Does anyone have any instructions (step by step for DUMMIES) on how to remove the air condition system?

-I never use it anyways. (If it's hot, I'm scared I'll overheat car, if it's cold, I wouldn't dare LOL
-What benifits will I get for removing it?

Thanx,
DeathBeast

It is illegal to vent refrigerant to the atmosphere, you should recover it with approved equipment and container. Now, since the law technically only applies to automotive technicians and certified a/c technicians, you can get away with it.
There are shraeder valves in the high side and low side service ports you can check for pressure at. You must be careful because as refrigerant expands, it will get very cold and could freeze your skin. Take like a screw driver or something and slowly press the valve keeping your hand out of the way in case there is pressure in there.
If there is still refrigerant in there, you then can decide to pay somebody to recover it, or carefully pull off a line and vent it(do not do this in a closed room, r-134a is not poisonous but it does displace oxygen and is heavier than air, so you could potentially suffocate).

That's a great article, and the uninstall is pretty much just following the line of components and taking them out. I drained the refridgerant myself by putting a towel over the valve for it, and pressing the stem with a screwdriver. :shhh:
You can actually take the compressor out of the top of the car. I did, and I think it's much less of a pain than jacking the engine up and removing the mounts, but it's all relative. You just have to unhook the harnesses by the timing belt cover, take off your FPR, unbolt the brake fluid resorvior, and remove anything else that looks like it's in the way, then reach down there and rotate it toward you and pull it up and through. It is still a pain though, trust me.
Also if you want to remove EVERYTHING, you're going to have to take the cooling unit out from under the dash too, which means removing the ABS ECU and unbolting the cover over it. That's easy too, just a pain to work with since it fits in there like a glove. Having the passenger seat out helped. When that's out, you can take the two halves of the casing apart, take out the heat exchanger, and put the plastic casing back in so you still have a duct for your blower. Good luck!

would it be ok if i removed the ac and all its associated components such as the compressor?

also what kinds of gains would this yield :talon:

i think some states require a/c to be installed to pass emissions but other than that if you dont use it its just kinda dead weight sitting in your engine.

i am also interested in this, would i have to pinch any lines? not sure on what the entire system entails, but where lines go into cabin of car, can they be removed?

I am removing the AC on my 94 Talon TSI AWD. I found a good write up on this site for how to remove the complete AC system on a 2G but I am just curious... Is it generally the same idea on a 1G or is there anything different I should know about on the 1G's? Anyone got a link to a good write up?

basically the same thing. remove the lines, condensor and compressor.

Also if the system is still charged, id reccomend going to a local shop to get it sucked out,its illegal to let it drain into the air. Although if you accidently fractured a line...then its an accident ;)

You certainly need to evacuate the system. is this an r12 or r134 system? is there an acumulator or a reciever dryer? anyways yea it shouldnt be too hard. ;)

Once ecavtuated, all you really need to do if find one of the ac lines and follow it. Then unbolt it where ever it connects to something, unbolt what it connected to(either the compressor, condensor, or bolt through the firewall right below your battery). If you just follow the lines you dont even really need directions. Good luck with the removal.

And yea, if you AC line would accidently get loose or break letting that stuff out, don't breath it. Id suggest leaving the area for a little while.

While I had my head off I went ahead and pulled my A/C. Everything together weighed 35lbs, lines, bolts, brackets, compressor, condenser...

I would not want to try pulling the compressor with the intake manifold on the car..

Well I pulled out my AC Compressor WITH the IM in there. Was a pain in da azzz, but It's possible......I'm living proof of it...... :sneaky:

When removing the AC Compressor, is it safe to remove the holding bracket as well? the one that's bolted to the block, or should i leave it in there?

While we're on the topic, can anybody tell me what the bolt directly behind the AC compressor (to the left of the knock sensor) is for? I tore down my engine when I pulled it out and I forgot what it was for.

The A/C bracket is only needed on an AWD model. The Fwd's don't need the spacer it provides.

As far as the bolt, are you talking about the bolt used to check alignment of the rear balance shaft? If the part of the block it is bolted to is machined then that is what it is.

I took the a/c out of my car, WAY easier with the head/ IM off, I have been looking for a little while now for a blank for the space where the a/c contol button goes in the car does anyone know where I might be able to get one?

I actually did this a few days ago to install my FMIC.

Basically, look at the radiator looking thing in front of the real radiator. That is a part of the A/C

What I did is I loosened on of the bolts near the bottom and the stuff sprayed all over. ...
thanks, you are eating our atmosphere.. and i even live like an hr from your house..
