yea i understand that you aksed that, all i was trying to bring to the table was the fact that you may not want to use it. it will be more benficial to you if went to a manifold that accpets a ext. wg and use that. that will elimate creep on the 16g and in turn youll run much better and appreciate the turbo much more. sorry for the confusion.

Correct, Small 16g is what you have.

A short story, I bought 2 90 turbo dsm's for $240. Both non running. One a 90 AWD 5 sp. Talon, the other a 90 FWD 5 sp turbo laser. On the laser I found a small 16G. I sold the CHRA to someone and still have the comp. cover. Here is some pics of it.

well i swapped my blown 14b with the 16g today...havent had time to try it out yet, my gas tank says otherwise but thanks for your help.

How can I find out what size my turbo is. It is a t3/t4 but everyone I see on different sites have different ratios. My compressor housing is polished so I dont know how else I can explain this.

The T3/T4's aren't like the Mitsubishi turbos; many different people manufacture them to different specs. Good luck with this one.

I just looked through my old emails, the guy said .48 a/r 57 trim, but I have seen a 50 trim and it looked the same size. is there a way I can measure to check if these numbers are correct or not?

Also based on these numbers, would a FMIC be of any use or is the sidemount enough?

On that size turbo, a front mount would offer the best results. You could run a sidemount, but you'd need to add methanol injection to boost the cooling power (dual nozzle). By the time you bought an upgraded sidemount and methanol injection, you could have an FMIC with 2.5" piping for the same or less cost.

Hope that helps,

Andy

will I be able to run as low as say 4-5 psi on a sidemount? I will be using an external wastegate but I have not yet purchased one. If I do decide to go FMIC, I would hook up the side mount for the time being using cheap press bent piping from local autozone, then move to 2.5 piping on a front mount and pump the boost to around 7-8 after I get some more money. Does this sound good?

Didn't want to start a new thread for a question, is there a way I can measure the exhaust side of the turbo? I know I can take the compressor side off and measure the diameter to get the trim that way. Also, I want to port this before I put it on so I dont have to go back and do it later, can someone link me to a porting faq, Ive been looking at vfaq, but haven't found anything on porting a t3/t4. One more thing, based on .48ar 57 trim, what rpm should I expect 8psi at? Ive found some threads that say around 4k for full boost, but people are running more than 8psi.

First of all I did a search and I looked on VFAQ, but no answers.

I'm looking to buy a turbo from this seller who thinks its a big 16g, but is not positive. He says the turbo is stamped with the following numbers and letters: TD04 s4917701901. He also says that there are 12 blades and they stagger 6 high 6 low.

I though 16gs were stamped with TD05H? Is this a hybrid turbo or non-mitsu?

He also says that there is no shaft play, but the turbo does not spin freely. It spins but he claims there is some difficulty in turning the blades. Will this most likely need rebuilt or is this kid just being a wuss / silly? Might it be burned up / seized bearings?

After some searching I found a site that makes it seem like a 13G, but wanted to see if anyone could double verify this. The "s" in the code is not shown in the site either. The site is for 3000gt / Stealths. There is a table some ways down the page that may be useful in future searches.

Turbo guide

2 problems I see just by reading your post. 1 is the seller has no idea what turbo he has. 2is the turbo does not spin freely. If it is a TD04, it is not a 16g. Find another turbo. It more then likely a 13g.

quick googlr search gave me one page in a different language, but the assembly diagram shows a misu turbine housing and says 90-94 5-speed

A 90-94 5 speed would indicate that it is a 14b turbo. On the actual compressor housing, it should say TD05H. Also, the compressor wheels are single finned, not stagger (or double) finned like a 16G variant is. Another clue to what it is is by checking the turbine housing. It should have a 6 cm^2 imprint casted in.

I have only seen one turbo that has the 04h Compressor housing that uses the 16g wheel and that is the stock turbo in the SRT4s. IMO buy another turbo.

It looks like a 3076, T3 inlet, 4 bolt 2.5 outlet. There are no coolant lines. Oil cooled only.

And incase you couldnt tell, its a t04s Cover as well. Just trying to decided if I should swap out my 50 trim for this. I can sell my 50 trim and buy this and still have $100 left from the money from my turbo.

My turbo reads TDO5H, and that indicates a 14g, as far as I can gather from my reading. However, in my case, this does not quite add up.

This is an automatic AWD 92 Talon, so would I not have a 13b from the factory? As soon as that thought crossed my mind, I pulled the turbo (as I was rebuilding the engine) and googled the following serial number: 49178-05200. This was stamped onto the plate of the cold side of the compressor housing, opposite TD05H.

The serial number matches that of a 16g on the following site: http://www.turbochargers.com/Turbos/TurboUpgrades/16G.htm

I know that the previous owner had 2 valves hit the #4 piston, and the head was rebuilt. I also know that piston was damaged, as this was the reason for the overhaul. What I do not know is whether or not bits of valves destroyed the stock 13b, and the owner bought this turbo as an upgrade, as is my working theory. I would love to know if that is indeed the case.

There is another post in these forums that has the last five numbers of a 16g's casting or serial number, and mine do not match. But the site I reference leads me to believe that I own what is on that page. Do I have some kind of oddball 13b, 14g, or do I really have a 16g?

That would be kind of nice, as the car was $600 in a junkyard, and I am trying to keep this on the cheap...and if this is what my referenced page tells me, I got a helluva buy.

Thanks in advance.

Thank you, GVR. I only had time to quickly read the page you referenced, but from what I read I am convinced you are correct; thank you very much.

Now I'm not so upset that the darn thing just ran hot this afternoon - but I know now that the factory sidemount is going to have to go! Soon!

This car has been a love/hate kind of thing, but each time I want to let it go and abandon the project, little wonders like these keep popping up. :)
