Damn, that is frustrating. Sorry man; keep plowing ahead, it will be worth it.

I was more annoyed a few weeks ago tbh. At this point I’m more resolved than anything.

Actually have a local guy down to help so this weekend maybe we can get shit done! I’m excited. In a couple weeks I get my Christmas bonus and I’m gonna use it on a southbend SS plate and B series full face ceramic clutch kit from Tim Zimmer. Might as well. Gonna need one anyway.

Also ordered a brand new OEM slave from Jacks that’ll hopefully be here Friday. So before it’s all said and done the entire drivetrain is gonna be brand new.

New slave came in from Jacks. God I love how these new OEM parts look, man. It feels just as tight as the old one, but hopefully this one doesn't leak. Lol. So after I drop the trans tomorrow(if it doesn't rain me out), I'll order a new clutch kit from TMZ Performance IF the clutch is the problem. Might spring for a forged clutch fork too. But yeah, after this literally everything in the driveline/drivetrain/that physically powers or moves the car, is brand new. Really hope I can drive this thing before the year is out.

Hope all is well with everyone. Merry early Christmas.

Same to you Corey. Santa might have already came here.…😬 there might have been some S2’s in his bag with other goodies.

I love those cams. Good friend of mine in Orlando swapped from S1's to S2's in his 68HTA car and loves them. I'm gonna stick with the BC cams I have now just because they're here, they're brand new, they're installed...but if they give me any sort of issue or if I have to take the timing belt off for any reason in the future GSC S2's are 150% on the list. It's a tie between them, and finding a good set of HKS 272's.

Appreciate it though! I think santa is done with me this year ROFL, maybe a clutch if he's generous. Maybe.

Also: anyone interested in trading my jankily repaired zaklee clear cam cover for your old, but not cracked/broken/busted, OEM Upper timing cover/cam cover? Even if it looks horrendous. I'll paint it anyway. Let me know!

Well you DID go in on the Neat gearset I believe you said. Wish I could right now.

Yeah that wiped me out. It was money for something else but that sh*t can wait. Hopefully he gets enough preorders!

Do you know when the pre-order is up? If it comes down to needing one more at the end I’ll just put it on a credit card to make it go through.

I noticed on their website the gearset is still available just not at the sale price, so hopefully that means it’s still in the works? I admire your enthusiasm and decision to go in on something in a pre production phase to not only hopefully benefit your DSM but hopefully the entire DSM community.:) Cheers:D:rocks:

That's what I'm thinking. Looks to me like they are going ahead with it.
But I haven't seen a word from NEAT on the members only Facebook page for almost 3 days.
The sale was supposed to end at "11:59pm Los Angeles time, 30th of November." Which was about 45 hours ago.
But the order page is still there and you can still put one into your shopping cart, at full price.

Here's something I think is interesting:
The members only FB page had 485 members on November 23, 2023 at 11:40 AM Los Angeles time.
Now it has 691 members. Yikes!

I hope it’s still in the works LOL, even if it goes into production it’s still the same price if not a tad higher than a PPG set however with this gear set you wouldn’t need a loud noisy twin disk and learn to rev match and double clutch your down shifts LOL. It would be the expensive “street” option that would hold the power on the way to cars and coffee LOL

Legit think I found the issue.

I think the clutch isn't engaging because it's an aftermarket slave with a much shorter throw/rod. I can pull the rod almost entirely out on the slave on the car now, and it's still roughly 1" shorter than the OEM one I just got from Jacks.

Pics to show you what I mean. And this is with the rusty slave rod pulled out as far as it would go.

And then there's this asshole.

It's a non-OEM TOB, and it's in terrible shape. If you press against it and spin the bearing, there's an audible noise you can hear. Almost like a grinding sound. I can imagine how it'd sound if you put a crap ton of pressure on it and spun it thousands of RPM faster. It's not smooth and fluid at all.

At this point I'm pretty set on what I'm gonna do. I'm gonna order an OEM TOB and clip from Tim Z, and install the new slave along with the OEM TOB/Clip, and stab the trans back in. That will tell me everything I need to know. That way if it fixes the issue, I'll order the $700 southbend clutch from Tim Z and just break the engine/trans in on this old stocker.

That fork and pivot looks bad to me also. Should not be that loose

I'm gonna order a brand new CC Forged fork along with OEM TOB and clip(and boot for the shift fork, since that's been missing) from TMZ Performance next week when I get paid, and stab the trans and clutch back in. The fork just seems wrong and looser than it should be. I can wiggle the little clip that holds the ball in the fork.

I have a brand new OEM pivot ball I can slap on too.

In case anyone is curious or needs to know, the 1G smaller intake manifold bolts are the same part number as the 1G slave cylinder mounting bolts. Took me forever to find this information. They’re both M8-1.25 x 28mm length. Absolutely no vendor has these bolts listed as the slave cylinder mounting bolts but they are. Part number MF241256. :)

Went back and forth a lot, but ended up deciding to just order all the parts.

Southbend SS pressure plate w/ B-series full face ceramic disk
OEM TOB & clip
Comp Clutch forged shift fork
OEM fork boot

All ordered today. I am excited and nervous at the same time.

Did a little test pass in the granny mobile since it’s cool outside and this thing always rips harder on cold nights.

Actually got a decent launch(had to launch at like 1/4 throttle and then go wot at 20mph. You can hear it in the video. LOL) Dragy said 0-60 in 4.8, or 4.55 w/ 1 foot rollout. Love this damn heavy thing. Not bad for tune only.

My clutch has officially shipped. Wooooooot! Damn I wish we had the dancing banana emoji.

Now just waiting on the fork/TOB/clip/boot. Honestly I am super tempted to order a new flywheel too. This one’s got surface rust and I’m not sure if that makes a difference or if I’m good/it’s fine. We’ll see.

Did you get my PM that I sent a few days ago?

I did just now. Reply sent. :)

You may be able to have the flywheel resurfaced. My machine shop has resurfaced multiple flywheels for me, on a lathe if it's a stepped wheel and on the mill if the friction surface protrudes. You'll want to measure it's thickness/step height first to see if you have enough safe room for material removal. If the rust is very mild you may get away with non-corrosive rust removal chemicals or lightly buffing it with a brass wire wheel.

Just some ideas to save dough. I usually end up dealing with cars that parts aren't easy to obtain (such as Fiero's), and it turns out many flywheels are serviceable.

At the very least, measure the current step height and make sure she's in spec. Surface rust isn't a problem, use some scotch brite or something not too aggressive and inspect the surface.

Woot. This came in from Timmy Tim Timiny aka @twicks69 today. So pretty.

Now I’m just waiting on the TOB, forged fork, and boot (slight delay on those but no biggie). Stuff is so pretty.

Have a few days off and I might use it to clean and paint the trans. Or I might use it to be a lazy POS and do nothing. We’ll see. :p

Ooh I got the same one from south bend n I actually went to te factory twice. The are a hour away from me really cool little place.

How’s the pedal pressure? And how long did it last you? Any quirks?
