Injectors came back from FIC today. I can’t say enough good things about them honestly. I asked if I could buy one of the neat little blue boxes that new injectors come in, mentioning how I've never gotten one before, and they threw it in for free. I know it's not like a big expensive item, but I am so about the small things like this. This is the stuff that shows you give a crap about customers happiness. FIC fan for life from now on.

But, aside from that, I found the flow test to be quite fascinating. These are supposed to be 1050's, that's what they say on the side...but look at the flow numbers.

So these are actually like 1150's more than they are 1050's. Intriguing.

Again, look how cool that is. I love memorabilia like this. So cool.

But, I love my wife and kid don't get me wrong, but anytime they need to "just run to the store" means that my entire day is just completely gone. So I didn't get a chance to swap brakes, but I did get a chance to test fit the rotors and calipers. It fits perfect, and as a bonus I threw in a couple comparison pictures of the OEM 1G single piston rotor vs the Outlander one.

Probably gonna paint the caliper and bracket red, but either way I think it looks awesome.

It's definitely bigger. Full inch bigger diameter wise. And as I tell my wife constantly, that extra inch matters!

Hopefully get the injectors and brakes installed/bled and ready to rock tomorrow or sunday. Gonna meet a man about a horse tomorrow so not sure how much of the day I'll have to work on the Talon. We'll see though.

How long did the whole process take? Thinking about sending mine out to be cleaned before I start trying to tune.

They arrived at FIC very late Friday evening, and they were back in my hands today. So honestly, it only took like 3-4 days(not including the weekend because duh) once they had the injectors in their hands to inspect, flow, box, ship them out, and them get to me. And I didn't even check the box for "expedited service". They're fast AF.

Alright, another day full of running and shopping because I have extra cash in my pocket to burn. I was gonna buy another DSM, but honestly after thinking it over and seeing the car...I just don't want another project right now. It's missing a gas tank and needs to be assembled and missing a few interior bits...basically the same thing as the beginning of this project. I walked away from it, and now I've got a decent chunk to play with. I paid off a bunch of bills, bought myself one of the updated Milwaukee Fuel 3/8ths Stubby Impact, and otherwise had a good time.

Anyway, when I got home I decided to do at least a few things to the DSM. I bolted up the new injectors, and bolted on the new starter. Two things.

1) The old starter was so much worse off than I thought. Jesus, this new starter spins this engine like it's missing spark plugs by comparison. It took me off guard, I thought something was wrong or unplugged.

2) They didn't clean the injectors or anything...but I swear the car idles smoother and starts up easier. This thing purrs like a kitten on cold starts now and the stuttering when it's cold is almost entirely gone. Sadly, I've developed two new fuel leaks though. I don't know why or how, but both o-rings on both of the fittings on either side of the fuel rail have decided to leak. And I think the o-rings they included with the injectors as a replacement are a tiny bit too small, because the spacers are...damp..on injectors #1 and #4. IDK, maybe by flow testing them it cleaned it out or knocked some stuff loose? Now fuel pressure is higher as a result? I swear there was no leaks before...IDK.

Tomorrow I'm gonna go get some fresh o-rings and try to fix the leak. Hopefully I can finally install the big brakes too. Either way, pretty excited to see how she does.

What starter did you go with? I bought a remanned acdelco and might be worse than my unknown age probably OEM one I replaced it with.

Honestly, I've had really good luck with BBB products. I legitimately almost bought an AC Delco one, but the BBB industries Alternator I bought worked like a champ, so I went with their 1.2kw rated new starter instead of a reman. This thing is a beast. I don't expect it to last as long as the OEM one...but man it's crazy how much of a difference it made.

I might hop on that bandwagon. I'm definitely a bit disappointed in this new one. Doesn't seem to even be able to spin the engine over 200rpm even after upgrading the battery cables, grounds and adding 0 gauge grounds. Battery is new( less than a year I think) but that doesn't mean it's good I suppose.

Happy to see your car coming along man, I know how good it feel after the constant kicks to the balls stop coming and you actually kind of get to enjoy stuff.

I legit thought my battery was suspect, and keep in mind this car has been sitting with the battery hooked up for like two weeks while it's been cold(for Florida) and down waiting for injectors and various parts. I really thought I was gonna have to jumpstart it because I thought the battery was weak, but figured I'd try it anyway. After like 10-12 key cycles chasing a fuel leak, I bumped it and honestly it was so strong I thought something was wrong. Lol. Its like starting it without spark plugs(slight exaggeration).

So, moral is, it legitimately could just be a weak starter making it seem like the battery is weak. Because this thing RIPPED the engine to start even after 2 weeks of cold inactivity.

And I appreciate the words. It's definitely had it's downs, but the ups are so nice. I've come to depend on you guys to help me out when I'm feeling defeated and bummed, so the kick in the ass is often what I need and come looking to find. Appreciate you and everyone else who've helped me along the way either with knowledge or encouragement/kick in the butt.

Does anyone know what size the o-rings are on the fuel rail? Specifically for the feed fitting and FPR fittings. I need new ones but having a little trouble finding the info. @enriquez2000 , in your 200 set of viton o-rings, which one worked for you? Can I toss you like $5 and you send me a few if you have any left?

Let me grab one if my rails and circle back

Do you just need the 2?

So yeah, pretty stoked at todays update. I still haven't been able to install the brakes, because my wife informed me our toilet was leaking so my day was spent running to Home Depot, buying and installing a new toilet. Sigh.

But, after I got home I at least wanted to try to fix the leak at the fuel rail so while I was out I bought a universal metric o-ring kit from the parts store, some hi temp all purpose grease, and some brake lube for future projects. After installing the toilet and it working out great, I wanted to at least see about the leak. So I installed the new o-rings with some lube and they slid right in. They slid in so easily, I was actually thinking they weren't the right size and that they were gonna leak. But, I was at least gonna try it.

Key cycles and let it build pressure....and to my surprise it holds. There's no leaks, it's all dry! Woohoo. So, time to start it. Start it up....holy s**t it idles smooth now. I wonder....can I get it to idle down to 750RPMs like the OEM calls for? Busted out the laptop, set the idle to 750RPMs...and to my amazement...well..just watch the video below.

It has never idled below 1000RPMs since I've had it. I do think I fixed a few vacuum leaks related to wrong size hoses in my wire-tucking adventure...but the big fix was getting the injectors flow-tested. I don't know how, but getting them tested must have cleaned them out just a bit. Or FIC cleaned them AND flowed them and only charged me for a flow test. The filter basket at the top of the injector is definitely different, and apparently when talking to them their process is to remove the old filter baskets and then flow test them. That must have been the fix because yeah. It idles so smooth(comparatively) now.

It did struggle a little bit after extended idling at 750RPM to which it eventually died...but timing needs to be adjusted there because it's higher up in the map due to low vacuum, and the fuel map needs to be tweaked too(ECU is pulling like 5-10% pretty consistently there) so with those two things fixed, I really think it'll be able to purr at 750RPMs like a champ.

Pretty cool man. I really didn't think getting these injectors looked at would help...but apparently they did. It also hot restarts easier. Still takes a little effort, but waaaay less effort than before.

I ended up fixing them with the o-rings I had, but I'd like to have actual viton ones for the future. So just two would be all I'd need! Appreciate the heck out of it.

Tried to install the calipers today and it was a big failure. Someone else here pointed out they had issues with Centric brand calipers, but I tried to give them a chance. I'm here to tell you, screw Centric. Avoid them at all costs. I installed the caliper, and went to bleed the brakes and the freakin' bleeder screw was stripped. IDK how that even happens. Not to mention they use a massive 1/2 or 3/4" impact to tighten the caliper bolts and those almost stripped coming out too.

I ordered some Raybestos replacements that have the proper brake line fitting I need instead of using some hacked together adapter stuff and just reuse my stock lines. I've used the raybestos R-line caliper before and it was good, but I'll keep yall updated on how these go.

Not gonna lie, I'm super duper bummed. I was looking forward to testing these brakes out today but it's not to be. Oh well.

Also: for future reference...1G brake lines work fine with 2G style calipers. IDK why no one thought of this, but just use a copper crush washer and thread the 1G brake line in the caliper as normal. It's the same thread pitch, and the crush washer seals it(instead of the flare fitting that seals it like on stock 1G). It held pressure great. So honestly...don't bother using different lines or an adapter unless you're upgrading anyway.

That sucks to hear. I've used Centric on many brake install parts and even rebuild parts with great success over the years. Never used a caliper though.

I've heard their rebuild parts themselves are good, just whoever and however they assemble the calipers just isn't it.

How much are brand new 2G calipers with one stripped out bleeder screw worth? Lol.

Maybe this applies to new calipers too :p

Are the threads in the caliper damage or just the bleeder?

Threads in the caliper itself came out. Bleeder screw looks mint. It's not even phased, barely an inconvenience.

I deal with this kind of stuff on daily basis at my shop. I usually use centric for calipers a lot. I have had issue like this before. But only nice part is I call supplier and say I need another one asap.
Quality of reman stuff has definitely gone down.

This isn't DSM related but I don't know really where else to put this, but I swear the most idiotic things happen to me.

Came outside to start the Edge to go to work, and it wouldn't start. Battery has struggled on a previous occasion but I thought it was a fluke, well, apparently not.

So, not having a jump box or jump starter to my name I removed the battery from the Talon and hooked it up to the Edge to jump start it like I've done before aaaaand....nothing. Not even a click. The Edge was stuck in some kind of "having a stroke" mode where things in the engine bay were just infinitely clicking. So I left it alone, and for some idiotic reason I put my ONLY key to the Edge in the vehicle. Somehow the door got shut, and it was then the Edge decided to un-stroke itself and turn everything on. Oh...and lock the doors. With my only key inside. It wouldn't unlock at all, and Ford makes these damn things nigh-impossible to break into. I tried. I did everything.

Ended up having to break the damn window because my house keys and everything are on that ring, and my $1200 laptop was inside as well as my entire meals for the work weekend. Absolutely idiotic, considering Ford advertises these as being impossible to lock your key in the car. Apparently I found the loophole of operations to do just that.

So yeah. God that was an infuriating start to the work weekend. Had to get a supervisor to come pick me up because the Talon is down with no brakes right now. I just have to hope I didn't kill the battery in the Talon by jumping the Edge.

Oh, and even better, when I angrily removed the jumper cables from the talon's battery, I forgot to remove the positive cable from the edge's battery...and of course the cable touched each other and killed power to the Edge. No response from the Fob, from the button, nothing. No power anywhere to the car.

I swear man, life is so much harder when you're stupid. All of this would've been fixed had I ordered/bought a battery jump box a few days ago like I was wanting to. Someone pray for me/send me good vibes please.

The domino effect you have got to love it. I've been there a time or two. I'll be sending you some good luck or whatever I have left at least. On the bright side at least the jumpers didn't touch while still connected to the talon.

Because of how the talon and edge are parked I had to take the entire battery out of the talon. Lol. So yeah.
