I've still got the heart for the 1gs...In fact, I'm probably going to be picking one up (auto) and looking to hook it up on E85 with a 14b or 16g and some goodies....one day, hopefully gun for the elusive 14b awd record :)

ALSO...Mod's...I've followed what steps I'm able to at this point with sending an email request for information on the Vendor sign up page, and also PMed Ludachris regarding vendorship, with no response on either attempt. Since I will be looking to sell these parts towards the end of september, what can I do so that I don't get banned from the site? I know patience is a virtue, but it has been 2+ weeks ;)

LOL...Clear valve cover. I'm actually looking to fabricate a carbon fiber piece that covers the entire valve cover and the upper timing cover. Something similar to a full engine cover that most of the newer cars get.

Did I tell you that I have one of those in the works right now? I dont remember telling you about it so its kinda strange that you would bring that one up. Sounds like our designs are a little different though. Mine leaves the valve cover exposed and just covers up all the other junk in the engine bay that you really cant do much with. Ill have some pics up when its hafway presentable.

AHHHH, but you did tell me. You were talking about a full cover to cover the garbage around the intake manifold and injectors and such. Mine was going to be designed more in line with the Scion TC cover...if that one made sense :)

But what if it were brown rice??? LOL I kid, I kid. I have no intentions of ever producing, or attemting to produce a clear valve cover. I dont want to take the chance of plastic melting into the motor...and the only other thing I could think of would be moulding plexiglass, but after it was done...plexi has such a tendency to crack and break, it again seems like it could do more harm than good. But if there is one out there, somewhere, for any car...please link me to it and I'll look into it. I still have no desire to make it, but it would peak my interest :)

Edit: Dang it, you peaked my interest. What if there were a valve cover offered, with a core charge, that was powdercoated (or polished), but area above the cams only clear. Basically, remove this area, fab in some lexan, remove the lexan and powder coat, seal lexan and ship. Interested yet?

My issue was with full valve covers. After some research, apparently, as long as the oil is kept clean its really not too bad. It'd be nice if you could find something similar to rainex, but for oil...LOL...Spray it on the inside and have the oil bead up and roll off. I think the clear covers just over the cams would look pretty good, as long as the silicone was rockin pretty well :)

If I can make it the way I'm thinking for the 4g, I can honestly make it for anything...for those who would be interested.

Well I guess its a NO for the clear valve cover. Still I'll find someone that could fabricate one it the future. Using some form of high temp clear material.

Anyways onto something else.
Schroder, how about a carbon fiber fp race manifold heat shield? I guess jfm fabrications dicontinued theres. So if you plan on making one or the like, I'll seriously buy one.

The demand is HIGH for a CF moonroof (ie glass replacement on the 2g sunroof). I am quite tired of that heavy glass personally, and I NEVER use it.

Why has this never been marketed?

Theres more work that goes into making a mold and getting the correct fitment than most people think. The CF moonroof looks to be an easier one so Im not 100% sure on why it hasnt been done. If my order of tooling coat and epoxy resin ever shows up, Id be open to make a functional piece if there was enough people committed to buying it for a decent price.

For a decent price I'd buy one instantly. I wouldn't care if it were functional or just a plug...I would kind of rather have a plug.

Im sitting in my garage staring at mine right now. The only issue Im seeing is sticking the mounting brackets in the part. Theyre a pretty simple setup but the only issue I can see myself running into is that I would have to position them almost perfectly on every piece. I might have a few ideas for it though. I kinda got it from a composite cold air/ram air box Ive been working on for the last few days.

The key to solving that problem is to make a jig that holds it all in place. When we made a few hoods that needed hardware in a specific spot we made a jig that bolted to the mold that allowed us to place the hardware in the correct location. Now it may be a little different because we would put a chunk of aluminum in the part first and layed everything up and then when it was cured the jig would bolt on and allow us to drill and tap the holes in the correct spot. If you choose to use aluminum in your part make sure you properly prep it and wrap it in fiberglass to prevent it from having a reaction with the carbon.

Sorry I've been out of the loop guys. I just made the move down to SC (north augusta) and am getting settled in. The money for the supplies will now not be available to me until the end of August (stupid last job). If I can manage the funds, I'm going to buy enough to do one piece, but I'm not sure yet...At the latest, the projects will start at the beginning of September (once supplies arrive).

Instead of a solo spark plug cover and solo upper timing cover, I am strongly considering making a "cover" that includes both the valve cover and the upper tc...something similar to what toyota/scion did with the TC's. Let me know if you guys would even be interested in something like this. If not, it may become a one off piece for me, or a limited run for a few select members. I have not forgotten you all, I have just had limited access to the sites over the last week and a half!

As for powdercoating, please remember that powder only bonds with metals (well...mainly LOL, so for the middle taillight piece, I'd be more than happy to spray it for you...but powder just doesn't seem logical.

EDIT: Alright guys...I think I found a way around some of the financial things, just to work with it to get it right for you all. The first thing I'll be making will be the carbon upper timing cover. If you all are interested in the full valve cover/upper timing cover piece that I was talking about, I can fab one up and take orders from there. If not, I'll probably be making the upper timing cover and spark plug covers first. The resin will still be west systems, just not the super clear resin with UV and the fibers will be a 2x2 twill fiberglass weave (identical to carbon fiber weaves, just fiberglass) so that I can do some inexpensive mock ups. Reply back and let me know guys!

If you want to stand out from the crowd of carbon guys I suggest using some different weaves as well. Also carbon/kevlar looks great for spark plug covers. Not sure what suppliers you are dealing with but if you want any names or anything like that of great people to do business with send me a pm and i'll help you out.

+1 on the carbon fiber sunroof plug

and +1000 on a oem 1g gsx carbon fiber spoiler. Clean though, no holes for antenna or wiper, no break light, etc.

A classy 1g front lip would be sick as well.

The goal will be to bring the lip, but first thing on the board will be the upper timing cover, OR, the valve cover/upper timing cover combo. A one piece deal that cleans up the entire look of the valve cover. If anyone is interested, let me know...I am VERY down for doing something like this, but need to know from you guys. Still waiting on a few things before I can begin sales (like money and R/D), but the price for an upper (group buy) should be around 80 to 90 bucks, or the full valve cover/spark plug cover/upper timing cover would be around 150 to 175. Based on simplicity, I'd probably look to pop out a few spark plug covers too, around 80 bucks or so also, if anyone is interested. Again, they will not be for sale now...and will not sell via this site until I am a vendor, but I wanted to see who would actually be not just interested, but actually purchasing one of these when available (a month or so).
