Yeah it does. It’s a thermistor. Mine works and I checked it with my multimeter but the light won’t ever go off. Lol. I’m gonna ground the wire later and see if the light goes out. (And by later I mean in like a damn week when I have time off LOL)
Could also be the post on the top of the sending unit too!

Where did you find a NEW sending unit?

I am quite proud of this.

My passing control relay had a capacitor go bad, it didn’t leak but it was swole up good. I figured it was worth a try to replace it, and I’ve never messed with circuit board soldering before.

But replacing it fixed the issue entirely! Freakin stoked I didn’t need to buy a replacement!

I’m gonna pull the module back out and replace the three other capacitors after I get some solder wick. I used an old wire as a solder wick type thing but it didn’t work quite right. I also wanna buy some flux. But this is awesome.

Aaaalllmost drove the car to work today, but it was cloudy and threatening to rain. Glad I didn't because traffic was idiotic today.

But, got some parts in that I'll install this next week. New denso stock o2 sensor to replace the fouled up, potentially suspect one on the car now, another sending unit w/ working fuel level sender, new sending unit gasket. Nothing crazy, but all of it needed. Also got all the stuff to make my own boost leak tester so I don't have to keep borrowing one and going to a shop for air.

I'll assemble that this weekend too. I'm gonna try to use my tire inflator to pressurize the system and see how that goes. It's rated for "big truck" tires(not semi sized but large vehicle), and if it works I think that's useful info for potential new DSM owners and new turbo car owners in general that you don't need a complicated or expensive air compressor with air chuck. If it doesn't work, well, all I need is a complicated and possibly expensive portable air compressor. LOL :p

Fyi... i use a $50 air compressor and a schrader valve on my boost leak tester. Works great and get to 40psi no issue

Do you have a link? Is it a pancake air compressor?

Nice. I'll add the pancake compressor to my list if this one doesn't work. And the proper line and air inflator accessory kit needed. So like $100-ish.

If mine works though...I only paid like $20 for it(and it obviously includes the line and adapter for Schrader valves). I've used it countless times filling up my 245/50R20's on my Edge, and it does it pretty fast too. Curious how it'll work out. Back in the day people used a manual bicycle tire pump. LOL ROFL so I gotta believe this will work.

Let us know... i like this one because I can add smoke to the line and pressurize. I tried the bicycle pump but 40psi is tough to get

Yeah I will never go that high. Low 30’s is all I can ask and all this Green will ever make on pump is like high 20’s. But adding smoke is something I had thought about. That’s a great tool.

We'll see. I'm not crazy about having to spend an extra $60 in lines/air guns if I'm honest, but if its my only option than it's my only option. $120 for everything all in is better than $500+ I was thinking.

Plus, you can always use the compressor for other inflating jobs. They're handy to have. I picked up a smaller pancake style from harbor freight that had a bigger motor and holds 175 psi in the 3 gallon tank. It bring ls it back up to full very quickly. Some of the smaller ones take a short eternity to top back off.
Good luck!

Story time, fellas. This is actually pretty cool, to be honest.

So, ten years ago I was a die-hard Auto DSMer. I hated Manual DSMs, never wanted one, argued all day how superior autos were to deaf ears everywhere. Super young, super annoying. But, despite that, I had a good friend buy a logbooked rally car that came with a custom shift knob. He ended up sending it to me, for free. Which always puzzled me because I was like "I'm never gonna have a POS gear grinder, but I like you so I'll keep it and cherish it".

Well, fast forward to ten years down the road and here I am. Manual Transmission DSM and loving it. I've kept this thing through like moving to/from 3 states, two career changes, and my girlfriend becoming my wife and then having my beautiful baby girl. Today I finally put it on.

I actually really like how this looks and feels. It's on there pretty sturdy, but I don't plan on raping my car into gear anyway so. The cool thing I'll get a picture of later, is it wires into a power source that switches on with the headlights, and the TSI AWD and everything lights up same color as the OEM 1G gauge cluster. Super cool, I'll get a pic of that later when I feel like doing more wiring.

And this is the final picture of the date it was shipped out to me.

Full circle, man. I never would've in a billion years guessed I'd be where I am today a decade later. In a M/T DSM, powered by ECMLink(if you know, you know), and working on an ambulance. Insane.

I did also tighten the alternator up and stopped the squeaking. I'm gonna have to probably dial in more deadtime because the map is lean everywhere since I changed the diaphragm on the AFPR for a new one. Which is a good problem to have, shows the AFPR works now. But yeah. Overall, pleased with progress today. Might drive it later, might not. Fuel gauge works perfectly, shift knob is finally on a Talon TSI AWD for the first time in 10 years, alternator doesn't squeak anymore...good stuff. :) Thanks for tuning in and hearing my story.

That shift knob is super cool. Even without the lights. I want one LOL

There's a guy on FB who advertises he can still make them. They originally were made for the GVR4 guys, but the OG owner of this knob on DSMTalk reached out to him and had him make two that said TSI AWD instead of ###/2000.

I think his name is Chayce Holwig or something like that. I think if you just search all the DSM Classifieds for "shift knob" it'll pop up. Or put up a WTB ad and use my picture(s), I'm cool with it.

But yeah, I enjoy it how it feels. However if you power-shift and/or really bang-shift gears, be aware these knobs do not thread on. They're basically press fit. What I'd do on a bang-shifted car is put the knob where you want it, and drill/tap a couple holes for the allen screws on the bottom of the knob. That way they can thread in and be locked in. Zero chance of it coming off that way on a hard-shifted car.

I have always liked the feel of manual dsm's but here I am stuck with an auto. Out of the 10 or so I've owned only the non turbo ones were auto and one turbo was auto, otherwise all manual. Thats awesome that you kept that thing for so long and now it has a story to go with it.

Yeah. It's just crazy how much that happens to me though. Something will come into my life by a series of events that honestly shouldn't have happened, and it directly pays off years later. Crazy.

Just fixed the reverse lights with @steve 's help from 2016. His wiring harness article with pictures helped me find the plug that I thought I was missing. (Edit: to explain his wiring harness articles are older than that, but he helped someone in 2016 on a separate thread by linking to his thread that showed the harness and all the connections/connectors. Helped a lot!)

Another funny story, when I first got the car running on Link, I kept getting a check engine light for no knock sensor. I thought it was bad wiring, but then noticed another identical plug in the same spot that I plugged into the knock sensor and it fixed it.

Turns out the OG plug it was plugged into was my missing reverse switch plug. It's identical to the knock sensor and in the same exact area, who knew?

Plugged it in, tested it out, and bam. Bright AF reverse lights. Previous owner put LED reverse lights in, and I can tell. So stoked. I know it's stupid and small...but that's what means to most to me. So cool. Thanks steve!

Little things like new bright LEDs and headlights really make it feel better honestly.. I feel like I get more excited about instant gratification stuff like that over big upgrades like clutch, turbo and engine etc.

I still gotta finish my LED blinker thing and then sometime soon I'll fork out some $$ for those nice Morimoto LED headlights.

150% agreed. But honestly, even outside of DSMs small things mean the absolute world to me. I have a saying that I made and that's "You can't fake the small stuff". Think about it. It's easy to buy a huge bouquet of flowers once a year and do something big and showy for your wife...but how often do you do the dishes or clean the toilet to save her some time? How often do you stop and go out of your way to help someone in need even when it really inconveniences you?

So people that do small things like send me a tiny $0.50 part for free just because they're being nice are people I will take a bullet for. Because it's the small things that matter. I'm just weird though so it's not really instant gratification, I'm just like...moist over the small things. :p ROFL

Need more advice from you fellas. I've got some 1G 2 piston calipers and brackets, but they've been sitting outside for...awhile.

New calipers are like $50 a piece from rockauto. The rebuild kit is $30 total.

Should I just rebuild these and try to remove as much rust/refinish it as much as possible on the inside, or are they pretty much unrebuildable? What should I do, preferably from those who have rebuilt brake calipers before. Rebuild the ones I have, or just say screw it and buy reman ones fresh and ready to go. I've decided my next upgrade is gonna be the bigger front brakes and some good pads/rotors.
