheels.

Install new dipstick. Curse a lot.
Dynamat trunk floor.
Remove ignition lock cylinder housing
Install new lock cylinder housing
Swap hatch from parts talon on to new talon. Install all rear wiper related things.

Lower car.
Drive it, cross fingers and hope sound is gone and I didn’t screw anything up.

Crossed off what I got done today. Only a few things remaining. Completely forgot about the dipstick and the new lock cylinder housing. Lol. I made a conscious decision not to swap hatches yet though, gonna do that this weekend. I'm excited to have all the rear wiper stuff. Love the functionality of it. Just hoping at this point the wiring for it still works and wasn't cut, and that the switch functions.

One step at a time, she's slowly being restored.

Updated list:

Paint front + rear calipers (Probably going to wait on this one, IDK. Low priority unless someone convinces me otherwise.)
Install new dipstick. Curse a lot. (High Priority)
Remove ignition lock cylinder housing
Install new lock cylinder housing
Swap hatch from parts talon on to new talon. Install all rear wiper related things. (High Priority)
Paint Wiper Arms from Parts Talon/Install on AMS Talon.
Paint Wiper Cowl on Parts Talon/Install on AMS Talon.
Make logs, adjust tune, tweak as needed. Possibly even work on new tune from scratch. (Highest Priority)

That's it for now.

Where I live there's so many backroads that take you anywhere. I just hop in and drive until I almost have no gas or it gets to dark. I have roads I used to drive in high-school in my non turbo eclipse so I try to continue that, and man does it always bring me back.

Glad to see you better and finishing things up!

1. Ive got about 6 cruisin' streets that Ive had since high school where I know that I can run into other cars or people having small meets in a parking lot. 2 of them i rarely take anymore because the City of Chicago likes to leave Eclipse-sized potholes unpatched for years.

2. If i have to go to the grocery store, Auto Zone 🤮, Menards/Home Depot for something...or even just a completely different place to grab some tacos, I drive to one in Indiana or western/southwest 'burbs. Its way out of the way, but it takes a 10 minute drive on the highway to get there and then like half an hour to get back using the backroads that are pretty winding with little/no traffic, goes through an unincorporated areas so rarely any cops to look out for and long straightways. Usual routine stuff, but just traveling to a further location to get the drive in

If/when you get to the brake caliper painting, I suggest the DupliColor Kit. It will do at least 8 Calipers or more and it flows out very smooth and shiney. They have a variety of colors also. Love the dedication to the car!

Thanks guys, I guess the problem here is there’s so many new developments that there is no unused or low traffic roads anywhere near me. But I’ll think on it more. I wanna drive this car, man.

Thanks pops! I actually am planning to get that kit exactly. :) I’ve heard really good things about it and I like how I don’t really need to remove or mask anything if I’m careful.

Cory, my 5 year old Grandson helped me paint the Calipers on the rear of my Red Talon. It's just like you said, easy to control because you have a brush and the stuff is thick so it flows out nice and smooth! When you get there. :thumb:

Drove the Talon to work today. Seems like the noise is gone but I had the windows down so it’s hard to tell. She did amazing though man. It just cruises. The fuel map at highway speeds needs work though for sure.

But, it was a solid 45 minute drive at highway speeds and it took it like a champ. I really don’t doubt this car could make it cross country. Maybe to Ohio and back. :D

My view on the way home today.

IMG_7644.jpeg

Car did so great man. I’m so proud of it. I have no doubt this car could do a cross country trip now. Not a single issue. I’m happy for sure.

Also: since it was cool enough to drive with the windows up, I can confirm the noise is completely gone. Only tire noise from the road now. And god this car handles great. It makes on and off ramps its beeyotch. Lol.

Currently in the process of plasti-dipping the wiper arms off the parts Talon, because the rear wiper blade came in today. Gonna swap hatches or try to swap hatches tomorrow because I want a working rear wiper assembly, and funny enough the rear hatch on the parts Talon doesn't leak. Everyone claims they delete the rear wiper assembly to prevent leaks but the one on the AMS Talon that's deleted is nothing but pinhole leaks everywhere. The one with the assembly is sealed tight as a drum.

But yeah, here's hoping I can throw it on, plug it in, and it works.

Also: I'm having a weird problem. After a little while of driving the Talon, the cooling fans will stop working. Even if I turn the A/C switch on, they won't come on. However...if I turn the car off, and back on again(while rolling I'll cycle the key and clutch pop it to restart the engine), then they work.

Uh. What? Any ideas why this could be? @steve , can I bother you brother and pick your electrical expert brain?

Check the wires on the plug... i had a similar issue and diagnosed by jumping the sensor plug.

In my case the pins in the plug were expanding with heat and losing contact.
