What Turbo is this? [Merged] Turbo ID Identification

Appears to be a 14B with a VERY worn compressor wheel. Should be nice and crisp on the edges, like:

I have search for the full id on this turbo but can not come up with it.

td05h
s030409014
49173 0500 could also be 49178 0500
This is on a 98 talon but the engine has some yellow markings like it came from a junk yard.

I am not familiar with all the turbo terminology and it is my first attempt at a turbo motor.

Thanks

^ Still wouldn't make it anywhere near the potential of an Evo III 16G. You can swap turbine housings all you want, and you'll still have a 14B.

Hey justin, some guy is selling his turbo here and he claims its a pte dual ball bearing but from the pic it looks ebay, and my bro went to go check it out and he says it looks ebay too..this is what he says on his cl add " his is a big precision dual ball bearing hybrid turbo. bolts right up to a dsm manifold it still works but wont boost over 10psi for some reason. might be able to rebuild it but not sure. spools real quick." And here's the picture, what you think...

eBay doesn't offer DSM bolt-on T04E turbos.

If it's a PTE ball bearing turbo with a functioning wastegate system and it won't build beyond a certain boost level, this is because the bearings are damaged from oil contamination. The entire turbo is junk with the exception of the turbine housing and compressor cover; ball bearing turbos cannot be rebuilt.

Check with PTE to see if they can service it for you, but I'm pretty sure they're going to try to sell you a new CHRA for $800 or so.

Well my Bro says the hotside says AGP but if u say ball bearings aren't rebuildable and IF pte can do it, it'll be too much anyway ..thanks justin

Turbonetics built all of AGP's turbos; not PTE. That doesn't mean someone didn't slap an AGP turbine housing on a PTE turbo, however.

But yeah, Garrett GT ball bearing turbos cannot be serviced....and the few various brands that do offer a serviceable ball bearing cartridge can't be done on the cheap. I'd leave this turd in the toilet.

T04E57 with a P-Trim turbine. That's way more turbine flow than is necessary using that turbine housing on a DSM. You'd be adding 800-1000rpms of unnecessary lag.

Bullseye Power made some smaller a/r turbine housings which would allow this turbo to bolt directly to a DSM manifold- part number would be TMG5 if there are any still available.

I wouldn't put a bunch of money into it....there are definitely better turbos out there.

What is this turbo?

ok so i got this its supposed to be a sbr g60 turbo, i have tried to research this turbo and have came up with little info about it, i have a few questions regarding this and it is a stock flange bolt up.

i know they make a g60 g60-1????
what type of turbo is this and what brand for sure??
bb or journal?
will oil feed from oil filter housing be sufficient or do i do from the head??
the little i found i have heard something about a 4" housing??
the second picture if it comes out has a letter "T" embedded and there are no other identification marks, staps, munber anywhere else that i can see.

and lastley, i have these 2 manifolds and dont know what is what and which is better, i do know that the quality of the black one looks way better as far as welds go, and thats the one that was installed when i bout it. the polished one is supposed to be a megan brand but have not seen one like it. the black one DOES NOT have a support to the turbo flange from the other flange

my car has lots of mods that can be looked up somehow through this site. thanks in advance for the help.

If it is a G60, it's one of the ones built by Turbonetics from the 2003-2004 era.

It's a Turbonetics turbo no matter who marketed it initially. AGP does the same thing.
bb or journal?
Journal.

Filter housing; restrict as needed to keep peak oil pressure around 65psi.

Sell them both and buy a good cast manifold. Tubular manifolds are horrible for daily drivers.

hey thanks for the fast reply,

its not really a dd (baby seats in most our cars), but i will eventually take it to work every now and then and the occasional street and strip nite we attend.
major diff. of the 60 60-1??
early 03-04?? good or bad?? it has no shaft play
turbonetics? heard kinetic or something of that nature too.

whats a good cast manifold??
turbo lag on built 2.0

oh yeah one more thing
do i need to upgrade the wastgate currenty a 38mm on 17lb. spring
and my blow off valve greddy rs knock off.

if so what should i be looking to get??

also the flange for the drain on the g60 looks larger than the 16g that i was running. the g60 flange has the tube still on it and cut off, looks like i would be able to cut the original hose and put a hose clamp and would work?? would it give me the correct drainage??
if not i was looking at the tech section and was wondering if this is the same for mine
Turbo Flanges & Gaskets, T6 / S400 Oil Drain Flange, RPS-T6ODF | RacePartSolutions.com

also assuming that it will work ignore the following question

would i be able to weld the bung to the turbo drain pan or do i need to get the non turbo pan to work best. and then the usual fittings
