Does anyone have any instructions (step by step for DUMMIES) on how to remove the air condition system?

-I never use it anyways. (If it's hot, I'm scared I'll overheat car, if it's cold, I wouldn't dare LOL
-What benifits will I get for removing it?

Thanx,
DeathBeast

youre supposed to take it to a certified ac specialist, however holding your breath and opening then running out of the room always worked for me.

Ps. A/c rules.

umm why you getting rid of the ac? if you do it you should have it removed professionally cause its illegal to vent it to atmosphere, but if youre gonna do it put it in your drive way hold your breath do it then run in the house. or if you have a painters mask. good luck with that. o btw where in mich you live at?

the 91 uses r12 so id have to assume that its r12, but see if it was converted to r13a, mine was there should be a sticker somewhere by the a/c system.

On a side note damn hes already banned he just signed up. know it alls come post whore and get banned gotta love it, i wish all forums banned useless people.

Heres what I did .. push the car outside and pull both high and low pressure caps off. Wear some thick gloves because this stuff is cold. Push the pin and let it spray until it stops hissing. DON'T BREATHE IT IN. Go to the other line and do the same thing. Then check them both again. ( for some reason mine built a little pressure again ) Once you are all done with hissing push it back in the garage and take it all out.

The "Other" way to do it. Push the car outside ... take some strong cutters and cut the line. Walk away and come back 10 minutes later. Push the car back in .. all done. :shhh:

Its done....ole faithfull has ceased to exist she is out of steam....i just cut the line and ran like a lil bi*** it was so great!! i wish i had someone videotape it.

Eliminator.....sure dude theres acouple dsm's round my place that i chill with. none of them with a modlist like mine but good people and friends none the less. But hit me up your AIM in a PM and we will talk!

Yeh.

Anyway, next time, an AC shop will probably take your refrigerant and run it into their recycler for little or no charge. Particularly if it's R-12.

And you'll have more effect on the plant by re-arranging your living room furniture than the amount of refigerant in your car's AC system will.

I'm wondering what all a whole AC system removal involves for my car. I've looked a lot of places, but no technical manuals will detail how, since it's "dangerous". I realize that, but I don't want to pay a shop 50-100 bucks AFTER they drain the system to undo some bolts that I can do myself.

Anybody have any info? Thanks!

its not dangerous. next off i am not telling you how to get the freon out cuz i have an a/c license. but all i can say is lots of cars the freon leaks out when needing to be fixed. lots of times the shrader valve is bad much like on a tire. hint hint but anyways you should use an evac system to drain the freon and then just unbolt everything and pull it out

He can lose his license for crap like that. That's why he didn't say.

Yeah, the freon evac won't be difficult. What I'm wondering is about the components of the AC system. I'm guessing there is an AC pump, and the condensor in front of the radiator. Will I have to reroute any coolant lines, or does coolant even flow into the condensor?

Thanks for the tip, x camaro :thumb:

I am not putting the AC back in the car with the new engine. As far as I can tell the rear bracket and side tensioner assembly only deals with the AC compressor. Can I remove these without any ill effects????? I am not sure if these brackets are load supporting and are nessesary reguardless of AC use or not. Any input would be great.

I see that the intermeadiate shaft bolts over the lower tab on the rear engine bracket. I'm planning to use a spacer that mimics the thickness of the bracket to keep the int shaft in the correct location.

***this is not the engine going in, just my parts engine***

***for someone who may stumble upon this during a search the thickness of the spacer required is about 0.30"***

I removed my A/C and took out the bracket. And yes the bracket is a spacer for the intermediate shaft but i just bolted it down with one bolt and left the space there. Take it out save some weight

Sounds good. I just wanted to throw it out there and get some thoughts. I did not find anything after a few searches. Thanks for your suggestion. :thumb:

Ok.. With the motor out, everything AC Related from under the hood was cake. All gone.

However, now that I have the Dash out of the car, looking at the AC Components under there, I'm not sure 'what' to remove.

I don't want to lose all environmental systems. I want to keep the blower, and prolly the heating system.

Did DSM produce a model with NO AC? If I take the AC Components out from under the dash, what goes from the blower motor to the rest of the duct work?

Thanks

Dave

Yes, there were dsm's that came w/o ac. There was just a piece of ductwork between the heater box and the blower fan. You can remove the evaporator box and block off the hole where the lines went through and the moistrue drain tube and reinstall it and it will work just the same as buying the oem non ac box... Its how I have mine setup.

You want to remove the box that is to the left of the blower motor box assembly and to the right of the heater box assembly. Its like 4 bolts i belive and a couple push clips.

just remove it all. your not hardcore until you have nothing under the dash :p i'm messing around....basically its all ducting so there would be no point in removing all that junk, unless you dont want air to be blowing or no heater. i thought about ripping it all out when my heater core went but i'm a wuss cause i like heat

Yeah.. If that's not hardcore enough, I guess I'll just have to wuss out. ;-)

I can live with no AC.. I drive with the windows down all the time anyway.

Hey guys, I got my AC belt eliminator on, but now how do I check to see if thiers still gas in the lines? Should thier be a check vaulve right? If thier is still some gas inside of it, what can I do? My car is on jackstands right now. Also what other things do I need to look for when removing my ac and compressor?
