Stock. The S2000 stock stuff is actually quite good but we did manage to turn the rotors all kinds of funny colors and had to replace them at the end of the season.

LoL...I hear you. I know those rotor colours. :D Just giving you some more ideas about what could have caused it with the Hawk pads. But like I said, I only get 2 events maybe out of mine.

Well been spending some tax return money here.

HKS 272 cams
$116 worth of seals and gaskets from JNZ
Supra fuel pump
ARP headstuds
custom eprom chip
91 gsx rear bumper and taillights (cleans up rear bumper since I've got the side exit and will make a better basis for a diffuser should I try to build one)

Of course this is on top of the stuff I still haven't installed yet. Should be a fun month before the first race the first weekend of April :D

Why did you choose a set of 272's and not a 264/272 combo?

Because I found a set for sale with only 8k miles on them for $300 shipped to my door. I was gonna do BC's or FP1's but this deal was too good to pass up. Probably going to pick up a JM Fab street intake mani next month to go along with them.

I just got the same deal, $300 shipped for a set of 264/272's. I am still undecided if I really want to put them in yet or not. My T28 will already be running near the edge of its efficiency range with stock cams. I don't want to make my turbo start throwing flames into my engine.

I'm not too worried with the 18g I'm on. The same general setup worked great for Curt Brown with some changes obviously, but if I can even get close to his results this thing should be a beast.

18g, you should be able to squeeze nearly 400whp out of it with cams, and a good tune (and supporting fuel mods of course). what about turbo lag? aren't you afraid?

I will be hitting a dyno within a month, I am shooting for around 300 awhp on my T28 setup with stock internals (cams, shortblock, ect...).

When AMS did their cam test back in the day they said the spool was about the same on the s16g they were using at the time. 272's only made about 5more hp peak over the 264's but held the hp much much better up top, as much as 10hp gain as the 264's started to fall off up top. With the JM Fab street manifold it should make even more power in the midrange and up top while only loosing 2-300rpm to spool.

As for fuel mods I should be good for this guy.

FIC 650's
260lph Supra pump rewired
SX adjustable regulator
MAFT
Custom eprom chip

I will not sacrifice anything for turbo lag. Even if that means losing 20hp on the top end, I'd rather keep my spoolup 200 rpm’s sooner. Maybe I am still used to my old supercharged cobra where the power was right there as soon as I press the throttle. I HAIT waiting for power.

The way I see it I'm taking 200rpm off the bottom range of my powerband while adding almost 1000rpm to the upper end of it. That means more power under the curve and faster acceleration. Plus as I will be going to a slightly larger turbo down the road these cams will pay off even better at that point as th 264's are really about maxed out on a 16g setup. :thumb:

Your right, your gains up top should more than make up down low, but i have no sympathy for my turbo not giving me instant boost. I wish we could run NOS in SCCA events so my turbo, no mater how big it is, would spool up instantly.

If I end up staying with DSM's after the 2008 season, I'll probably do another stroker motor again with a BB 50 trim turbo of some sort.

Otherwise I'll be going with an EVO. However, I still may keep the DSM as a 2nd car, but not do anything else to it, just leave it like it is.

Sheeet, everybody has an Evo. Why buy that butt-ugly car like everybody else does?

It is much cooler to drive a car that you built yourself and blows the doors off all the rich doctors in their new Evos, STIs, M3s, Corvettes and whatnots.

I ran a 3000GT VR4 for years. I usually had the only one on the track.
Then I ran the Eclipse. I usually had the only one on the track.

So now I have a BMW 332ti, but it's a weird one. It probably will be the only one like it on the track.

I don't think anyone who road races a DSM fits into the "rich doctor" category. We are a bunch of really strange dudes who go against the flow. Even though I now have a BMW, I can't cut loose from this group. I find kindred spirits here. I fit right in with the rest of you lunatics.

So Rich, how much research have you done on engine management and longevity regarding a turbo install on that Panzertracker?

Want me to start digging? ROFL:shhh:

Thanks, but no. A chip and an intake will add a bunch of horsepower, so I might do that. Race tires will cut lap times by a couple of seconds.

The last thing I want to do is mod another car so it requires a trailer, a crew and huge gobs of money to keep going. Been there, done that. That probably rules out a turbo installation.

But ya never know.

love the handling characteristics of an evo. I have driven enough of them to really appreciate them. I also like how there is a bit of DSM in them. I've sorted through the reason's to get one and to not get one, and the only reason to not get an evo or anything else is because many others have them. Evo's are nice cars, and yes everyone (at least it seems like it) has one, but that should not be a reason to not buy something.

who knows, we'll see how this summer pans out. I still am unsure if I want to turn the talon into a trailer queen that never sees the streets. who knows....

Rich, I know what you mean about this place, its weird, even if i went with another evo or whatever, I'd still come on this forum.

Keep it reliable Rich. Lord knows how many times I've dreamed of a Lightning motor swap with a single turbo in my Expedition before I have to slap myself back to reality and remember that it's my daily driver and the Talon is the project car.

In my defense, any turbo kit designed for Rich's krautburner would, by design, be well engineered for a pretty high reliability factor. That sort of kit would also likely be spendy, so not really practical.

The enabler in me just can't help but plant seeds. It's a gift.

Back on topic...

US spec EVO's suck sadly :(. I want my s-ayc on an evo 9!

Hey, another Wisconsin DSM! Will we see you at Road America in April? Crikies, we could have a GATHERING!! Somebody bring a big tent.

As for Evos, my old Eclipse blew their doors off. I was never beaten by an Evo or an STI in my class. Not even close. The ONLY Evo that ever passed me was the 600+ hp AMS Evo. But then, they passed EVERYBODY. If they showed up, they would set FTD by 4-5 seconds and humiliate ALL the rich doctors.

TalonTSIdriver is correct: stock Evos suck on the track. You gotta spend about as much money on gofast parts as you would for a DSM to make an Evo run with the big dogs. And then, what you wind up with is a butt-ugly car that may or may not outrun a similarly-equipped DSM at two or three times the cost.

Than what is the big hype about evo's than?

Stock evo's will run circles around a stock (or near stock) DSM. I would really not mind having an evo for a Daily Driver. 4-doors, fun when you want, but with the rear wing off, its just your average 4-door family sedan.

If you do get an evo, I think I will keep the talon, or at least have a DSM as a project/race car.

Morpherex, yes the Active Yaw Control would be cool on a IX, I really the X's, talk about ugly cars. But let’s not even go there, we'll go way off thread.

As for the gathering at RA, I'm game. I will probably be there Sunday, I am not so sure I'll be able to make it to the Saturday event. We'll see how business is when the time gets closer.

So, I finished up with the crank scraper/Moroso oil pan installation. Installed the new Fidanza aluminum flywheel and mated up my stage 3 shep trans. Replaced all my fluids and fired it up for the first time in 5 months. While standing outside the drivers side door checking out my gauges, a FRIGGIN MOUSE jumps out from under the steering column! Not knowing how long it's been there or what kind of damage has been done I go straight to the hardware store. I loaded 3 traps with peanut butter and started an unanticipated winter project. I checked the traps religiously every 3 hours and found nothing. This morning, nothing. So, I start looking around further and I find that in my glovebox, the little bastard made a nest in my brand new Sparco driving gloves. Shining a flashlight around I finally located not one, but two mice inside the defroster opening in the dashboard. I re-baited the traps with cheese and voila...one hour later. If there are more than two, perhaps I can rig up some kinda wheel setup for a little extra power.

How he got out, I have no idea.

Gah that sucks. Little boogers can get just about anywhere.
