Here is what you do, like @enriquez2000 said, drive them to have some fun and have a good reliable DD. :thumb:

This.

Im around Chicago, so the fun times can be very limiting from year to year. Roads get heavily salted so I usually only get a guarantee of about May to November and then along with my job demanding a lot of my time, knock that down to weekends and vacations. Luckily i ended up with a girl that also likes to cruise, so that i never had to have any battles to get time behind the wheel.

But every time I turn the key, its the same instant smile on my face since the day I was car shopping with my mom at a Mazda lot back in 1992 when I was 14, came across a 1G for the first time and the salesman let me sit in car and start it. Its always my Eleanor moment.

and every time i go across the border to the Indiana car meets, theres no less than 5 people waiting for me to get out of the car so they can talk about it, whether its to tell me hey are surprised to see a running DSM or relive their own memories of owning one. So theres the social aspect that the car gives me too.

Im just going to throw this out there cause it does happen to me sometimes.... Are you scared to drive the car? Meaning, that you put so much work into getting it running.. and now that its in a managable state, theres a little bit of paranoia that something else will break and you would just not be able to mentally handle hiccup right now...so you find yourself avoiding?

Not scared to drive the car, just kind of dread new things popping up. I also don’t want to have to fight to keep it alive. Like if it dies at a stoplight it’s so embarrassing being stuck there waiting for it to restart.

Now that I think about it that may be the main thing that holds me back is how hard I have to concentrate on keeping it from dying. If it would just immediately restart it wouldn’t bug me but man. It’s a bear to get this thing restarted.

Guess I need to get off my ass and redo the tune properly so that issue is gone.

This came in today. Yaaay.

I actually was trying to find the older model of TruBoost but all I could honestly find was the TruBoostX. Ah well. I'm gonna just plan on this thing not lasting, so I'm gonna keep the AEM Digital boost gauge I have in reserve. So when this thing dies, I'll swap back to the boost gauge and use the MAC valve from AEM and have ECMLink control the boost. I'll enjoy it until it dies though! The recall function that shows peak boost will be nice.

Also: I swear I don't know why I bother trying to sell parts anywhere but here. Every single time I put it on facebook people ignore the plain text in the ad either on purpose, or because they're all water-heads and then I put it on DSMTuners like an afterthought, and it sells immediately without hassle. Old Hallman Evo RX is going to a good home/member here.

I am trying my best to resist light-heartedly roasting the member who bought it though. Peak irony!

Fb marketplace is a joke... ive posted rare e30 parts and get told its not worth anything when Ive seen them sell for more. Makes me want to post videos of me torching the parts or dropping them off at the dump.

So true. I honestly don't know why I keep posting things FS there.

Man, I miss my snow queen. 80mph in the snow and that thing refused to slide. 😅
Yah drove mine like it was a ski-doo in Maine. At least the first one I did. This one never got the chance much. She’ll have a much tamer future.

Decent progress today. Wanted to do some wiring today and I got to work early. First up was cutting off the old 2G MAF plug and wiring that was crusty and old. I can't even guess how old the wiring was, or when it was soldered but yeah. If I grabbed it and twisted it, ECMLink would register the MAP Sensor coming unplugged. Oof. So, I cut it all off, and resoldered on an OEM 1G MAF plug that was clean AF with some soft/supple wire. I finished it by using some double wall marine grade 3:1 adhesive lined heatshrink, and used the OEM corrugated tubing with some 3M 33+ electrical tape on the ends and over the soldered area.

Love it. So much better. From there I clicked in the ECMTuning Speed Density harness and wrapped that up.

Next up was installing the AEM Tru-BoostX. This was to put it lightly...an "ordeal". In the past install I did, I routed the wires for all the gauges fairly okay, but I lost patience towards the end of the install and just put some wherever they'd fit. This time around, I took off the entire a-pillar trim and tweeter cover and re-ran/cleaned up the wires even more. The end product was much less wiring, and it's all ran through a hole in the OEM a-pillar trim, underneath the A-pillar pod. Looks like factory, and I'm very pleased. The wiring harness for the Tru-BoostX is super long so I actually could run the solenoid wires from the harness all the way to the engine bay without adding any extra wire. Still...this took forever, man. Curse my OCD.

And you can't even tell where I added the solenoid and ran the extra wires. I'm proud of this.

Lastly, kind of boring but I ended up getting tired of the shift knob I had. It would loosen because it can't be screwed in, and otherwise just kind of jank. I'm not giving up on it, but for now I'm going back to the heavy AF weighted leather knob I got. I also cleaned up the shift boot and the knob itself, and gave it some leather dressing. It's not wet in this picture, or oily to the touch. It's just that dry and shiny.

I could've taken a Q-Tip and really gotten in down to the numbers, but eh. Maybe later.

Either way, super happy. Test drive was successful, and no matter how much I twist the wiring, poke it, prod it, lick it do other stuff to it, no issues with readouts or readings. The Tru-BoostX also reads boost WAY faster than the old boost gauge, and actually reads in between 4 and 6. Lol. The old AEM Classic gauge just read either 4 or 6. Never in between. This one will actually read the exact number including decimals/half numbers. Like -5.68. Very happy.

I may legitimately upgrade the classic water temp gauge to the X series temp gauge because I like it so much, but honestly...I'm hesitant to have to mess with the gauges wiring AGAIN.

Anyway. Good stuff.

God I adore the noises this thing makes. It takes work and hair on your chest to drive this thing without letting it die, but it's so enjoyable when it's cool out and there's no one in front of you. For some reason though my windshield is staying perpetually dirty. Florida problems, I guess. :p

But yeah. Swear one of these days I need to capture the turbo noises. But with a manual trans, trying to keep it on the road, and trying to keep it from dying...no clue how I'd manage that. Might just put my phone on a little phone holder and record the hood. Lol. No idea how I'd get an in car view.

But yeah, it made it to the store and back with almost no issues. Still hard to restart, but that's not a new problem. 100% tune related. So I'm gonna drive it to work tomorrow and Thursday probably unless I change my mind. It needs 500 miles so I can do an AWD launch.

Have you tried making any of the changes we discussed?

No. I can't remember what changes we discussed but I haven't done anything to the car. This was the first time being able to touch it and do stuff. Tune stuff comes next. :D Can you remind a senile old man what changes you mean? (full disclosure I 100% mean to completely restart on the tune from scratch, not sure if that factors or not)

The turbo noises are the best. I got my wife to ride with me finally (she hates and is scared of my car LOL) and she made a video for me. I love the way mine sounds. Still dialing in but still fun.

Can you upload a log? I don’t feel like going through the thread to look for one LOL And are you back on sd? I don’t remember

I’m personally using stock 1G min/max octane timing and fuel maps. You can get them from ecmtuning. This helped an idle surge issue I was having at cold start
IMG_5044.jpeg

I would put the sd map back to stock and start over. Cells at idle should be upper 30s lower 40s don’t lower them to get airflowperrev to .25 like the how to suggests. That’s probably for stock cams your car will act up (ask me how I know)

For fuel I used the injbattadjust from fic and adjusted the global until stft was hovering around 0. Seems to be working well for me so far. Car runs great

Make sure your tps and isc are adjusted correctly. I have my target idle at 950, hot start enrichment enabled, and don’t have the fuel pump prime with key on

Innovate wideband sensor died today. Less than 300 driven miles, and less than 6 months old. It’s like 18” from the turbo, not mounted improperly.

I’m ordering another sensor and if this one doesn’t last then I’m selling this pos and switching to the AEM Series X.

Never heard anything good about the innovates. Recently it's AEM series x or bust.

Makes me sad. I really don’t wanna have to rewire the gauges AGAIN. Lol.

If I switch to the aem wideband I’m gonna say screw it and just swing for the x series water temp gauge too so they all match.

Screw it, I just went ahead and bought both. Not gonna keep messing with replacing the sensors. We’ll see what happens with the X series stuff. At least it’ll all match now. Woot.

Are you using a relay to power it?

No.

No.
Somewhere in this forum I talked about how daily driving with my innovate mtxl killed sensors every 3 days. I dont know why everyone thinks they are the bees knees but I switched to cheapy prosport and never had another issue.
