I get so used to saying "down" because damn near everyone on this forum is farther North of me. Florida is an exception though. Send me a message when you're in the area. If it's a junk yard perusing day I'll take a break and go to Bryan's place.Fixed it for you.
But that's a good idea. I'll bring a little extra cash. I don't have too giant of a budget though sadly. However we'll see what he's got. You anywhere near him and wanna meet up too?
That really blows. He should know how to talk directly with people. I have never been treated this way by him before. I'm almost sorry for giving you the lead but I genuinely thought there would be a smooth transaction.

Unless you're talking needle bearings you don't need to disassemble. All of the roller and ball bearings will be visible. If you've got one that's bad you'll know it. Hand tools only and you can have the trans apart in 30 min. If you happen to have a junk clutch disk around cut it up, take the splines part to a muffler shop or equivalent and have it welded to a cheap impact socket. I did it years ago for about 5 bucks. Thanks fellas. I’m still gonna disassemble the trans because I need to helicoil a few threads, so pictures will still be posted of the trans internals. I’m not disassembling the gear stacks to look at bearings though because I don’t have a press. Everything else will be here though!
One weird thing though, I was going through videos of the transmission sound, and when I revved the engine, the sound didn’t increase or get louder. Honestly it sounded like it kinda went away, then came back as RPMs dropped. If it’s a bearing or internal trans problem I’d think it’d get louder or faster when you revved it. Again, copium? We’ll find out.

people say don't but I take them off with an impact and put them back on with the custom socket. Is that to hold the shafts while I remove the nut on 5th gear?
Not gonna lie I was tempted to do that and just spin the trans with an impact fast as it’ll go and see if it makes noise.

On the spin the trans thing you shouldn't need an impact. A drill would probably do it. Neutral you can spin by hand.
If the transmission didn't have the fluid, it probably didn't have the fluid transfer (friction/dragging) to spin in neutral.when I revved the engine, the sound didn’t increase or get louder.
What's the Jack's ultimate ratio? I don't see it on their website.
Why not just put fluid in the trans and drive it? The noise may go away, this problem may just fix itself.
Since it's already down you have nothing to lose taking it apart for inspectionI put fluid in it before and the noise didn’t go away. That’s why I dropped the trans and changed all the old clutch stuff. The TOB was a POS, and the clutch was rusty and ancient.
But, that’s now the plan! Gonna stab it back in and drive this SOB.
Something to remember to is this thing sat for who knows how long all freshly put together before you started it for the first time. Things are going to make noise and be goofy a bit just from lack of use until you drive it and limber everything up. I’m with staple, don’t over think it, put the trans back in the car fill it and run it some and see what happens. Could confirm it is indeed hurt, but could just as easily confirm that it’s absolutely fine with just a little time invested.
Why not just send it out for a rebuild? It's only a couple grand and you get it back basically new. You're down with driving 8 hours for a mystery gearbox for 500, I saw you put deposit down on the experimental Australian gears that are 2 years out that costs more than a rebuild, but now you're here pulling this apart. 200 bucks on an exhaust manifold last week after I just pointed out all the effery a page ago in this thread. The battles you pick are bizarre to me. The project is not moving forward no pun intended.
I'm also genuinely curious about the Jack's ultimate ratio. I remember TRE 20 years ago had a close ratio gearbox where 5th topped out at like 100mph and I have been absolutely fascinated with it ever since. That's why I ask about it.
Again, I'm on your side dude.
