Where are the FWDs at????

FWDs are great. I retired my car in 05, but I just bought the car back and building it again. Car ran best of 9.81 in Cali and 10.00 here in Utah back in '04 on alot of "old school" parts. A FWD car setup correctly you can't go wrong. Best of luck guys!

Glad you're back, I remember your car. Still going to have the F&F decal on the sides?

I finally got the new engine/trans and turbo all broken in, Once I get the engine dyno tuned or find a damn good tuner near Pittsburgh or possibly where I live I will be taking the car to the local 1/8 mile strip for some practice launches but before I even do that, I need some help finding some slicks/rims and lug nuts to use for the slicks, please read my profile for my list of mods and go from there, with my set-up I should be able to hit 11's or so and I will be very happy with that. Thanks everyone!

I second that, to each his own and this IS a FWD thread.

:nono:

I'm hoping to run about 30-35PSI to wake the turbo up. Its pretty dead till you throw some boost at it, starts spooling around 2800K with 20ish psi around 3900-4100 rpms, its not that bad, Its pump gas on 94 octane, there are NO E-85 gas stations near me, closest is in Pittsburgh which is 60 miles from me. I could but I don't know if I need bigger injectors, I thought 1150/cc FIC's would be plenty for high HP on pump gas, well see how things go. I still need to have some recommendations for slicks/tire size as well as lug nuts, after lots of reading I think I saw somewhere someone is running 24.5x10x13, but I still would like to know what everyone has had success with so I can base my judgment off of that. :hmm:

Can you share some tips with us please .

I run a AWD trans setup for FWD use. (welded center diff) removed TCase shaft. Spool or Phantom grip in front diff.

1000 pound springs in the rear.

26" slicks in front, Skinnies in the rear.

Move all weight possible up to the front end, Battery, fuel cell, etc.

I feel your pain. There are no fwd's that are trying to go fast around here except for me. It's kinda cool being the only one though. I think it's just easier for people to buy an AWD and go faster. Whereas buying a FWD it takes more work and practice to run good times. I myself got tired of all the AWD's running 12's and 13's so easily, so i threw on some slicks and a 14b and started hanging with them.

im with youon that... i myself want to make a fast fwd its slowly but surely

i just purchased my first dsm in june of last year. Its a 99gst with hopes of beating the local honda runnin 7.3's in the 1/8. I was all about hi hp until i came across this thread and ive enjoyed reading it...still have a lot of pages to go through...any way dont want to bore yall with a huge mod list, my set up is basic forged internals and built head....holset h1e...but what do u guys sugest suspension wise to get this thing to hook? Im shootn for 550 fwhp...i need to beat this hatch...that thing i siiiiiiick...

Anyone else running an automatic FWD setup? I'm getting a hell of a deal from a buddy of mine and am starting to just browse around to see if there's much else I can do. It has an IPT trans/stall, and I'm really wanting to go with a holset...would it be overkill or is there a chance of hooking up with a good tire?

Here is one of the baddest FWD DSM's in Florida....... Alex went 11.3@124 on a 16g!!!

No I meant the secret tips LOL. Like maybe a way to get equal weight distribution over the front wheels, or any custom stuff that you've made. Other than that I guess the basic FWD formula is slicks, LSD, super stiff rear suspension raised to the max, skinnies in the rear, all weight moved to the front of the vehicle, solid enigne mounts, and some damn good driving.

Definately coilovers for 550 fwhp. Anything less would be pointless. I got ones from ebay. Not the super cheap ones but still cheaper than the Tein or other big name coilovers. Something like these 95 96 97 98 99 ECLIPSE FULL COIL DAMPER SUSPENSION 2WD: eBay Motors (item 110528264173 end time Jun-02-10 17:33:48 PDT).

I'm not sure how much an automatic would affect it, but on a stock FWD you won't hook before 3rd gear without some form of LSD and suspension and a holset. You're also going to need a ton more supporting mods for that turbo.

It has/will have a bit more than that ;). I mainly lurk on here, but I know a good majority of what I'll need, thanks though. Suspension is done, has a built shortblock, blah blah blah. All I'm asking is how many other auto fwd street cars are there, if any, that run decent times.

Is there a reason you used an awd trans other than the gear ratio? Very curious about this since the awd trans is so much heavier than the fwd.

All wheel drive transmissions are a ton stronger than front wheel drives. Plus, there isn't anyone who makes a front wheel drive dogbox. We use a dogbox, and welded diff. We've been 10.22@147 on a so-so pass, 10.40@150 on a bad pass. We're still figuring it out, but it'll run 9's soon without nitrous.

i got a 91 eagle talon fwd with a 2.0l 6 bolt in it and when im done it aint gonna be any slow puppy. by the way ive heard of superchargers bein put on the talons any one have any feedback on them and how they work

This will not end well. :ohdamn:

traction

I had a friend who followed that guide and he felt it made a big difference. The alignment makes sense, you want your contact patch as big as possible under launching conditions. I bet with coil overs you could get the weight distribution pretty much perfect at the track, and set it back so you're not lopsided on the street.

Ya I had read up on corner balancing and was thinking of doing it in the future. I just need to get some scales to do it.

Also on the sway bar thing, I read in one of "turboglenn's" threads that he modified his front sway bar to help with weight distribution. He must have done something similar to that article, thanks for posting it.
