if you can find the 1g only chilton's go for it.

i have the one for 90-99 and its almost all about the chrysler and 2g engines. 1g stuff is almost non-existant. the haynes manual is actually pretty decent for our cars.
 
So the best thing to do is swap in the full turbo swap and use the n/t tranny aftermarket clutch flywheel and safc. Then you are done right? That seems a lot cheaper and less time to do that find a wrecked one and pull the complete swap or whatever. Am I right>?
 
I don't know if it has been asked, but does hahn turbo systems make anything for the 1g cars or the 4g63 engine in general. I thought the results with the 420a were great. Answers are greatly appreciated?
 
Hi guys all the info has been great. The only question I have is where can I find the wire diagram for the fuel pressure soleinoid and the injector resistor pack the knock sensor and the mass. I need to know where to hook the wires to the ECU and stuff.

are these things needed?
turbo fuel pump.
intake mani
wastegate solenoid
coolant cross pipe
thermostat upper and lower housing

I was told the N/A has better fuel presure than turbo. Is there any other way to mount the TB and elbow to the mani other than getting a mani. Is there any other ways to run the coolant lines. One more thing where do the oil lines go. Thanks.

Also I was told that the 7th wire from the mass goes to #6 on the ECU is that right?

i'd have to double check on the 7th wire thing, but other than that everything is needed except for maybe the intake manifold. the only thing missing on the nt manifold is the vacuum nipple for the bov signal. you could easily drill and add one yourself.

as for the na fuel pressure dealy here's what i've found.

i had the na fpr on my car and on the 14b it seemed to give me good 02 readings ( i also had a 190lph pump and stock injectors) with the same setup + a 16g i was in the .73 o2 range (dangerously lean) personally i'm blaming the fpr for this issue and tonight swapped back to the turbo fpr. i'll hope to have results in for you soon as to whether that made the big difference.
 
I've been keeping up with this post for quite sometime now, i have a 1990 nt, the one that stands by itself with all its own vacumm layouts, ecu, and its ignition layout. i recently read the mike hamilton site, and i am in the process of basically turning my car into a 1991 because as far as i know the turbo conversion can't be done on a 1990 with out converting everything to 91+, i plan on going with the turbo kit setup for mine with the forged internals and all, i have some parts now but, im waiting for the $ to come in, i pretty much get the install and all but i wasn't sure bout rising rate fpr, can you just buy like an aftermarket turbo fpr? if i read over this answer i apologize, thanks if you can give me a response
 
Yes an aftermarket fpr will work but is not needed unless you get a big fuel pump, say a 255lpm. But then you have problems because it need to be turned DOWN for idle, there is only a few setups that will work right.

You can do the conversion to a 90, as that is what I have done. You just have to get all the 90 parts which are harder to find. You need an 90 ecu, coil, coil ignition pack and the throttle body if you are changing it also.

I will try to answer any other questions out there.

the coils and coil ignition pack are all the same, and i happen to have a 90 turbo throttle body. the throttle body doesn't have the elbow on it, but i think i might have my stocker laying around in a box somewhere.
 
The coils will work but your tach will not. The tach signal comes from the ignition pack in 90 and from the coil pack in 91-94. ( or vise-versa ) That also means that you have to have a tach to match.

yea i've been lookin around lately and i think what im gonna try to do those conversion to 91 ignition and vacumm schematics and pretty much upgrade the parts that are different to a 91 turbo instead of paying the massive amount for a 90 turbo ecu, the junk yard said that they are hard to find and that a dealer would want 900$ for one, so i said forget that, ill see what i can do once i get some cash ill let yall know how it goes when i get started prolly within the next two weeks, oh and i read about the tach that if you convert to a 91 you have to change the tach out of a 91 into the 90 so it will work right , that should fix the tach not workin,but i definetly need to get that fpr because my idle is kinda choppy right now or atleast curb idle get ruff at stoplights that should help out, thanks alot for the info
 
Then get a 91-94 ECU. Change the pinouts on your wire harness so they match the ECU. Done. Your FPR probably doesn't have anything to do with your rough idle either.
 
Thats what i had intended to do, im actually going convert to a turbo ecu and run 450 injectors, well theres a little bit more to it then slapping it on there but its not that hard to do, i got it all from that mike hamiltons dsm website linked somewhere on this thread its a good resource
 
Just an update on my conversion. It should be on it's way fairly soon. I just had the block machined with the head.

Block - Stock bottom end minus the oil squirters. Everything with 0km on them. No overbore. New timing accessories.

Head - Stock head with 4 layer metal head gasket and HKS 264 cams.

Fuel - 550s, APEXi SAFC, VR4 pump, stock turbo FPR

Turbo System - 16g w/ ported housing and 34mm wastegate and a Kinstetics FMIC kit. Extreme MBC. Boost guage and datalogger. 90's style oil cooler. Turbo ECU. 2G Ex manifold.

Drivetrain - stock n/t tranny with ACT 2100 clutch (not the 2100, but equivalent n/t clutch).

Air Flow - Full 3" turbo back exhaust system with O2 sensor eliminator. Custom aluminum intake with dump tube option. (May vent, but when race, back into the intake.)

I have yet to purchase the exhaust system, yet I have had a consultation for it. FMIC fund is on it's way. 25% there. :rolleyes: Intake has yet to be made yet. I can make it for very cheap.

once i get my 550's and fmic finished i'll be looking forward to a battle at the shootout :) hopefully my phantom grip and new tires will make up for the cams i don't have.
 
I have a set of Pirelli P7000s as is. So phantom grip vs. cams. Of course, the driver makes the biggest difference.
 
well the nt tranny is holding all the power my big 16g is throwing at it while boosting 17psi.

Yes it will hold the boost. And I'll be getting back to you fairly soon on the front case I need. (I broke the damn thing).
