I know that removing them has their purposes but I only removed one on my previous block, if I remember correctly, as having at least one reduces the vibrations caused by the rotating assembly. For those of us using, or planning to use, solid motor mounts this can be a big supporting factor.

Update: So finally sat down, licked my wounds and pulled the block again. I Disassembled everything and started the deep cleaning process. I smoothed out the oil passages a little more and gave the cylinder bores a quick hone. After that thoroughly cleaned every crevice of this block. Instead of coffee filters , I ordered some lab grade lint free disposable cloths.

Next I started prepping the new piston rings, check out the custom Harbor Freight piston ring grinder. I installed the piston rings and proceeded to assemble the short block.

I ordered an Evospec underdrive water pump pulley awhile ago and decided to prep for the install. I had an old cracked timing cover that I decided to use for the template. I have version 3 of this pulley so it requires trimming of the timing cover and motor mount bracket. You also have to get a longer belt.

Finally finished up the short block and installed it in the bay. Next on the list is to finish cleaning up the trans and giving the cylinder head a deep cleaning.

So I finally got the trans cleaned up and ready for reinstall. All of the trans case bolts were really crusty so I replaced them with some new hardware. So I normally don’t do reviews but the Boost Fabrications transmission mounting bracket is a must have for any toolbox. I literally had the trans mounted in 30 minutes.

Dude. That sucks. When I rebuilt mine at 113k the balance shaft bearing was NOT in good shape. Luckily it hadn't spun and I deleted that bastard.

Shouldn't be too bad to get it back up and going again. Your ride is so sick. Definitely an inspiration!

Well I think I found the source of the noise , looks like I spun a balance shaft bearing. Found a nice surprise in my oil pan. Lol. Well I’m definitely a believer of a bs delete now. Suggestions on what my next course of action should be? I have a month to get the car back up.

Do you mean this one? https://www.boostedfabrication.com/collections/2g-dsm/products/dsm-auto-transmission-lifting-hook It is definitely the only way to go removing and installing the auto trans in a DSM. I have a transmission jack too, and it isn't even close.

Awesome build too! That is one of the shiniest dsm trans I think I've ever seen.

Wow they do make one ill be ordering it right now thank you! I've used a regular jack to install mine 3 times and it absolutely sucks.

Yeah honestly, I’m glad this happened here instead of the shootout. Hopefully I can get the first start today, I wanted to hit up a Car’s and Coffee tomorrow.

Yeah I didn’t expect it to look like aluminum foil . I used the Seymour MRO aluminum paint.

Update: I had my favorite powder coater coat some bits for me. As usual, Detective coating does fine work. Now it’s time to get this thing back together. I Installed everything back to its full glory and is preparing for first start today or tomorrow.

Update time: So I finally did get that first start going, and I ran into a nasty vacuum leak problem. Every time I push the clutch in on decel, it would stall out. Also it developed an irritating oil leak around the oil pump area. I said screw it and threw it on the trailer to take it to a 4th of July car show. Even though she wasn’t running right , I still took home “Top 25”., was definitely an honor since there was 150 car entries.

So I got it back home and decided to rip it apart, reseal everything and track down this stalling issue. I ordered every silicone gasket AO-Customs offered and went to work. His oil pan gasket is top notch and I would definitely recommend. Got everything on the oil pump side sealed up and no leaks as of today. Also I think I tracked down the part of the stalling issue. It seems the s90 throttle body adjustment screw had backed out causing the throttle plate to completely close on decel. That and the lightened flywheel definitely contributed to the stalling.
So my Wilwood brake reservoir was starting to yellow, so I opted for a billet reservoir from Finishing Lines. This piece cleaned up things nicely

Next on the list, was swapping out my oem radiator fans. Although they work exceptional for 30 year old fans, I wanted to see if I could find an equivalent.
After countless research , I settled on the PROFORM 12” brushless fans. Good thing about these , it’s numerous YouTube videos out there testing this fan. Let me say this, this fan moves some serious air cfm, when they turn on it sounds like an airplane ready to take off. Also it has a soft start feature that’s easy on the electrical system. It cools down my car just like the oem fans did so I’m satisfied.

As of today I’m just doing some cruise tuning and working the remaining bugs before the shootout. The scramble has started

So my Jay racing alternator tensioner was starting to show some age / weakening. I did a pull and the alternator belt lost all its tensioning. I swapped it out with a stainless steel unit off amazon. Should work fine in this capacity.

Yeah it’s pretty beefy, compared to the Jay racing. I could tell the aluminum was starting to fatigue.

I know Volk uses them for suspension parts, but apparently teflon (PTFE) can withstand temps upward of 260C (500F). The Jay set probably had something similar and the coating wore off due to age.

Not bad for 15, will definitely look into that myself - good find. Especially made of of steel.
