Now, I'm working on a couple things here. Did some reading and such.

What I'm contemplating\trying to figure out is if I should get new Valve Springs.

So for anyone that's done a 4g63 head here's a couple questions.

Info: I am going to be running Delta 272 Cams, upgraded lifters, stock valves, rollers, cam gears.

Should I look into getting a full on upgraded valve spring\retainer kit? I also noticed Slowboy Racing has JUST upgraded valve springs on their site, they are Brian Crower springs. Slowboy Racing, Inc. :: Mitsubishi :: DSM :: Engine :: Head Parts :: Springs / Retainers :: Brian Crower :: BC 4G63 Valve Springs

I was doing some research on here, and there was a topic talking about how our stock retainers\locks are actually quite strong and we can just upgrade the springs? What are thoughts on this comment?

I won't be tracking this car every weekend, or revving to the moon every 2nd shift. Some spirited driving at times yes. I tend to 'baby' my car so to speak. I'm saying that to offset ideas of valve float and such. I don't run the RPM's up super high all the time.

What's everyone's thoughts on this..

EDIT: One other thing I was thinking on this is should I just get the machine shop to test my springs, and if they pass the test just leave them and install the cams. And if they fail then look into springs, or springs\retainers..

Evo 8/9 valve springs and retainers are stronger than our stockers, and can be had for cheap. They are a good upgrade and would work fine with those cams.

Not personally.

I'm sure if you put up a WTB ad in the marketplace, and maybe browse the Evo forums, you'll find some.

I have had good luck installing the BC1100 springs in place of wore out stockes.
they will work just fine with the stock retainers (the stock retainers are 14g and the BC Ti are about 6g)

make sure the springs are set up properly when they are installed, the spring installed height needs to be measured for each valve and shimmed to have the correct installed height.
here is some more info on the valve springs for the 4g

this is how valve springs are tested...

sorry to bring up 4-yr-old thread...

i've searched and read several threads, but did not get quite close to seeing anything about installing springs and measuring the installed height DIY...

does this mean that installing these springs is not a DIY thing, considering that the installed height needs to be measuread?

i was wanting to do this myself...

thanks!

No there are no real DIY ways to set springs.

Some special tools are needed, to measure the installed height and to check the valve spring pressures.

thanks for the pm reply Dale.

so the install needs a machine shop and is not plug-and-play?

the bc100s are among the cheaper ones, but i'd have to add the machine shop fees...
