Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

I really hate to say this but, if you're looking into modifying a DSM and you're saying an Evo III 16g is too much money. I'd probably back off from racing until you get some more money, pay off some bills, or get promoted/a different job.

From my own experience, this is not a cheap car to race and daily drive at the same time unless you've got some deep pockets. Plus, I'd be more worried about my fuel system and making sure my engine, suspension, and drivetrain can handle the extra power before I throw more boost into it. On topic though, you can stress a 14b into the 12s, a 16g would be a lot easier, I personally wouldn't go any larger then that unless you have future plans for an engine and fuel system build.

Don't forget that nitrous is always an option as well. It's really not as dangerous as a lot of people think it is, got me a 12.0 slip pretty easy in a car that ran a 13.4 without it. It will decrease lag time, cool down intake temps, and give you some sweet torque gains.

I have a Slowboy Racing G50 I'm trying to get rid of. It says on their website that several people have gone into the 11s with it and it's capable of 400+ horsepower.

The evo3 can put a 2G GSX in the 12's. My concern is that you think it is an expensive upgrade. If spending $600 on a turbo is a huge expenditure for you then I don't think you should be trying to run 12's at all. When you race cars they break and when your transmission goes $600 will seem like nothing compared to a proper rebuild.

With that said I love my Big 16G. It makes my car a great quick daily driver that gets 23 mpg and puts down almost 300 AWHP on crap 91 pump gas. And I'm just a bit of goo driving away form a high 12 on 91 octane. I'm sure if I put in race gas and got tuned for it the 12 would have happened long ago.

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction.
I have a T3 tb0321 with a .48 hot and .48 cold sides. I know the sizes of compressor wheel wont get me over 250hp or so. I will have quick spool-up but I want have the power i want.

Doesn't anyone know which wheel and housing would be great for 400hp with a t3 body?
the t3/t4 , with a 50trim or something
or if a 60trim wheel and housing will do the job and not have to go t3/t4 hybrid. Also does anyone know where I can get wheels and housings besides ebay. I looked on google and couldn't find anything.WTF

Hi, I keep hearing that the t44 or the t4 OEM turbo is running at its max as it is and I was wondering which turbo would suite me and I would also like to get more information on how a turbo works and info on the specific turbo I should buy. I do want to go to the local track and race my car once and awhile so i'd like some noticable HP gain but I dont want a 1000 dollar turbo also where can you find the tech fourm on puttting a certaint type of turbo in. I looked at this guide and found two differnt types of turbos I am new to turbos and would like to no more I was a super Charger man my self :sneaky:

Tech Guide: 2G 4G63t Upgrades: Stage 1 Power - DSMtuners

my friend it's the age old question on this board. There are so many factors!

What kind of power are you looking for? Do you have the mods to support a big turbo? What kind of driving/racing will the car be used for? Stock 2.0 or going stroker later? etc......

If you want to shoot the shit about turbos and an upgrade path feel free to contact me.

I just want something thats going to run11& 12. at the track and is going to give me more power than ill ever use that is in the 600.00 to 950.00 range Includng a nessasary hardware and pipes also it has to be easy(er) to install considering I have no place to work besides my drive way.

If you want to run 12s or 11s you better think about spending alot more money. Simply adding a bigger turbo doesnt mean anything without the proper supporting mods. According to you profile you have a BOV and downpipe. You should worry about getting all the bolts on before you even get a bigger turbo (full exhaust, fuel injectors, FMIC, fuel pump, A/F controller, and intake). Also, since you want 11's and are FWD you better invest in some slicks/drag radials too.

As for the turbo suggestion after you get all the supporting mods. I would looking into a 50-Trim or FP Green.

I was just wondering which one so I can study it better so that when I am ready to buy one I know exactly which one I want and i have throughrly researched it then I can just go and get it. I have alot of work to do and need help answering a plethera of questions about my 99 gst so let me no if you want to get on the phone or if you want to help me thanks!

Any 16g is what you want. The evo3 16g flows the most bu spools noticably slower than the sal 1g which spools the fastest. All (the small 16, big 16g, evo3 16g) flows enough for your goal. You will need a 14b/16g instal kit. Many vendors have this in stock.

Otherwise a Holset hx35 or Borg-Warner s258 will flow the most per dollar invested an spool the fastest than any other turbo in their flow range.

X2 !!!.
Leaning more towards HX35.

I agree with prostreet, and another thing just bolting up a big turbo wont make you run 12's you need all the supporting mods to fulfill your goal. So take that into consideration when choosing your turbo.

Another question, not really my post, so I shouldn't be posting it here I think..
I have a 16g turbo, its TD05H.. was wondering if its a big16g or a small.. I'm guessing a small, just cause its not very big at all..

Forced Performance 18G
Will be Plenty for you with Full supporting mods.

As soon as I saw this thread I thought the same thing. You will need transmission and built bottom end later on though. ECU fuel blah blah blah......If you can step this turbo up to an 8cm2 housing and external gate. This would EASILY give you 400 HP with NO strain anywhere. If I had the money right now this is what I would order tomorrow.

Nope. The stock bottem end can handle 400whp fine. The stock transmission can handle 40whp fine.

For the level of performance from an 18g, I'd still get a higher flowing bolt-on turbo that spools faster and costs quite a bit less: hx35 or h1c in a bep housing. My td05h 18g spooled slower than my h1c. It likes high boost and loves pump gas way better than the "pumpgas king" 50-trim.

Or if you want under 400whp the 16g is for you. But still not as cheap as a holset. All you need to bolt on a $200 h1c or $300 hx35 is a small bep housing, an elbow and coupler, 4" intake, a dent in your water pipe and an adapter fitting for your oil inlet line. You already have a drain line that will match and the proper location to feed oil to the turbo. You need an install kit for the 16g that will cost more than the above neccesary parts. My h1c spools as fast as my small 16g. And flows 4lbs/min more everywhere in the rev range at the same boost.

Everyone keeps saying I shouldnt worry about the turbo until I have the supporting mods to go with it I KNOW This! LOL i just want to read up on the recomended turbos so thaqt when that special night comes when i have that 1000g's I can just go n pick it up!:rocks:
sO i AM RESEARCHING ;)
