9!'clipseDOHC's 1g DSM build

I bought this car in 2003 and have been working on, driving, and racing it ever since.

On the eclipse you should wire in a kill switch for the wipers that way you can flip it then use the wipers in the rain as I seen them on a lot in the vid. LOL But if your gonna make it a strictly drag car then I guess the wipers will be on there way out soon. LOL And at the very end of the vid isnt it supposed to say LIVE life? Instead of life life? Cool vid tho :thumb:
Lol, yeah the wipers are already gone. Oh, I didn't notice that typo! Dang it! Yes, it is supposed to be "Live life, Pass it on."

I was gonna say I never heard of anyone saying "life life" before. LOL Nice work on the build journal of the car as well. It was a great read!
Thanks man!

Great video man. Looks like wheel hop got the best of that axle. Get a fix for that??
I have since had solid metal motor mounts made for the front and rear mounts as well as ditched the drag radials. We will see next time I go to the track. I'm also considering having custom traction bars made like the FWD Hondas do.

What mounts where in there at the time?? I looked at traction bars for our cars and it's hard to do with the way our cars designed. I can tell you that with all front bushings done and good motor mounts wheel hop can be eliminated. At least I haven't encountered it over several setups.

At the time i was running all 4 prothane motor mounts. I also have all the suspension bushing replaced.

Hmmm weird that it still wheel hops. What suspension are you running up front? I never had any issues with my 17" drag radials causing wheel hop. Even down to 16psi of pressure.

Suspension is ~8 year old AGX's and Eibach Pro's. Front set to soft, rear set to full stiff. Tires were Hoosiers DOT DR's with psi anywhere from 16-20, experimenting at different pressures. I really don't know why it hopped so bad.

What rpm are you launching at? Track Prep? VHT?

An old friend designed a set for the Sentra/200 SX SE-R that worked well because those guys snap axles like they were made of balsa wood. They were aluminum tube with heim joints that mounted to the center area of the control arm and then back at a location on the subframe.

Maybe try heading toward stiff in the front as well...

On the drag radials I was launching at 3000-3500 or so and slipping the clutch, just running wastegate pressure. The axle snapped on the burnout though. On that day I can't recal if there was any VHT but probably not.

I can try going stiffer in the front. I've never experimented with different settings on the shocks, I've just always set them firm in the rear and soft up front.

I talked to a local fab shop about custom making some traction bars. The guy has a tube frame Honda he races at national events. He said he should be able to make something up but I haven't taken the car in yet.

Yesterday I decided to remove the automatic seat belts and start tackling the interior wiring harness. I got a lot more of the harness done today. Basically I am removing every wire, from pin to pin, that went into the doors, to the seat belts, to the radio/speakers, to the AC/HVAC system, front and rear wipers, etc. It is a mess right now but it has to get worse before it can get better.

After the wiring is done I am going to finish stripping out the last bits of the sound deadening from below the center console and behind the dash areas, prep it for paint and spay all of the interior white, and by then I should have my summit race seat and 5 point harness to reinstall. As of right now I will be reinstalling the front carpet, center console, and my lightened dash.

Removing the old plastic wire loom and that yellow plastic wrap sucks, the interior harness shouldn't be as bad because it's not exposed to the elements but it's still over 20yrs old. Are you doing it with it still installed on the car or are you pulling it too?

Looks like fun though Nate! Don't forget to weigh everything. :)

:dsm:

Ok, cool. Awesome that local guy can help out. I have yet to do my harnesses. Well I finished the guage cluster harness. Jealous of all the work you're getting done!

Gotta step up to run in the 14B world these days, especially to keep up with these aluminum rodded meth ran cars.

It's partially removed. I have room to work on it but I'm not pulling it all of the way out. The pile of wires is growing and I will weigh it when I'm done.

Thanks Phil!

Haha, true that. Hey I'm going to be up in your neck of the desert next month with the Dustball Rally and I'll be spending a few days in Vegas and surrounding area afterwards.

Is that a short throw shifter I spy there as well? Do you have any sort of stopper on it?

That's closer than where your located. But it's still like 450miles away from me. When is the rally??
I guess I should look at a map, I thought it was closer, LOL! We leave El Paso on the 21st and arrive in Vegas on the 23rd via an undisclosed route.

Good eye, it's a Fidanza short throw shifter I installed many, many years ago.

LOL:D

Yeah, because they've proven to be quick........in theory, which easily overrides driving the car down the strip and collecting a timeslip with realtime data

Really nice work! You too Justin, If I hadn't said. I hope to have something to contribute soon.

Don't mean to steer this off topic, but do you have any sort of stopper on that thing? I ran a fidanza like that years ago until I overextended a few shifts and trashed 2 transmissions by breaking shift forks due to having no stopper. Just a thought! I'd hate to see anyone else go through what I did.

Sounds like a lot of fun. Little to far for me to make a trip to check it out.

Only time will tell on that one.

Thank you again. You really havent said anything lately but I see you've been following along my build so that says enough. Ya by the end of the year hopefully.

Really nice work!
Thanks again Phil! And this is the dirty messy stuff, just wait 'til I paint the interior :D

No, I just installed it as it came. I've had it on there for a good 8 or 9 years, daily driving, drag racing, autoxing, and road course racing. So far no issues. Here is a close up picture:

No, of course. Like I said, I thought they were closer, LOL.

Well I finished up the wiring today and got started taping everything off to paint the interior.

Here is the box o' crap. It's 11.6 pounds total with 5 pounds of that being just wires. The rest is the remaining sound deadening from under the center console, old electrical tape, and several little control boxes from under the dash.

I also was planning on deep cleaning the carpet and reinstalling it but now my wife is trying to talk me out of putting it back in. I'm going to have to do some thinking. Sure it will weigh less and will still look nice with the fresh paint but I was planning on carpet and console. :hmm:

On a separate note, what do you guys think would be a good price for a used Kirkey Economy seat with cover? There is a semi-local guy selling one but I think its still a little high. I want to see y'alls thoughts. Otherwise I'll just get the Summit one.
