Going to get her from storage in the next day or so. Will start a build journal as soon as she's here. Mar 12, 2015

Haven't done anything to the car, been busy finding a garage to put her in and am now working on a trailer so the car can be moved.

Ad on to what you and cracked were talking about.
I have accidentally shifted from 5th to 2nd before and started to let out the clutch and before 5,000rpm I realized it was revving way to quickly and just pushed in the clutch, no noticeable damage was done, and I already had an unhealthy transmission before this happened.

I appreciate it man, and I found a guy in florida with a few AWD's should be Picking one up in September!

There is that option/danger for sure, and yes I have. Transmission is still going strong. It's never been anything drastic because if you try to go from 4 into 1 or skip a gear it'll throw itself into neutral. If you're quick you can throw the shifter itself into neutral and save it, but the risk is there. But I've only done that once or twice. After driving it awhile you get used to it. If you're that worried about it though, look into forcedfour.com. Their shift-box is AMAZING, and the basic one is cheap and includes protection from such like that.

This build has taken about 6 months to plan. The doors could probably be finished an about a month, it took a week to go from stock to what you see, and that car was driven daily and i only had about 5 hours on weekdays to work on it. The whole car probably won't be done for about a year since along with doors i am "refreshing" the engine, redoing most of the wires (for the whole car, not just engine), redoing most of the interior, fabricating and installing partial roll cage with 4 or 5 point racing seat belt harnesses, and doing few more outside mods.
One thing i realised already: even if cars came out factory just as people want it those same people would still be modding something on them, even if it's something small.

I found pics of the factory built versions. Pretty sweet. Really wanting to see yours when done. Saw the targa top ones too. I want to do that one day, when I have a hard top DSM. I know it involves a lot, but still have a good idea for getting it done.

Some places in Europe turn 1Gs into pretty awesome t-tops where the roof is removed competly. What they do is install some braces under the car. Since i did not have a lift that was not possible.

Very nice. I think your choice to use half doors was wise, as it'll compensate for some of the structural integrity you've removed from the top. Didn't know about the factory ones, so I guess I'll be doing some research.

I've always been facinated by DeLorean cars but could not afford one (about $50,000 now since someone bought out the company and started making them again), so started thinking about gullwing DSM. Ruring my research i found out that about 20 cars were made factory with doors like that (go on google and search "gullwing dsm") and some/most of them were used in some Japanese TV show. The mod appearently doubled the price of the car back in the day, and since they are so rare, they are very expencive now. For few reasons i went with "half doors" instead of full like the factory ones are, main reason being that this way i can legally drive with no doors during summer. That is also why the mirrors are now on front fenders.

Yeah, hopefully not. Just out of curiousity, what prompted you to do this project? I don't think you're crazy or anything, but never seen such a thing be attempted to a DSM.

Neither can i, but it might take a while. Hopefully not that long.

Spiffy. Can't wait to see the final out come.

Yes, that's what i'm doing. So far it looks and works good, although is far from finished. Will do a build thread about it soon.

Are you attempting a gull-wing door setup? That's how it looks form your profile pic anyway...
