OK, i want to turbo my n/t.
I have all the stuff to do it..
But i would like to just bolt on the turbo, run the wires, and IC pipes, change out ECU.
Without changeing the cams or pistons.
Straight stock n/t block, with just all the turbo parts on it.
Is this possible?
 
I know I'm bringing this thread back from the dead but This is the support thread and It will be good to see How turbo n/t's are coming along. I'm kinda riding the fence with whether or not I should boost my car but anyway..

Couple Questions:

If I have a resistor pack for 450's can I use 390's and be ok? (I'll be using the matching turbo from an automatic turbo car)

The wastegate for the 13g turbo will open at 8lbs of boost If I run the vacuum line to the J-pipe? I know the 14b's wastegate will open at 8lbs?

I was looking into getting an original Super AFC the one with the knobs that push in and out, I would need to get a datalogger to tune with that correct?

Lastly what should I do to prevent boost creep? I dont want to over-boost on my stock nt block :nono:

Port the piss out of the O2 sensor housing (especially the wastegate path).

Anybody know a good charge pipe solution? I will be using the stock smic but the upper intercooler hose won't bolt up to my nt tb. I need a cost efficient solution.
 
Not to beat a dead horse but I have a couple questions relating to the na-t conversion. Im building one for a daily driver, and just want another turbo car in addition to what I already own. Now for my questions, #1 could I swap in some turbo 4G pistons/rings, and be good to go as far as upping boost, say 12-15psi? And second, I've read up about using the na ecu, but just to clarify, I "can" or "can't" use the na harness along with the turbo ecu? And could I just run hi-impedence 550's and scrap the injector resistor pack for the low-impedence 450's? I realize this would then take an SAFC to tune out the excess a/frs, and lastly is the turbo oil pan necessary, or can you tap out the na pan to run your drain line off the turbo? Thanks everyone..

Yes.

You can. Just need to runa knock sensor wire. Do a search in this thread; it's here.

Yup.

Of course. Not rocket science. Just get the oil from the turbo back into the pan.
 
Hey TimG, just a simple question to quelch my nerves. I have a 4g63NT bottom end (block and girdle). I'm going to have it machined and completely built (forged everything). Being that I read that there is nothing really different between the turbo and NA blocks besides the squirters, I should be ok with it right? I'm just being so apprehensive because I havn't really seen anyone just ask "Am I able to use a built NT bottom end and a 4g63T head, tranny, etc. and be str8?"

well the head yes... the tranny and flywheel you might want to change. the turbo clutch and flywheel are diffrent size and will not if with the non turbo tranny so if you plan on going with a act clutch or somthing like that you will need to change the transmission. Ive heard that the turbo tranny is stronger then the non turbo but im not totally sure. you might want to ask around on that one good luck. o yeah you did get trubo compression pistions correct?

If this was toward my reply, I think you missed it. The only thing that is from a non turbo is the block and main girdle, which is going to be completely built. Everything else needed is going to come from my GSX... Of course I did, manley rods, wiesco pistons .20 over, 2.4 crank, acl bearings, arp mains...

Unless you have a European version of the 2G N/T blocks, someone lied to you. 2G N/T blocks are 420a Chrysler motors, which isn't any secret. Take a few (5-6) pictures of the block and post them up.
 
Here are the pics. I think it's from a euro, and if that's the case... where the hell did this guy get it... but now I have it!!! :thumb: It's pretty clean! And what's even crazier (and I just didn't realize it until now) are the unique, embedded oil squirters!

That looks like a 2G 7-bolt turbo motor. I'm 90% sure but maybe someone else can chime in.

The oil squirters are like that in the 2g's? That's strange! Only the 6 bolt have the bolt on squirters?

Bringing this thread back to life before i order my short block parts. I just want to confirm which route to go.

-What i have now: 1g JDM 7-bolt 4g63 Turbo engine (not so good condition.)
-I have a N/T 1g 6 bolt long block lying around the garage
-i've spent the last 7 hours searching and reading on this forum about converting n/a block and be used for turbo application.
-problem is that most posts are dated very old and most who tried then only can boost up to 14-18psi max.
-most who i asked in other forums who have answered about this post (i as well) lean towards using the 6bolt N/A block.

***what i think is important to note is that im shooting for 400whp.***

-i have meth injection, dsmlink, brand new OEM 2g pistons and rings, hx35, 510cc fuel injectors, walbro 255, upgraded fuel lines, AFPR, FMIC.
-dont have the money to go forged internals
-about to buy:
**clevite main and rod bearings
**ARP main, rod, and head studs
**clutch kit and lightened flywheel
**850cc FIC injectors
**cams, valves, and retainers

i have a few questions just to make sure before i buy the above mentioned parts coz most are 6 or 7 bolt specific:

1. I've read that with forged internals you dont need oil squitters. Is it really necessary if to have them squitters using only OEM 2g turbo pistons and 1g rods?

2. can i boost around 25-30 psi with the N/T block? (i do have meth injection.)

3. Is the N/A fuel rail the same with turbo fuel rail? if not, can i use my 2g fuel rail on the 6bolt?

Either block i choose will go to the machine shop to be rebuilt.

Please feel free to chime in. Thoughts, experience, theories, ideas. Thanks a lot!

1. There is no issue in regards to cooling the stocker pistons. I did it for 4 years before I went forged. The issue I see is the costs to machine 2G pistons on 1G rods. Pricey.

2. I boost 35psi on the street on the n/t block. Mind you, forged internals but I wouldn't hesitate if I had stocker TURBO pistons. I wouldn't dare if I had n/t pistons.

3. Fuel rail is the same for all 2.0L 1G DSMs.
 
My brother is beating on his n/t motor pretty hard. I swapped in the turbo pistons, no oil squirters. We're pushing the outer fringes of the small 16g map, about 38lb/min. No issues at all. 155psi compression across the board, so no cracking pistons or overheated rings.

thanks for your inputs. Im definitely going to use OEM 2g Turbo Pistons and mate it with the stock 1g which from my understanding the rods and cranks for N/A and TURBO are the same. Please correct me if wrong.

At any rate, the machining to match the 2g pistons and 1g rods will not be as pricey here in our country so im not worried about that.

actually when i blew my 7bolt motor 2 years ago, i checked the rods and the crank of the turbo 7bolt vs. the N/A crank and rods, and surprisingly they also have the same part number!
 
I see this is two years old... maybe I'm behind the curve.

I've recently gotten fed up with the NT aspect of my engine. As I was going to rip it apart and replace the piston rings... I may as well dump a little money into it... that's when I found this thread. Turboing an NT!

So I'll post my detailed questions, and hopefully I can get an answer in 2 years! ;D

1 : What tools are required for this setup?
2 : What size turbo is recommended? Stock 1G will be okay?
3 : In regards to a manifold, would a 1G turbo exhaust manifold be adequate?
4 : I've read a lot on cams. Keeping NT cams in should make it more agressive?
5 : I'll be doing this with the block in the car as I don't have the equipment to pull and mount it. How will this effect the upgrade?
6 : Installing the Knock Sensor with the stock 1GNT ECu is effective?
7 : I have a GST Stock fuel pump in my car, will that suffice?
8 : I am afraid of boaring. How can I hone and do this without .20 boaring?
9 : What is the max recommended boost for NT pistons? What is the max for stock 1G Piston and Rods?
10a : Has anyone completed this?
10b : If anyone has completed this, what was the cost after completion?
10c : If anyone has completed this, what was the HP gain?
