The compressor wheel did infact measure 66mm.

The airflow i mentioned was not on this turbocharger btw.

Looks like a 14b to me. The turbine housing is cracked pretty good. If you have to reinstall it I wouldn't use it for much longer. No point in trying to fix it either, just replace the turbine housing.

14b. no harm in using it. Maybe slower spool? If the crack leaks past the wastegate. Just use it and save up.

Definitely a 14B, although it does appear to have some turbine sealing ring leakage due to the inconsistent carbon patterns and raised "bumps" or spots toward the center of the turbine wheel.

You should heavily consider getting this turbo rebuilt before installation.

I want to get it rebuilt but I didn't know if the cracking would do any harm. Because if it will hurt it ill just pony up and buy a new one ASAP. But if this one will last a year or so and let me save so I can buy a bigger turbo and all the right mods to run it.

I was planing on sending it to Justin and letting him do the rebuild. Just one last question should i port it out or leave it alone. And thanks again for all the help

Depends what your goals are- if you're keeping the car stock, porting wouldn't help a thing. If you're going to run a lot of boost, you'd actually benefit more from upgrading to a 7cm turbine housing instead of porting your factory 6cm housing.

Hmmm I've heard of that Justin guy :p

I've never had to rebuild a turbo, but Justin will be the one when the day comes!

No.

Absolutely not.

Whatever the current scrap price is.

Of the whole setup, the fancy FMIC j-pipe is the most valuable item with the o2 sensor being a close second.

Just the person I wanted a reply from ^.

Thanks Justin for the confirmation.

Its whats on a Talon I recently bought and the kid swore up and down and even got offended when I said it was a knock off Evo3.

Now Today I just spoke with the person that 1st bought the turbo and stated he spend over $1300 on that turbo new from the Mitsubishi dealership and stated I did not know my turbos and called me newbie...

I found a similar turbo on a website called 3sx and they go for $399 new..

He even stated he would bet me $500 that is was a real MHI Evo 3.

Guess Im $500 richer if he even mans up to pay?

Thanks for the info Justin.

Ask if his car has a big label spelling out 'car' on it anywhere... just to confirm it's a car. When he's like WTF, tellim how retarded he is for saying that's a real quality turbo.

I'd slap him if he keeps playing it out...he's just bluffing to sell anyway. I swear those damn low lives..

Have him produce a receipt- I'd love to see what dealer ripped him off.

I find it hard that any random dealer would sell a walk-in customer an Evo III 16G seeing as the Evolution III was never intended for US distribution. It's not in any dealer's parts Fiche anywhere. The 49178-01470 part number on the compressor cover is a Mitsu Heavy Industries part number so that wouldn't mean shit to an auto dealer, only a turbo parts supplier....two completely different divisions. It would be like attempting to buy Mitsubishi television parts from a car dealership.

So unless this tool was smart enough to dig through Evo III parts fiche and walked into the local dealership with either MR239345 or ME083572 written on piece of paper and asked the parts counter guy to order that turbo, there's a good chance they would have told him to go pound salt. ;)

Same piece of shit for $182 brand new on eBay: TD05 Big 16g Turbo turbocharger Internal Wastegate EVO | eBay

Let's put it this way- if everything shown in the photo was new he'd have about $350 in parts sitting there. Used....the whole setup is worth about $175 MAX.

can you i.d this FP turbo for me, I was told it was a old FP green, thanks
