so whats is everyone's opinion on a really good suspension setup for a 1g fwd??? kyb agx's??? which springs???? im in the market to buy new suspension

I run the tein s-tech with kyb's and a coil booster in the rear to help deter the body roll in the hole shot. I agree fwd is the way im going to stay.

Honestly turbodsm18 with that kind of power you should be putting alot better times down than low 11s. I think that lsd will help you more than you think. You should be well into the low 10s with it.

I have only ran the car 3 times on slicks. I didnt have pressure very low in the tires cause well, I was still trying to see what the car was doing. I dont have antilag hooked up and the car leaves on hardly any boost.

High 10s would be more accurate...This car is still a full interior car that I drive almost every night...Its not a track car. It still has a lot of weight in it. I have a lsd that I need to get in the car just havent done it yet. Waiting for the weather around here to cool off...

I will also be soon testing out some new things...

Fwd's are tricky and I know only a few dsm'rs that can get them into the 9s-10s. Im in the process of putting my roll cadge in so everything is ripped out. Im also waiting on it to cool down, plus it rains almost everyday here in the summer.

When I go back out I will have the cadge in and more mods. Last time I ran, I went 11.9@128. That was on a street core fmic and stock cams with 34psi on a pte5557. Now I have a ets race fmic, hks 272s, and a shep stg 2 trans with quaife. Lost about 300lbs in the car. Im shooting for 10s. Last time I went I got locked out of every gear but still made some decent mph in the trap.

13.4 @ 129mph. 28-29psi. Approx 600whp. Spun 1st and 2nd real bad...spun a little 3rd..ran through it and trapped 129..M&H drag radials 235/60/15. Track couldnt hold the power. Car picked up 44mph from the 1/8 to 1/4. Waiting on electronic soldenoid to do boost by gear with ECMlink. Might retry with slicks soon or pickup a friends awd shell. Not sure if I want to play with this FWD any longer.

what tire pressure are you running? i would never even bother street tires and FWD car.. is just pointless.. just get a pair of slicks and get some real Et's

I ran some 11.70's and 11.80's the other day at 124mph. 1.855-1.866 sixty foots. The car is down on power a bit but that may get addressed over the winter. The tires have 100 passes or so and are rolling the rubber. Only 1 VHT application at the beginning of the day and only to the 60 foot, this was the only track prep/maintainence for 6 hrs of racing (other than sweeping debris off the track). With better driving and the ability to plant full power in second gear I'm hoping to slowly improve. Until then the car is rock solid reliable and simple to work on which is the major strength of FWD cars.

Those are awesome FWD times! What is your setup? What size slicks/rims, turbo, etc?

I will forget some things but:
-ID2000cc/min injectors
-Evo 8 ecu w/diy harness to pNp into 1g, speed density, tephra v7 rom
-stock 91 awd trans w/quaife LSD freshened up by me
-stock 6 bolt motor, new bearings, topline pistons, FP2 cams and stock evo8 valvesprings/retainers
-6 pt roll bar
-MT 26" slicks at 8psi
-D2 coilovers w/custom spring rates
-Runs on E85 ethanol (and 93 octane in the winter)
-JMF FMIC
- Tial new style BOV and DIY TiG welded SS charge piping
-FP 68HTA turbo

Street legal car, a little loud but street legal and driven 65 miles to the track, slicks mounted, and of course driven home.

Girlieracr4g63's Eclipse will be on the track Saturday finally. I have gotten up the nerve to drive the car down the 1320. Fayetteville Battle of the Belts event. Yes, those of you that knew her she was a FWD fanatic!!! THis car is going to ge a beast and I am excited yet nervous to get this on the track. I will post videos of this 2340 lb. 545hp fwd that she wanted to pilot to her goal of a 10 sec pass. I know she will be the co-pilot and I hope to give you guys some great results from all the donations of money, parts, and much love for her.

Thank you all for everything!

Best wishes,
Brad Pate

RIP Wendy "Girlieracr4g63" Pate. Missed but will never be forgotten! DSM!!!

What do you guys think about running a set of "spare" tires as your rear wheels at the track. You know the wheels that are in your trunk in case you get a flat tire. If you put some motorcycle tires on them they should be able to handle some pretty high speeds and would be a poor man's skinny rear tire set up. I'm not sure what size would be best but you could probably shed some major unsprung weight. I'm sure you could get some at a junkyard for pretty cheap as well. I have no idea what cars to get them from though. I will definately be getting some in the future.

Really? They develop a fairly nasty wrinkle in them at 8psi and I didn't want to go any lower and risk hitting the rim. I'll try 6psi I guess. Are you running the same exact tire? MT 26" by 8.5".

Good luck on the girlieracr4g63 car.

the wrinkle is what will give you the traction plus the more contact patch is what you will need to lauch harder and better 60ft.

with your setup i would play anywhere from 6 1/2 to 6psi .. << we cut 1.58 60ft on our fwd gst no whellie bars.

we Run a 26 x 10 on a 15" wheel

Good luck and keep us updated!

to give an idea.. this is my good friend jake blackman he's doing 1.59 to 1.6 60fts on a FWD civic. slicks are 26x10 on a 15" wheel

What wheel are you running? I have a 8" wide wheel right now and an 8.5" wide slick. I am thinking of going to a 10" wide wheel (like a weld or similar) for next year along with a 10" wide slick. I just wanted a ballpark. I figure I would probably have to go to 60-70mm offset to clear the extra 1" wide.

would you mind sharing the offset on that rim and what trans/axles are you running? i love my FWD and slicks are def on my list

thanks

we run the welds Draglites 15x10 with a 5.5 backspacing.
** Make sure you run longer wheelstuds with these wheels. **

As far as axles, we run the stock 2g axles.. they seem to be holding up pretty well no carnage there yet *knocks on wood*

tranny is a shep stage 2 with a welded differencial.

With 5.5" backspacing (or about 0 offset) how do the wheels tuck into the car? Do you know approximately how they fit on a 1g with coilovers? IE: plenty of clearance and can the steering wheel be turned lock to lock without rubbing?

check my avatar << or for bigger pics check my photobucket.

This are the bogarts with a 5" backspacing or 0offset

i am not sure on a 1g but the 2g needs minimal trimming on the backside of the fender and it does turns without rubbing.

I haven't been on here in a month or so due to a massive pack and move i just finished so i cna have my back and rght knee operated on..

So i was a few pages back and saw a few people asking about doing a burnout with a FWD at the track, and the problems of dragging water out on the track that can hurt a RWD'ers entire week or an AWD'ers launch.

Here's what i was taught to do and i've used this technique everytime i've ran a FWD at the track wether i'm using slicks or not.

1.) pull up to the water while leaving the rears out on dry pavement and quickly slip the front wheels a rotation or two just to get water on them all the way around

2.)then, backup and pull to the repective side of the water box (left on left lane right on right lane) get past the water and then let the tires roast.

* This way you can let the car roll-out a little while feeling out how sticky you're gettin the tires and you don't have to worry about youre rear street tire rears draggin water into the track*

3.) Line up and stage the car and get ready to race while not pissin off the guy behind you that's running a hi-po RWD on slicks (these are the guys that can get hurt the fastest in this situation), I watched a friend toast his 64 chevy that runs an 8.72 1/4 mile, some water caused the car to loose traction for a half second, the car started to spin around, then caught traction and launch full bore right into the wall less than 20 feet from the line and before he ever even let off the gas... the car was down the rest of that year rebuilding the right front corner (all tubeframe with fiberglass panels and custom suspension with willwoods get pricey to replace)

Anyway... hope that answers some peoples questions on the FWD waterbox delima, and honestly you can pull up, slip a rotation and then be pulled around the water box starting your burnout as fast as anyone else so don't worry you'll take too ong (if you are thinking of that you're just nervouse at the track) But honestly, most RWD cars pull around and back into the water, we can pull in then back out and around and earn some respect from the muscle car guys for thinking about what they hate that people in street cars do to them with the whole water box use

Ran 10.89 @ 131mph tonight...I post more on the whole day/night tomorrow...Its 4:22 am here I just got home so Im heading to bed...

I post about it tomorrow.
