Which turbo will be sufficient for consistent 11 second times? I've recently decided on a big 16g, but will that be big enough to run 11s with supporting mods and decent tuning? Remember, this is for a budget street car, so any one purchase over $1k is tough. A big 16g will run about $700-900, which is about $300-400 less than the larger alternatives.

Of course, I'll need lots of practice to run these times, but, I just want to make sure that it's possible before the money is spent.

not sure tryied a boost check and it wouldnt pressure up sounded like it was coming out the exhaust so i figured better just take it to the garage a knew they had a guy there that installs after market turbos .........so i was hoping he would find it before i started changing parts

with that many miles on your car ,your wastegate on the turbo charger might be cracked wide open like mine was ,causing it to sound like it,s going out the exhaust ,as for the black smoke it could be your mass air ,your egr valve ,or lone behold a boost leak ,which is very common.

well he finally got the part put it on and still didnt run right but he said it cleared the codes and said he put the trans fuse in and the computer started smoking .....i cant find a trans fuse he also said it was the trans computer not the main computer i cant find it LOL its a 92 and i dont think they have seperate ecu but they also said the torque converter is locked in im not to sure if they know they said the trans ecu was 900.00 thats when i had it towed out im trying to get a hold of nate in morgantown wv and have him look at it

your a/t computer can be found down below the stero ,just pull the carpet back and there it is .I still have mine from my 91 laser ,I changed my car over to manual

Holy run-on sentence, Batman!:beatentodeath:

you better find out if the 91 laser rs turbo fwd is going to be the same ,ecu # is md750093 ,it has been laying around for about 2 years ,my car lost the overdrive from the trany .you know there is your engine ecu and the a/t ecu . as for how much I don,t know ,throw me and offer.

Whats up everyone i have a very simple question to ask. I want to know what turbo i should go with for my 95 tsi awd? It is a daily driver with the following done to the motor:
Lower End:
-J.E. Pistons
-Scat H-Beam Rods
-CP Gas Nitrated Piston Rings
-King Performance Bearings
-Modified Thrust .395 Wide
-Entire Block was Balanced and Blueprinted
-Performance 3G Lifters (no lifter tick)
-The Balance Shafts Removed
-All other components used in rebuild are brand new O.E.M. parts.
Head:
-Crower Stage 1 Street Cams
-Cometic Steel Head Gasket
-ARP Head Studs
Transmission:
-Act 2100 Clutch
-Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel
Fuel:
-Walbro 255 lph Hi-Flow Fuel Pump (High Pressure)
-Fuel Pump Rewire Kit
Exhaust:
-Turbonetics External Wastegate
-Custom O2 Housing
General Engine:
-Aluminum Air Intake
-Upper Intercooler Pipes
-Greddy Type-S Blow Off Valve
-K&N Filter
Electrical:
-Greddy Profec B Boost Controller
-Greddy Turbo Timer
-Greddy White Faced Gauges (EGT/Boost/AFR)

Now i know what your thinking a fully built motor and the stock turbo still? I was waiting on that untill the motor was built. Any logical suggestions would be very appreciated. Looking for a fast daily driver or on occasion a track car. Thanks:thumb:

Big 16G would be well suited for a good track car and givin the build up no problem flowing full boost at around 20lbs or so.......Should be a good well matched setup, I would go external dump though so plan on that when purchasing, Its just better IMO these turbos tend to creep
if not properly ported/clipped.

Well with that kind of motor you do have some potential. But I don't see listed an AFPR or Larger injectors or anything to tune with. I would say get some larger injectors, an AFPR, dsmlink, skip the 16g and go with the larger TDO6SL 18g or 20g. Both are great on the street. :thumb:

I was thinking about looking into some larger injectors. Any suggestions on those? LOL i know i know i just want to get things right as this is my daily driver and i cant afford to have it in the shop.

That question is full of variables. Like, on stock injectors? 16g, 18g, 20g? Boost pressure? AFPR to tame your WALBRO 255?

It's not the problem of having an AFC or not it's about having the proper amount of fuel going into the engine to support the larger flowing turbo that you are putting on it.

Then any time you put larger injectors in your stock ecu still thinks they are 450's. Hell, it doesn't know any better. Hence your 650's are open the same amount of time that your 450's were. Therefore you are going to run rich. Therefore if you lie to the computer about how much airflow is coming into the engine (less airflow) it will effectively counter act the larger injectors. Most people call this Compensating for larger injectors. Now the problem with just an AFC is that your timing will be affected by this. Since the ecu now sees less airflow it will increase your timing and your engine will produce knock. That's where the eprom chip comes into play. Key diver makes one that you can specify what you want the max timing to be, injector compensation, stutterbox, NLTS. And more. You will still want an AFC to be able to fine tune your setup as their tune will NOT be perfect.

Hope this helps.

I definetly agree with 4Motion4G63, a 16g platform is a great street turbo and also great for the track. I am more partial to the smaller sized turbos rather than the big turbos but it is all prefrence and what your car can handle.

Forced Performance Turbochargers: DSM FP Sleeper 16G Turbocharger

I would definetly go with a FP turbo. I love the turbo listed above, FP Sleeper 16g.

I also recommend that you invest into DSMLink and a wideband for tuning instead of a SAFC. You can only do so much with the AFC and can get really precise with DSMLink. I personally have a FP Big 16g with an internal wastegate and do not have any boost creap problems. I would try and stay with an interal gate but if you really want to go to an external wastegate, Tial is by far the best to go with.

You should have saved your self some trouble and had a 6Bolt conversion done. id never in a million years put that into a 7Bolt but in your case i would say just go 20G and get it over with

Why, 7 bolts are just as capable to making power as 6 bolts are as long as the engine is built properly he should have no problems with it.
