What's best for a stock rebuild?
Yes, I know - hundreds of threads. But I gotta get past the probationary period so I'll be asking mundane things I want to know.

Single? Dual? What's the word?

The stock springs would be the best (and cheapest) for your stock build. You don't need more than you need, the excess pressure would become unnecessary stress to the valve train components. But if you have a plan to go with aftermarket cams that require upgrade springs, get some common aftermarket springs such as Kiggly high pressure or steel beehive, GSC, Kelford, Manley, BC, Ferrea, Supertech etc etc. The Kiggly high pressure beehive is very common for us, those would cover all off the shelf cams in the market. Any aftermarket springs would work just fine with stock-ish build. Except Kiggly "Race only" springs, this is something you don't want to use on a daily car.

If you would happen to need to change springs later on, there are proper tools for doing that and they work very well. I have a pair of them....Eurotool or equivalent.

Like others said, for a true stock build with stock cams stock springs will do exactly as intended. I ran stock springs with older bc 272 cams and did see valve float over 7k rpm, some people get away with a milder cam on stock springs, I technically did but not efficiently at that point being it made it pointless to rev pass 7k (which would’ve been beneficial with the 63/68 Borg Warner I was running), but that’s the chance you take.

If you’re going with a mild cam selection and want cheap reassurance then stock Evo 8 beehive springs are a cheap option, otherwise if you’ll be using stock cams and no plans of anything more stock springs will be all you’ll ever need.

If I was doing this stock build, I would used Manley single springs. You can use stock seats and stock retainers with those.

I would use new springs though, OEM or Manley. The age of springs is a concern. There is a thread on somewhere on this sight about used valve springs that all came in under spec, I found it as I was typing this. https://www.dsmtuners.com/threads/how-to-test-valve-springs.341287/

I figured age would be a problem so I'm making the purchase for some sock single springs. I'll check out this thread next.

Yes age is a concern as the they do fatigue, but if this is staying NT with stock cams and you’re not banging it off the rev limiter every time you drive it, then what you have now won’t be a problem. But like mentioned, if you want new that also wouldn’t hurt anything either.

At this point and the age of oem parts, I would just skip right to Kiggly Steel street springs, not too strong, stock seats, will give you a little overhead for future upgrades and the price is right. Not to mention you support some great people in the community.
