9!'clipseDOHC's 1g DSM build

I bought this car in 2003 and have been working on, driving, and racing it ever since.

I'd probably pay $150 for the cover and seat if the cover wasn't sharted in and didn't have too much wear. How much is he asking?

:dsm:
He was asking $150 but I got him down to $125. Brand new the combo is $190. However I can get the Summit seat and the cover for $72 brand new. Is the Kirkey that much better? Keep in mind its the economy seat, not the pro.

Put carpet back in if you want the nicer look. It'll match your fancy door panels. If theres no carpet might as well have no panels.
Good point! Guess I've got get to cleaning!

I spent the morning prepping for paint. Everything is wrapped up but I've got to go to work now. Tomorrow I'm off so I will drill out those last two brackets for the rear seats, clean everything really well, and hopefully get it all painted.

Just a quick update, I painted the interior yesterday and am in the process of putting it all back together today.

Also I decided to dye my carpet black like in this tech article: http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-exterior-interior/395839-dying-your-carpet-rit-dye.html. I got the 30 gallon tote for $6 at Walmart and with the 6 bottles of black dye it came out to a total of $25. I'll let you guys know how it turns out.

Also I've pretty much decided that I'm just going to go with the pair of Summit Racing seats and 5 point harnesses as I was originally planning.

Yeah that came out super nice! Something about white:D

Man the paint turned out so good now you gotta leave it haha. Maybe just put in some floor mats.
Haha, thanks Justin! Depends on how the carpet turns out.

Thanks Phil! White is my favorite vehicle color. When I bought my Evo I really wanted it in wicked white but found a deal on my Tarmac black one.

I was going to do black. Im not so sure after seeing this.

What kind of paint did you use Nathan??
It's Rustolium ultra coverage semi-gloss white. It's super cheap, less then $4 a can. I used 8 cans, probably could have used another one or two for under the carpet area but I didn't really care since I'm using the carpet anyway.

very inspiring thread sir
Thanks so much!

Yeah, white is awesome. I can't believe I traded my white '04 EVO RS in with only 953 miles on the clock. Granted I drove away in an '05 Electric blue SSL, but that got old fast. Oh well!

You got rid of it with less then a 1000 miles?!?!? Do you still own an Evo?

Here is the finished interior for now. I'm just missing my Summit Racing seat with an all black cover and G-Force 5-point harness in red (which I haven't even been able to order just yet).

I like how much you cut out from the rear..:thumb:

Seat and harness are installed! I received them yesterday and immediately got to work on the install. I decided to use a portion of the original stock seat brackets so I got to work drilling them apart to remove the slider portion. I then used some 3/16" thick by 1" wide steel bar to make brackets to attach from the seats themselves to the stock lower brackets. After that I drilled a few holes and bolted everything together with 3/8" x 3/4" grade 8 bolts. Not to shabby!

As for the harness it bolted up to the stock seatbelt holes using the stock hardware with no issues. I know this is not the ideal angle for the shoulder straps but it is the best I can do until I get a cage, which is still a ways off. The only thing not attached yet is the submarine belt. Anyone ever mounted one of these before? If so where?

This is probably going to be about it before hitting the drag strip in March. I'm going to try to get it back on some scales to get an exact weight soon. The next few mods will be a fuel cell and bumper exit exhaust but they are being put on hold for the moment. We found out our baby is going to be a little girl so we are currently working on the baby room. Then Autox season will be starting up so I will be playing with the Evo too. Life pulls in all directions but its a blast. Enjoy the pictures!

Looks like my seat. I like how you mounted the seat. Maybe I shouldve built my car after yours. You found all the simple cleaner ways of going about things.

Haha, Thanks for the compliment Justin! Now if I could get mine to hook and run like yours since thats what it's all about anyway. :thumb:

Ok guys. Its been over 2 months since I last updated this and for most of that the car was just sitting in the garage. To be honest I kind of lost interest in having a dedicated drag racing car. I was having more fun Autoxing with the Evo and was preparing to start Rallyxing with the Evo too. Meanwhile the Eclipse was sitting collecting dust. About 2 weeks ago I was washing both the Eclipse and Evo in the driveway and I had an epiphany. Why not rallyx the Eclipse? It has a lot more ground clearance, its already a bare platform (like clay waiting to be molded), and when I want to drag race I can still just throw on the slicks and go. It was decided, the Eclipse would become my rallyx horse.

With less then two weeks to go before my first rallyx in Tucson, Arizona, I needed a way to tow my Eclipse 5 hours away. I went out and bought a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport 3.0 4wd with 120k miles for dirt cheap. It was barely running and in no shape to tow anything anywhere. I got to work and over the next 10 days, I replaced the timing belt, water pump, valve cover gaskets, cam seals, spark plugs, wires, idle air valve, battery, transmission filter, did a transmission flush, headlight and brake light bulbs, wiper blades, installed a trailer hitch, and got it inspected and registered. After all that it ran like a champ!

My Mitsubishi collection, LOL!

Meanwhile I also made time to reinstall my front wiper and power steering systems on the Eclipse and take it out for a romp in the desert to get some practice driving off road for the rallyx. Everything was ready to rock!

This Friday we headed out for Tucson, AZ. The Montero did a great job towing although it was sagging a lot in the back. I will be replacing all the shocks and installing a Airlift 1000 kit in the rear for future towing. On Saturday morning we got to the event and the fun started! They only run 4 classes at this event - stock 2wd, stock 4wd, modified 2wd, and modified 4wd. My Eclipse was in the Modified 2wd class. There were 25 entrants, mostly Subarus. There were 2 Evo's, one that came out from El Paso with me, a C6 corvette (Not expecting that!), a couple of Ford Focus's, a truck, and pretty much the rest were Subarus. In the Modified 2wd class it was just me and a fully built rally Focus.

Things went well during the event. For those that don't know, in Rallyx all the times are added together collectively and your score is your time for all 6 runs together. After Rounds 1, 2, and 3, the Focus was ahead of me. I made a comeback and took the lead in round 4 after he hit a gate, kept the lead after round 5, and he retired before round 6 due to the car overheating so I walked away with a first place class finish in my first ever rallyx. I was quite excited!! Here are some pictures of the event thanks to Corey (gofer) who came down from Phoenix to hang out at the event and take some pictures!!!

(I have since fixed the mounting angle for the harness straps)

For the next event I would like to get a set of 15" steel wheels from the junkyard and hopefully pick up a set of used rally tires. I've heard that going from streets to rally tires is a night and day difference. I'm hoping to compete in the next event on May 25th as well, as long as I can get the time off from work. I would also like to make it out to the drag strip in the near future to see how the slicks and all my weight loss can do on the 1/4 mile. I'll keep you guys updated!
