Winter 07/08 Projects and Plans?

Glad to see JToby's car is in good hands.

Winter plans:

New radiator + fans and from JNZTuning
New control arms from JET Performance

Fix the ecu, some oil leaks, replace the old rubber brake lines with stainless steel lines.

I've probably got more plans for my new truck than the racecar.

Kyle - On your brake lines you may want to check out VIP Garage for them. Good deal on the Technafit Stainless Steel lines for DSMs. VIP Garage: Technafit SS Clutch Line 1G I run these on my car as well, just for the 2G of course.

As far as my "winter" plans, like I said earlier in the thread. Florida really does not have a winter and this weekend will be round #3 of my series so our season is just really underway. Going to be going through the engine and replacing all lines and hoses. Loosing some more wieght where I can. New dash panel for switches and ignition switches, things like that. Nothing "too" major. May go back into the engine and bore it .020 over and get some new psitons. But that would be the extent of it to this point.

Haven't we all said this? It makes no sense to drag racers when they see a DSMer going with a smaller turbo. My old SCM6152e was not the best choice for the road course...

On my old stroker talon i went from some big garret 60 trim that came with the car, to a turbonetics 50trim, to an evoIII 16g. I also went from a SMIM to a stock 1g intake manifold. I was also about to swap out my 272 cams for a set of 264's.

Maybe we need a winter de-mod thread...

No reason at all, in fact, I hope you do more of it!

So do I. Would love to see more DSM's at road racing events.

Thats pretty funny. "De"- Mod thread. I know after this series is over I will be looking into the the EvoIII 16G for my car as well.

My winter plans suck.

Im stuck in RI for school, and my cars at home in florida (titusville) to be exact. All cozy in an airplane hanger (climate controlled), in'till winter goes away.

I do get to visit on my vacation time. In those short time spans i hope to get a few thigns done.

- New power steering pump.
- Megan Coil-overs
- New strut mount bushing all around.
- Fix a leaky return line.
- Right rear wheel bearing (hub) replacement.

Not to mention get out and drive the car. The whole 6bolt only has 2000 miles on it.

Same goes for the tranny. (Jackstransmissions.com) has same miles as the motor.

I will bring it back to New england in the spring...and it will be like having a brand new car. :thumb:

I would definitely check those out but I already got a pair back in October, just haven't taken the car apart yet to start working on it. Still working on getting all my tools down to the new garage.

Oh, I gotcha now Kyle, my bad on that one. I thought you needed some man. I'm pretty lucky where I get to keep my car for the most part at another location (garage) other than my house. You going to do a write up on the brake lines when you do them?

I may, although I think there are a few already. Heck I still haven't done a writeup on the fender flare install even though I've got all the pictures taken. I just hope I didn't delete them when we last went on location.

Yeah man thats cool. Would be nice to see all the steps in that process you did there with the flares.

Not too complicated, line the flares up, make some marks, cut the fenders, drill some holes, bolt them on. :D

I have just picked up:
16g
Evo 8 fmic
Evo brembos and rotors
Walboro 255 fuel pump
18x8.5 +38 Enkei NT-03
235/40r18 Falken RT-615

installing in March, First track day @MMP April 4th & 5th

I'm going to finish wiring my megasquirt, install some koni yellows + GCs, and with any luck, have my car sent off to a local shop that wants to use my car to prototype a CNC exhaust manifold for our cars :)

Going to buy another GSX (and keep the GS-T as a daily driver :p!), ordering buschur racing stage 3 shortblock/cylinder head when I get to germany ^^? Since I'll be in germany for the next 3 years, it gives me ample time to complete the GSX (1g or 2g, thats the question?) By the time the GSX gets back to the states, it should be quite ready to hit the track in the 10's! ^^.. At least that's what I'm hoping for, all depends on how the wife reacts to all this stuff.. Haha! If I can just find a nice mirage I can get her off my back! Then I'll throw a 6 bolt in that too.. Haha!

I am thinking about building a front cross member out of aluminum and the support brackets from the front to the supension cross member. Has anybody built these? I think I can lose some weight in the front end.I have a 55% front and 45% rear weight balance.

Lordy, another misguided drag racer!

Dude, take that beast down to Nurburgring and run a few laps with it (20 euros a lap, I hear). You'll forget all about drag racing.

Dang hatting on the 1320! Haha jk
I am looking for a track down here in the bay area that will turn my thought around from the drag to road racing

2.3L stroker with ross pistons and eagle h-beam rods, 16g turbo, FMIC, new clutch and flywheel,
BBK255lph Fuel pump, 650cc injectors, new radiator, extremepsi throttle body, new tires, egt gauge, boost gauge, oil water and volt gauge, and maybe some new suspension goodies.

Hopefully cure mine of all the coolant leaks that keep randomly popping up. Only 1 month to do it, since my season starts (tentatively) on January 5th, with Son of Sno*Drift. Goal for '08 is to avoid what happened in '07, with SoSD being the one and only rally I made it to, due to many random failures on the car.

Also looking at picking up a new Mustang to have something reliable to drive to work since both my Eclipse and MR2 have become so unreliable.

Haha, speaking of which.. that is on my list of things to do.. going to Kaiserslautern, about a 2 hour drive from Nurburgring.. ^^.. That was one of the reasons for picking germany in the first place, if I don't end up in Iraq before I get to go.. Haha! Now, as far as forgetting drag racing.. haha, my dad would never let me live that one down, besides.. waiting for the day to get back home to walk all over his camaro with the DSM.. (you know how the old guys are, most of them are only 1320 oriented..) Haha.. can't wait to see the look on his face.... but for sure ganna hit nurburgring, I'll even make a video when I go and get it posted up here.. sooo until then^^!

Coolant leaks, eh? The nastiest one, and the hardest to find and fix, is the line that runs from the water pump behind the turbo. It looks and smells like a leaking water pump, but it ain't necessarily so. On some DSMs, installing a bigger turbo requires putting a dent in the pipe to clear the turbo, and that's where they can break. The last thing you want is for that to bust on you when you are running on boilerplate ice on Flying Volvo* stage at 100+. Sheesh...I can just imagine what would happen if that line bursts, spews onto the turbo, and you get a cloud of steam obscuring your windshield at 100 mph! Ain't rallying fun?

If you are seeing suspicious puddles under the car, check that pipe.

Rich

*I don't know if they run this stage anymore. It was pretty dangerous, because it ran on a paved road leading to a fishing camp on Lake Michigan. The road is closed and not plowed in the winter, so it accumulates boilerplate ice and snow on the pavement. Pretty dang tricky, especially since you can easily reach 100 mph on the straight sections.
