New Shootout 2026 scramble!

COMPLETED a tear down and complete restoration of my dream GSX. Always wanted the A87 paint code and I finally have the perfect "rust free" base to start with.

Showoff! 😁

....thats f***ing sweet!

Dude holy smokes 😍 it looks sexy with all that work bro. So update for me I had to postpone the rebuild sadly the monsoon season started so my driveway is a river right now. But good news my buddy has a shop I can use soooo keeping my fingers crossed it will be soon.

Chugging right along! Finally put power to the ecu and so far everything looks really good. Also turned the car over and we have oil pressure and compression! So far it’s looking good to at least MAKE shootout, but we will see. Tuning starts next week. Oh and got a fan issue fixed, drivers side fan was not working but troubleshot it and it was installer error LOL.

Finally got the freaking oil cooler mounted as well. Plumbing the AN like from the accumulator that’s mounted behind the rear seats.

Don’t mind the finger LOL..

Looking good!

I used a b&m cooler and used the 97-99 charcoal canister bracket for the base. The side is mounted on aluminum angle and the rear lower is also aluminum sheet stock I cut. The rear upper bracket is actually the oem horn bracket that I modified to hold it onto the small metal area behind the bumper. Pretty wild I know, but should work awesome here. I would imagine a trans cooler could definitely work here as well, but the lines would be pretty long and awkward to route I would think.

I was just out testing my DIY e-bike build on a big hill by my house, and I saw a DSM pulled over, looked like the dude was tuning it. Turns out it was Dusty! Car is looking good man!
Dude that’s so crazy we have lived so close to each other and didn’t know it. Also, sorry I was so distracted, Kevin Jewer was helping me through the wot tune!

Been a little quiet with the updates but here is what’s going on with the build. I am still really really pushing to paint the car before shootout but it’s not looking good. Running out of days LOL. But finally got the car driving and now tuning. Had some hiccups during the first start ups that were of course installer error. But nothing major and now the car is starting WOT tuning.

Ended up having vacuum leaks and a dead “new” alternator so the entire intake/injector rail has to come out to get another alternator in.

THEN, during the first test drive the freaking rear DSS axles were popping in and out, so ripped them out and built a set of oem with Evo inner cup axles.

Next WOT pull and no axles issues or clutch issues. Here she is looking all sexy without some clothes on.

And yes, she will be lowered LOL, not looking like an SUV sitting there. But since I’m going in and out of my humped driveway a lot, she is raised up to avoid any unfortunate scrapes.

This build is awesome, I love it. I should also stop watching it because I promised myself I would keep my 1G OEM+ and watching the threads where people go nuts give me too many terrible ideas.

So against all better judgement I decided to start the body work three weeks before shootout LOL. BUT, tuning is 90% done on pump gas.. still have to swap to e85 but pump will work for now. Here are some body work pics, and god bless all the professional body work guys out there. I hate it and it’s sooooooo time consuming to get perfect.

Have an apt to get the front windshield and quarter glass next week. Fought the final two seams I had not stripped and new seam sealer installed.

Doors are next! Then front bumper since I’m still fitting it to the huge front mount. More to come soon.

So far it is on track to be completed, but we will see LOL. Thankfully it does not need a ton of work, just some spots here and there. Have to get it sexy so that tuners sticker looks even better on it haha!

I am sorry for missing this earlier! I did an oem+ build a couple of years ago and it was really fun and rewarding in the end. The problem was that I was always scared to mess something up or break a perfect piece etc, so this build I decided to go all out. Not hack up and cut, but definitely have more fun a liberties with it. Do whatever your heart tell you to man and just enjoy it.
