Do not plug thos hose that runs from the fuel tank to the charcoal canister, it is there to vent the excess fumes/pressure. If you cap it you will build up a ton of pressure in your tank.
 
I believe there is no reson to disable any emission items. They will only kill your emissions...(duh, really?)...and it will be time taken for nothing. The CAT is always killed which is ok, gotta have good exhaust. All other emission related objects are not working under full load (WOT). EGR turns off under WOT, etc. Go ahead and kill that CAT but dont waste your time with the others.
If you look enough many people just leave that junk alone unless you want to save serious grams and ounces ;)

there is also something about breathers on valve covers. I heard about some peoples cars where it doesnt really help at all, but I guess it cant hurt too much either
 
what do people do with the line that comes off the valve cover then? i have a hard intake pipe and i dont have a port for it anymore?

You should always research before "upgrading." You can hook up a vented catch can to that AND your PCV, however, now you will not have the circulation you want throughout your crank case, and your engine bay will be coated with oil and dust before long.

Or

Get a MAF so you can have the right air count. You can vent your BOV with this method too.

Or

Put your stock snorkel back on. The pipe gives you irrelevant gains anyway. Hook the line back up with a catchcan (non vented) in between.

Or

Leave it as it is. 95% of people don't care about this kind of "small" problem. But if/when you start tuning, you see problems.

You could run a line from the valve cover nipple down the side of the engine to one of these filters and leave the other end open, maybe by the tranny. It will catch the oil so it doesn't leak all over the engine bay and still be out of the way.

MrBoxxx, you're becoming famous in my book with that picture. :p I should just save it and post it in any future threads like this. Put your signature on it or something so it gives you credit every time I do it.

However, keep in mind if he leaves the other end open, he's still pulling in unmetered air by his PCV.
 
I get it from the vfaq. Shh... don't tell. :shhh: My engine bay is nowhere near that clean, so I don't post the picture I have of my little filter.

As I posted that, I was thinking to myself, "I'm gonna be known here for two things: Check the turbo for shaft play and Put a fuel filter on the valve cover hose.

Edit: Caught the last part of your post just now. Yeah, I realize it would still be pulling in unmetered air, but the same thing would happen with a breather filter, only with more mess in the engine bay. The only fix I can think of is to drill and tap a hole in an intercooler pipe or the intake pipe, put an NPT nipple in it, and route the other end of the hose off the filter into that to keep everything happy.
Wow... that just came to me and it actually sounds like a good idea!!

And just for the record, that's a FRAM G3 fuel filter. Comes with the filter, two 2" sections of fuel line and four spring clamps. On my 2G it went on just like that, on my 1G I moved it down to intake pipe (other end of the line...) because it was hitting the uicp. If there's interest, I can get a picture later.

You do realize that the catalytic converter is the only piece which helps to dilute HCs and COs from your motor? For someone who is telling the guy to keep all of his emission except the cat, you are not making much sense.

I'm going to go do my writeup now to explain.
 
very god writeup. I have 1 question

The only systems i want to remove or relacate are the ones going into intake pipe, pcv and evap. I can remove the charcoal canister and lines all the way back or halfway back to the tank and put a mini breether filter on it away from exhaust right? To moce the pcv i would just use a ventalated catch can, but as you pointed out this brings in unmetered air. So where else can i hook this up to suck in air from? If i do an ic pipe will it damage somethying because it will be under boost. If i do this the valco cover will be pressurized when boosting which i assume will be bad. So where else can i hook it up or what else can i do to move the pcv intake?
 
Essentially, the air being taken in from the PCV intake is just filtered air (large air filter). You can use a mini air filter to filter out the air going into your PCV intake. Just make sure you hide the filter as cops dislike it and call it illegal. None of them will know why but they will ticket you for it.
 
Oh man I sure hope someone here can help me. I guess if I get a positive answer to this question, I won't have to worry about the hard part... easy question first:

My car throws the P0446 code (EVAP, which I think is missing from my car). Will it pass emisions tests? I know the code shows up on the test place's computer - I tried to pass it but the ECU didn't have a chance to run it's own tests (EGT, etc) because i disconnected the battery the day before.

Anyone know if it will pass Texas state inspection with that code showing up?

LICP? That will pressurize the crankcase real fast. :D Like I have mentioned in many other threads, the best route is the stock route with a internal catch can in between the VC and the intake pipe. Simply putting a fuel filter on the breather will result in the following:

1. Pulling in unmetered air whenever you 're in vacuum.

2. Risking a clogged filter leading to extremely undesirable results.

3. Most importantly, there will be no vacuum on the breather whenever you're under boost where ventilation is needed the most.

Considering all the other stuff we do to our DSM's, it really doesn't take all that much effort to do it right, venting the breather to atmosphere, which ever way you do it, is just a short cut to me.
 
I couldn't find anything specifically aimed at what I'm looking at so here it goes.

I am in the process of building my motor right now and I am looking to clean up the engine bay and wiring harness while it is out. I will be running DSMLink and also have a JM Fab SMIM so I am interested in removing all of the emissions I can.

In all of the posts I see involving emissions it's usually people telling them not to and why, but I would appreciate some info on what I can remove without causing any SERIOUS issues. Any sort of pictures or wiring diagrams would be welcome.

I will also keep up with the project and let everyone know how it is going.
 
Cool thats a start. The charcoal canister has already been removed and since I will be running the SMIM the EGR is gone. So I can remove any of the wires and vacuum lines that lead to the systems and things i get rid of right??

And be sure to cap the nipple on the intake pipe where the EVAP canister plugged in. Just incase..

My car already had most of those plugs actually. Anyone know what all i can remove from the firewall or anything like that?
 
removing the solenoids will cause a CEL. but if you have something to counter that (like DSMLink) you can just cancel it. I don't know what all else you can really take off thats emissions related. I'm guessing you already got rid of the cruise control, etc...
