SSautochrome is at it again...

But anyways.. I have a 97 tsi fwd i got at the auction with a locked up t25... and was looking to buy this and throw it on there.. Give it a bump in Hp yet no install kit.. But is the turbo a t25 or t28? Im selling the car on the lot so if this turbo is really bad let me know now ###..

Thanks alot

It doent really matter what size it is because the turbine housing will not bolt up to your manifold anyway. I dont even think they know what they are selling because a tdo4h is an mitsubishi turbo and a t25/28 is a garrett turbo. By the looks of it, it is neither garrett nor mitsubishi.

If you are looking for a cheap replacement so you can resale the car, just buy a used t-25. They can be had for a dime a dozen with everyone upgrading to 14b and bigger.

Used t-25 turbos actually go for pretty much on ebay. I sold a used but still good T-25 for more then what I paid for the good 14b that replaced it. I think when the honda people see the "T" in T-25 they think F&F and bid like crazy...or something. ROFL

That turbo doesn't look anything like a mitsubishi T25 or T28. It kind of looks like the T28 on a SR20DET so I'm asuming that the turbo your refering to is designed to go on a Nissan instead of a DSM.
So, if you bought it you'd probably have difficulties installing it.
I definetly would never put that thing on my car.

I wouldn't run that crap on my lawnmower. Well, maybe I would, but only on a lawnmower.

You can get good T25's for cheap all day long. I sold a T25 and a 14b, both in good condition, for $150 for the pair.

So i recently bought a "20g with 1g manifold" offline. The guy told me it was a 20g. So it get here and i open the box and this what i see

so im like oh its a tdoh6 not an H5. so i dont think any thing of it and put back in the box. So i looked at it again today, and am stumped. Here is the numbers on the exhuast housing

. It has a mitsu sign on the exhuast housing, but if you look at the flange its a dif flange welded on to the manifold.

Why would it have a different flange if it is a mitsu product? Shouldnt it be bolt on? Could it be a greddy 20g possibly?

And here is the o2 side

yes i know its vband i dont have a problem with that. I just dont know what turbo comes with a vband besides a few bigger turbos that i know.

And i'll ask my other question why im at it. I also bought an oilpan with a SS oil drain line.

but up to this turbo you see the problem

So in conclusion i would just like to know what turbo this is? Thanks for you time zach

it looks like a t3 or t4 flanged turbo...which is weird because it is stamped mitsu on the exhaust housing...mitsu flanges are a circle...and t3s are squarish...t4s are rectangle shaped but usually with a split down the middle...yours looks like a t4 without the split...the v band o2 housing is not a mitsu product...also do you have a wategate on the manifold because i do not see where a wastegate would go

I've seen that flange before... a guy at my shop tried to sell it to me for my Mitsu 16G; it's a T3/T4 oil drain flange.

I'd throw that one away and get one on Ebay for $15 or so.

That is a TDO6H 20g from a Cyclone/Typhoon. They had Garrett T3 inlet flange patterns but were still made by Mitsu. Probably an intresting story behind why GMC designed their manifold for the truck with Garrett flanges then used a Mitsu turbo.
Anyway, same principle behind the HRC 20g except they only ever used the 8cm and 10cm housings. That 14cm housing you have there is sure to perform like butt unless you doubled your engine displacement. Way too big for your application.

The V-band discharge flange is something that was added by someone later, partly because those Sy/Ty discharge flanges can be tough to find to fab a downpipe for.

the turbo is going to be to big even with a fully built top and bottom end, with a 2 step off the line to build boost?

It'll spool, but you'll never begin to use it. Get a smaller housing on it.

Need your help guys. What turbo do I have and how can you tell? There are numbers on it.

the numbers are these.

tdo5h 49178-01470 on the intake side

exhaust side says

78-13700 070 F5 21 23

Do a snoopy dance. That's an EVO III 16G.

For future reference, numbers are as follows:

49178-01420 - Big 16G
49178-01470 - EVO III 16G
49178-01520 - Small 16G

This assumes that the wheel hasn't been swapped.

Have fun!

Andy

a local shop near me.

it was such a pain in the ass to put this motor in. so many things were differnt from my stock 7 bolt. The Crank angle sensor isnt on this motor but is on the 7 bolt so you have to splice together the crank angle and cam angle together from what i understand you have to do that for 6 bolt swaps to? is the evo 3 a 7 bolt or 6 bolt? I changed alot of stuff over from my 7 bolt over like the acc's and i put my injectors back in it because i didnt know what the yellow ones were and i just wanted to get the motor running (thank god it is now)

just got some new rims and tires same 17inch rims as i had before and same waight, my car seems a little slower, can not haveing the allignment done be a factor or the allignment be bad??

www.noyanusa.com there right around the corner from me. suppose to be the biggest east coast importer as well. ####in wearhouse is HUGE!!!!.... DONT TELL THEM YOUR LOOKING FOR A EVO3 MOTOR or they will charge you alot more. ask for a motor for your 95-99 eclipse. They say those are what goes in our 95-99 eclipses.

This aint an EVO3 turbo , its a standart Big 16G turbo. I bought one that had yellow top injectors and the same turbo and it was a Big 16G, not an EVO3.

Look at the Vfaq you will see its a Big 16G, but its still very good

you're so lucky!!!!! when i got mine I got 450's and a crappy 13G :notgood:

well, atleast you're one step ahead to a great car! enjoy!! :thumb:

That is not an EVO 3 motor, its a JDM Galant VR-4 motor with a big 16g and the yellow top injectors are 510cc vs. the standard 450cc injectors. Other than that its no diffrent than a USDM 4g63. I had the same motor once and thought the same thing, untill someone on here corrected me. Sorry to break the bad news to you.
