Spare keys my friend... spare keys can be a life saver. I keep hooks in the house and in the shop with extras. If you're locked out of all structures, SOL. I have spare keys to each structer hidden around too though. I've been locked out of damn near everything so backup plans are literally mapped out.

If it makes you feel any better, I once had a 2G and both door handles snapped at the same time. Driver side first, then passenger immediately after. I was far from home so no tools handy. Had to crawl through the trunk with people watching as I grunted and flopped my way in. This car had full interior so it wasn't easy.

I just don't know why it freaked out and locked everything. Even the hatch wouldn't open, and it ALWAYS opens with a foot swipe or the button. Even when the car is locked, if you have the key it's opening. I swear that was the weirdest shit ever.

IDK. But yeah, lesson learned here. Gonna have to spend a decent chunk on a spare key from Ford, and a portable jump box like Chad/DreamChaser posted above. Still can't believe this damn thing made me bust out the window.

Gonna be honest here, if I was in a slightly better spot I would take this damn thing to the dealer and just trade it in on a new model of some kind. Hopefully the shattered window made it learn its lesson.

Because of how the talon and edge are parked I had to take the entire battery out of the talon. Lol. So yeah.
Oh so you didn't have to worry about that end anyways. Well dang hopefully the edge isn't to hurt. I wonder how many modules those things have.

I tend to look at these unexplainable, infuriating events as the universe or possibly dead relatives from the beyond trying to throw you a casual hint, that youve left yourself exposed and prone to a disaster that you hadnt thought about. This happened to you while trying to go to work, but couldve possibly happened while there was an emergency going on. Now that you will go and get spare keys made, that is one less surprise youll have to deal with in the future when having a spare key could be the difference between simple/serious or life/death.

Threw the 1 piston caliper back on the Talon this morning when I got home from work, bled it, and drove it to work tonight. Can I just say...I love this pain in the ass 90's shit box. Lol.

I've been suspecting for awhile that my "ssqv 4" that I bought was a knock-off. The OG BOV that came on this car was an original SSQV either a 1st gen or 2nd gen iteration. So, on a whim, I threw that back on the car because I was just never pleased with the 'ssqv 4' sound. It fluttered/surged like it wasn't opening, and when it did open it was suuuuuper quiet. Just not happy.

Fast forward today. Oh my GOD is this OEM/1st Gen HKS SSQV amazing. It's super responsive, it's got that iconic SSQV sound...so much more enjoyable. This is what I wanted. God is it glorious.

This thing doesn't want to idle on its own now for some reason, but otherwise the drive went great. Probably a tune issue since so much has changed. Hopefully its not an ECU issue because I'm still on the tan/metal ISC that kills ECUs. But for now, it runs and drives which is more than I can say for the Edge.

As a bonus: heater in this car works without leaks! FTW!

Good news! Recheck your globals now that fuel is flowing

Still so stoked that the heater works. It was such an unknown to me, and with it being low 30's here in Florida I wasn't looking forward to not having heat in the vehicle. One step closer to a true street car. Working heat is 50% of the "working heat and A/C" that's planned for this thing.

Alright the drive home was…informational.

Drove it nice and easy the whole way home until I got on my test road and did a third gear pull. Let off and noticed a shit ton of smoke coming out the back. My first thought was blown HG but coolant temps stayed rock steady. No smoke under acceleration or idle.

Great.

I test again it only smokes under decel after getting into boost pretty decently. Light boost is no issue.

Idles perfectly after dead time adjustment so I really don’t think the HG is hurt and no smoke under boost makes me feel like the turbo is tight.

This PCV valve is like 10 years old and sat outside that whole time. Reaaaaaally hoping it’s a bad pcv valve because it never smoked like this until I hooked the stock pcv system back up. Gonna compression test Monday after work just to confirm. But yeah. I really really hope it ain’t the rings that let go. Maybe it’s copium but I gotta believe if it hurt the rings it would idle like ass and smoke when I revved. But we’ll see.

Reeeeaaaaallllyyy hoping it’s the pcv system that couldn’t handle boost. If it’s not then I’m still gonna drive it, just gonna have to prioritize a built engine.

Smoking on decel can also be valve stem seals. Vacuum pulls the oil in so could make sense.

Just weird how it didn’t do it until I hooked the stock PCV system back up. Weirder things have happened though. Especially to me.

Got your letter btw Mr. Dupp. ROFL LOL

i would start with pcv... ive had weird issues. Did my valves seals one time and was proud of myself for doing it while on the car. Went to test drive and turbo seals blew on the drive.

These cars sometimes want you to find everything all at once!

Glad you got them!

Great news on the Ford Edge front. I charged the battery with the help of the Talon, and the Edge started right up. It had a ton of codes, but essentially after some research what it did was it saw a spike in voltage and shut everything down to protect the electronics. After letting the Talon run and charging the battery that way, she started right up and had like 7 codes. Lol.

So yeah, no blown fuses or crazy problems. Gonna throw a new battery in it and go. Now just waiting on the new window to replace the one that got the flying Mjolnir to the face(10lb sledge I swung to bust it. I was angry and didn't wanna play around LOL )

Talon ran great but every once in awhile it tries to die. Nothing changed with the tune really except some deadtime changes. I'll diagnose it later when the Edge is back 100%.

Drove this thing to work today.

Good grief it makes you freakin' work for it but not gonna lie it's such a fun car. The turbo noises from the Green, the BOV sound from that SSQV. Love it.

It's temperamental AF and has some little gremlins popping up, but what else is new. It's got this random low speed bog now that I can't quite figure out the origin of. Hopefully it's not a relay or something electrical dying. But yeah, that's a problem for another day. Hopefully soon I can diagnose it and get her all ironed out and have it have stock-like drivability.

(If anyone is curious about the bogging issue, it occurs when I shift low RPM from 2nd to 3rd or something low RPM. It will bog down and the gauge pegs full lean/22:1 AFR. I can usually just power through it as it occurs for about a second, but it's weird. Additionally, I swear it acts like there's no baffles in the gas tank. When it's at 1/4 of a tank and it's on a steep incline where the rear bumper is at the bottom, it's like it starves it of fuel. Just...weird stuff. IDK. Maybe investing in a surge tank will help, and maybe it's wiring or tune related. Any ideas?)

(Ninja edit - after researching some Graveyard 274 cams that are FS on facebook, I stumbled upon thread after thread of people having my same exact issues. Stumble/stutter/bog at and below 2000 RPM, vacuum being -4/-6 at idle, randomly dying at idle, etc. I am honestly beginning to suspect this is just normal behavior and that these BC cams are bigger than I thought. I think they're the BC 280's or the BC274 variants. Because all of this makes a lot of sense. I may try to dial in the cam gears this week and see if that helps. Maybe 1-2* retard on exhaust and 1* advanced on intake. Any tips here?)

I felt this warranted its own post, but I took a 3rd gear pull from yesterday when the PCV or Rings noped out of the chat...and discovered something....log below but jesus CHRIST guys I hit 22lbs. Something with the boost controller must've gotten thrown out of wack because it's supposed to be on wastegate pressure. No freakin' wonder. It also went fairly lean and I had no idea why...well now I do.

Anyway...LOL. Good god. Pick it apart fellas and roast me, but enjoy as well. How ridiculous. Just gonna remove the boost controller until I hit the 500 mile mark.

I wonder how much effect cold air has on boost production too though. IAT temps were 43* at the most during the 3rd gear rip, and this was after like 20-25 minutes of driving. LOL freakin' hilarious. Can cold weather increase boost production or what?

Cold weather can absolutely increase boost pressure due to denser air. Best 1/4 mile times are early spring and fall in areas the get down to 50 degrees.

Didnt look at the log since im on my phone.

Cliff notes of the log are.

Max IAT of 43* at like 5800RPM.

Makes 15lbs @ 4000RPM and 22Llbs @5500RPM and 23.5@5800RPM.

Previous log posted of a 3rd gear pull was as follows.

Mat IAT of 90* at 6000-6500RPM

Makes 11lbs @4000RPM and 17lbs@6500-6700RPM.

NOTHING CHANGED ON BOOST CONTROLLER BETWEEN LOGS, ONLY AMBIENT TEMPERATURE.

One of the things people forget in colder weather is the ability of the gate to release pressure.

As air gets denser it can greate backpressure and give you boost creep, especially if you are on a stock frame turbo with a small internal gate.

Its pretty linear with around 4 pounds increase across the powerband.

One thing you may look at is your contoller lines to make sure they are good and not leaking.

IF its strictly cold air... you need to be tuned for that high boost so you dont lean out

It’s an FP Green with their internal wastegate so that’s a very real possibility!

Flapper valves are notorious for creep with back pressure... unbolt your exhaust at dowm pipe and see if it still happens.

Itll be loud AF but will help rule out back pressure

It wasn't really an issue in the warm weather, only now that it's 30-40* here. The open downpipe I did for a little while, and it's ungodly loud. Would be hilarious to get a little revenge on some of the idiots at the end of my road that think its funny to rev their trucks at my house though.

Mines open for now... hate it but the 3" DSS shaft rubbed on my exhaust.

🤷🏿‍♂️

Just as an FYI, hoosierdecal.com is a ripoff. Either it's out of business now, or an outright scam. I've seen someone here recommend them before so I pulled the trigger. Well, it's been two weeks and they refuse to answer any emails, or give any update on tracking or ETA. Just pure ghost town. So I've escalated my paypal claim to get a refund back. Ridiculous.

Well. F**k. Disconnected the pcv hose on the way home and it still smokes. Blows the dipstick out of the tube and sprays oil.

Checked the turbo for shaft play and it’s got significant up and down play. I guess FP Turbos just aren’t what they were because I did everything right with this thing. Guess I’ll have Justin build me an fp green knockoff that’ll actually last.

Gonna keep running this one til it blows I guess.
