Took it out for a good rip on some back roads and man its rockin! Came back though and saw some oil coming from the oil fill cap. Blow by or bad seal?

Bad seal. Add a 2nd gasket to the fill cap. I have that SAME cap and its what I did.
I went out and fired up the Red Talon, which is now on gasoline. I let it warm up and it was firing on 3 1/2 cylinders for the first minute until it quit running rich, 11.5 while it was idling. :idontknow:
That cleared up after holding the revs up for a short bit.

My cap just wasn't quite tight enough so I bought a el-cheapo cap and robbed its new gasket. You could make one out of rubberized gasket material from Fel-Pro also.

Removed/cut out the windshield today and vacuumed all the broken glass I could find out of it. Kind of bittersweet, but now I can tear the car apart and not have to worry about a million pieces of glass embedding into my skin.

Also took a better picture(above) to show just how close I was to death in this car. The roof(as you can see) dips below the dashboard in the lowest spot. 6 inches to the left, man, and I'd have had to be removed from the car with a shovel and a hose. Wild.

Started her for the first time in over a month. Fired right back up and it was good to hear the rumble of the Thermal again. Now back to sleep with her.

I finally got the street tune on my car finished from RixRacing. I was very happy with the overall results. Peaked at 514hp, 394 ft lbs of torque, 30psi @6900 rpms. Conservative timing, I think with 9 degrees of timing at 6500rpms. I thought I was going to get high 400's on 93 pump gas but was very happy to break 500hp with the twin scroll Holset hx35 8 blade in 14cm housing.

Yesterday I cracked my valve cover changing the gasket, I over-torqued the valve cover bolt near the exhaust cam and split the cover pretty good. I was beside myself but it is what it is, new valve cover on the way but the car is down until the new valve cover arrives. This car will be the death of me LOL I have often considered getting a Mazda rx7 13b twin rotor but I often think how much more problematic is that engine to maintain compared to the 4g63 LOL.

I changed the fuel pump from Walbro 255 to Walbro 450 and installed a bulkhead fitting and new 6an braided PTFE fuel feed line from tank to rail. Will upgrade to 2150cc injectors at some point in the near future, currently running 1250cc injectors. Making headway for the new Borgwarner s364sx-r turbo that is capable of 91lbs a minute. I can't wait to pair it with Morrison Fabrications merged collector t4 twin scroll top mount manifold. Hoping to get closer to the 550-600hp mark on pump gas at the same psi. Turbo and turbine housing is in already but now to wait the dreaded 30+ weeks for the manifold, Morrison Fabrications stays busy

Started it up, moved it out of the garage, cleaned it a little bit and parked it again. It's almost out of gas so I need to get some. I think I will wait until spring before I switch it to E.

This is not my own car but a friend's car i have known for 15 year's. I built the motor in it 10 years ago and have tuned this car for 15 year's. He got rid of the ISC year's ago and he built his custom harness. Finally he put a ISC back in as the car has a prius electric power steering and few other thing's so massive amp draw that when fans kick on will lug the motor and with no isc it will lug down and stall.

The ISC portion was not a big issue. Ran the wires from ecu to isc for control and fed the power as needed too at the plug.

The strange portion. This car has been on omni 4 bar map for 6 year's. No issues but he wanted to switch to aem map sensor. Totally fine, he purchased a 6.5 bar map from aem. I recommended a 5 bar as his car will never need to read higher but fine. The map sensor uses the baro input same as it always for map. I scale the sensor as liner and it read's max vacuum. I look at raw logged voltage and it shows 0 when plugged in.

We unplug sensor and voltage creeps up to mid 3 volts. This car has a ecm link harness that has buffered input so that should be fine. This car also has fuel pressure logged using MDP input. We decided to swap 5v power and ground at the map sensor. We now see .4v from map sensor that the chart shows would be essentially atmosphere. The fuel pressure shows 10 psi low always. The flex fuel sensor is not reading. The car is NOT happy.

We learned year's ago with ecm link when you shut the car off the ecu stays powered for a few seconds and essentially save's the changes made in live portion. When you have a master kill switch if you turn key off and instantly kill power to ecu it can revert to stock values in all of live portion. We did not make this mistake again, but the live portion of tune returned some to stock and other portions to insane values. We are not even sure how this was possible. I had saved file of the tune and reflashed that back in so now live was normal again and direct access as correct as before.

This point we are more confused then when we started. We put the omni 4 bar back in as before and everything was perfect again and car runs normal. Appears no damage done.
We at this point assume the aem map sensor is bad and only shows 0 volts. Though in our head's why when powered backwards did the sensor show a normal ish voltage but freak out other sensor's. We did not have it wired wrong and in our why not did power it backwards and got a reading but clearly made other things freak as it was backwards.

Has been a interesting night that's for sure.

Test fit some Lancer GTS 18” wheels on my 1g that I bought on marketplace. I like the fitment in the front but it could use a spacer in the back. Hoping these will give me the room I need for my planned brake upgrade. The tires are trash so I’ll have to replace them first.

Those don't look too big. I've been considering 18s for my car since it's such a common size now and the tire availability seems much better. I've only been able to find a couple pictures of1Gs with 18s though so I'm still not sure.

Been running 18inch wheels on mine for over 20 years. No issues for daily driving and track days.

Nuts in the hatch for the hatch struts were rusted and broken. 2x4 has lived in my car for many years....NO LONGER REQUIRED.
ripped the old hatch off and bolted a new one on... paint is worst then old hatch, but it still matches the car so gotta start body work in the spring. But for now I have a working hatch with struts in 2026 :hellyeah: I forgot how nice it was to have a hatch that basically opens for you with a touch.
