Love the engine bay, looks really nice (understatement). I'm all about cleanliness, and you have that in spades! Looks like your Makita is missing the glow ring though, deducting points for that. :D

Ray pampena has been doing it on 6g72 heads for years. There are areas where the deck surface is thin where the water jackets are under the gasket fire ring.

Could you give me some insight on your brake booster eliminator setup? What master cylinder did you utilize ? I see you made your own plate for it.

I found it over on the evom fourm.

The unit has a 7/8" cylinder diameter that seams to work great for me so far.
Centric 130.46522 you can find it on rock auto: http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/moreinfo.php?pk=1626166

Quick update on the car. I turned the boost up to 50 psi and and took 2 degrees of timing out for safety until I could get a datalog to see if was safe to add it back in. My first pass out it went 167.9mph. The next pass I broke a u joint in third gear, trashing my dss driveshaft in the process. This was the only remaining oem part in my drivetrain. The week before this I broken an output shaft and front axle, I upgraded the front axles now.

    20150912_134230.jpg
I want to upgrade to a 1013 style u joint, dss makes an adaptor flange for a 3ks rear end. I can control my pinion angle so I ordered a custom 1 piece carbon fiber driveshaft.

I'm excited for next year! I'm thinking of moving to a Gen 2 7285 turbo as well.

Can't wait to see you out next year! Are you planning to attend at any Brainerd events next year? I'm from Minnesota as well! It's so nice to see a fast DSM repping the DSM community. :D

    Blast past 170 in 2016!

Thanks for the encouragement! At a minimum I'm going to attend both of the MAPerformance events at BIR.

I don't have any more pictures right now. I'll take some extras when I put the dss cf driveshaft in it. The driveshaft should be arriving next week. What are you looking for with the rear end mod, or do have any detailed questions I can try to answer?

I'm working on the 3/s rear in mine as well, so I'm just looking for some ideas on how to mount the diff.

It’s been a while since my last update. I had a 1 piece carbon fiber driveshaft made by dss after I destroyed my dss aluminum HD shaft. This allowed me to move up to a stronger 1310 style u joint too. It's crazy long, I can't wait to see how the CF reacts vs. the old 2 piece.

    20151223_152957.jpg

I also needed to strengthen up the mounting of the rear end, the brace in the rear broke once, the torque literally ripped it apart. Check out how the chromoly ovaled. I had severe wheel hop when a front axle broke and all the power went to the rear.

    20151223_153359.jpg

I increased the 4130 tube wall thickness to .120 from .083, and machined end caps that will be all welded up.

    20151223_153526.jpg

And the factory mounts were weak too, so I made stronger ones out of DOM 1026 tube:

    20151223_153643.jpg

Luckily I have a lathe for all this type of stuff.

Also I’m upgrading to a 72mm Gen2 PTE turbo this winter, it will make the car even more crazy! The 2016 season should be awesome!

I don't like the endcaps from bolted joint perspective. I think it's not rigid enough to maintain enough preload on the bolt. I think it would be better if it had a spool shaped piece in the tube. I've been putting a lot of thought into mine before I start.

Good thing to do to insure the best case for the bolted joint preload thanks!

I was always under the impression the working angles of our drivetrain components wouldn't allow for a 1 piece driveshaft. I know your setup is obviously far from stock, so are there any special considerations you took to utilize a 1 piece driveshaft? Does the 3KGT rear you have provide for this in any way over a stock rear end? Also, was a 1 piece aluminum driveshaft and option, or did you just prefer a CF driveshaft of the two?

Correct on the original setup not being suitable for a 1 piece driveshaft. I think the factory setup has around a 7 degree mismatch in driveline angles, however within 1 degree is a guideline to use a 1 piece shaft. When I fabricated the 3KGT mount, I set it up within 1 degree. I'm no driveshaft expert, but the very long length of the shaft causes issues in regard to critical speed and CF is the only realistic material option. Critical speed is at the predicted rpm point where a driveshaft will start bending or whiping, causing vibration and potentially leading to damage or failure. Good chart here: http://pstds.com/critical-speed-chart/
DSS also makes a 1310 flange for a 3kgt, that helps too.

Thanks, Mark. That answers all my questions. I appreciate the reply.

Just out of curiosity, can you say what that driveshaft set you back? Just thinking about what that thing costs makes my asshole pucker up.

    Thanks for all the feedback!

I installed the new snail, and went from a 3.5" down pipe to a 4".

    20160109_135647.jpg

The exhaust wheel is way more efficient and 10mm larger, should make more power everywhere in the power curve. The Garrett is a 10 blade vs. The 11 blade on the pte.

    20160101_103501.jpg

I need to finish up the exhaust and install my 300m output shaft. That's all that's planned for this winter.

Just read through all nine pages and I'm more envious of your tool setup and machines setup than I am you car LOL. A man like myself could only dream of even having access to the setup you have going on. Your craftsmanship is astounding my friend :thumb:

Made some progress last weekend, I dropped my transmission and installed a 300m output shaft. The new shaft is on the right:

    20160123_120201.jpg

I also finished up the ss to aluminum joint transition on the exhaust and routed it under the oil pan. 4"is a very tight fit. It's lessential than 1/4 inch of clearance between the transfer case and oil pan, measure twice and cut once!

    20160129_192120.jpg

The oil filter looks a lot closer than it really is, over an inch away.

    20160129_192251.jpg

I need to get one more vband aluminum flange to finish up the exaust. I really like the Vibrant quick vband clamps with male and female flange sections for alignment.
